20lbs lighter by Christmas Day, anyone?

notagiraffe · 21/10/2013 14:18

Hi
Got weighed at weekend in one of those places where you can't shift your toes around on the scale to lose half a stone. Bit of a shock. Does anyone want to join me to be 20lb lighter by Christmas?

That's only 2lb a week. We can do it.

Height: 5'4"
Start weight on 21st October: 159lb
Goal Weight on Christmas Day: 139lb

Food Plan: no sugar or processed foods, lots of water, lots of veg and lean protein. Alcohol free on weekdays

Exercise Plan: Daily Shred plus what I already do (fitness class and walks)

Anyone want to join in and add plans, tips, motivators, anything at all to get us there by Christmas Day?

Ginger tea is quite nice - not sweet but gives you a boost of another kind.

sweetheart · 22/10/2013 16:18

Can I ask why so many of you are giving up the fizzy? I have to admit it is my crutch when I'm on a diet - I use it to fill me up and smother cravings for sweet things (which I realise is not really ideal!)

CressidaMontgomery · 22/10/2013 16:47

Fizz is not good for you. It stimulates appetite for a start and is full of all sorts of shit. Mind you it's bloody nice Grin I limit myself to a can a day and sometimes none at all.

Ill have a look at Paleo Giraffe. Thanks. At the moment I keep my weight steady during the week ( between 136 and 139 lbs ) and then comes the weekend and I go berserk and eat eat eat. This weekend just gone I ate three large chocolate bars, pasta, bread, chocolate pudding , ice cream and on and on. I then spend the week being 'good' and the carb bloat goes and I'm 9 stone something again and then ... Oh look it's the weekend! I just can't seem to limit myself at all. I shall make a concerted effort this weekend!

I agree - this last half a stone is tricky and I KNOW I feel a little better just a few lbs lighter so hopefully this thread will spur me on.

I'm a compulsive daily weighed too. Anyone else?

sweetheart · 22/10/2013 16:57

yes I get on the scales every morning it's a habit I just can't break :-(

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 22/10/2013 17:00

I'm not giving up diet coke for weight reasons. I'm doing it because

  1. I get awful tension headaches and migraines and I'm starting to wonder if the coke addiction is causing them.

  2. They are full of shit. Grin

I'm not saying I'll never have another can of coke again but I can easily drink 2 litres a day.Sad Blush

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 22/10/2013 17:01

Thanks for the ginger tea suggestion Molly.

Cataline · 22/10/2013 17:40

Can I join please? According to my BMI, I am officially obese Blush
I'm a skinny person trapped in a hideous fat body which is all of my own lazy, greedy doing. It's horrid.
I'm going back to SW this evening and will try and go every week. I'm a vegetarian and have been meaning to go vegan for a long time and I think I might be ready to make that leap. I think that's going to help me massively because i'll have to think very carefully about everything I eat now rather than filling up on cheese and chocolate
I use Pinterest to gather inspiring healthy recipes and have spent quite a while on there today searching for vegan delights Grin
I'm also disgustingly lazy- I have gym membership which includes all classes and use of pools across 5 sites and I've been once in the past year. Blush I definitely need to get my arse in gear!!!

lade · 22/10/2013 18:43

Another joiner please!?!

I'm 5'4, weigh about 11 stone and want to lose a stone. I'm the heaviest I've ever been, and that includes most of my two pregnancies.

I've found I've got a very busy lifestyle running around after my two daughters, don't have time to eat properly, and so end up eating crap, on the school run at about 3pm.

So my plan is to eat set meals, reduce the snacking, limit alcohol to the weekends and try to exercise a bit more.

I want to lose between 1 and 2lbs a week.

lade · 22/10/2013 18:45

Does anyone use any apps for tracking their foods?

After DC, I used weight watchers, and that worked well for me, but I don't want to have to pay for it, so a free version would be good Grin

sweetheart · 22/10/2013 19:30

Lade, you can use my fitness pal for tracing calories. When you set it up it will ask you a series of questions and then calculate how many calories you should have to meet your goal weight loss.

NaturalBloodsuckerYeahRight · 22/10/2013 19:59

I bought an excercise bike today for the rainy winter afternoons. Honestly, it was so exhausting to carry in and bloody put together that I needed a lie down Grin
Good low carb day here.

CrystalDeCanter · 22/10/2013 20:18

Hi everyone, it's 5.30am here in Australia, dh just gone out on a pre work bike ride, he is fitness loon.

Notagiaffe and thedietstartstomorrow thanks for the concern. I think 2 days fasting is ok, I'll check the 5:2 thread again though, it fits in with work if I fast mon and tue, I find it really hard to fast at home.

Today a normal day, no snacks, healthy foods only, no booze and portion control are my rules.

notagiraffe · 22/10/2013 20:20

Welcome everyone who joined today.

Lade can you have a banana and a long glass of water before school run? That is a killer time of day to want to scarf down loads of snacks.

Weigh ins are on Monday btw. I know someone suggested Friday for very good reasons, Grin but as it's only 10 weeks, we want to stay on track at weekends too.

Food diary today:
Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled in a bit of semi skimmed milk
coffee

Lunch: home made clear veg soup
1/2 avocado
1 pear

Tea: home made risotto (with not much rice) with leeks, chicken, butternut squash, baby broad beans.

low fat crème caramel

Apple juice and sparkling water mix
Water x 3 glasses
Tea x3

Exercise: 1 hour jogging up and down hills. According to MFP that burned up nearly 400 cals in just one hour! On MFP they take off exercise cals so you can eat more on exercise days. (Like crème caramel ahem.) Interested to know if you still lose the weight.

Breakfast - activia prune youghurt

Lunch - 3 satsumas and some grapes

Dinner - home made vegetable soup , wholemeal bread and a scrape of butter .

Black coffee and tap water to drink .

According to MFP that's 609 calories , which I know isn't enough , but I'm going to a food conference tomorrow , starting with registration and followed by coffee and cakes .

I'm doomed !

sweetheart · 22/10/2013 21:10

Sugar snap pees with lf hummus

Celery with peanut butter

Soup & 2 slices seeded whole meal bread

Loads of water
A couple of glasses of diet fizzy

voscar · 22/10/2013 21:12

Diet - started last week on the marine commando diet which I will do for two weeks to kick start everything then I will carry on with low carb/low fat.

My baby is 15 months and I really have no excuse for not fitting my clothes anymore or all the horrible wobbles!

preppy1777 · 22/10/2013 21:24

Protein and veg Is great I've done this for 6 weeks and lost 10lb already.

Current 150 lb. and would like to get to 131 by christmas. Good luck everyone.

bishboschone · 22/10/2013 22:07

Can I join in? I'm around 150 pounds and 5 ft 1 .. Ooh dear.. I was 125 pounds in May but my dad died and I lost the eating plot.. I'm doing weight watchers at home and I'm finding it pretty easy , just hope it works !

pinkapples · 22/10/2013 22:12

I'll join to if you'll have me what a fab idea for a thread!

I'm 5'2 maybe 5'1 not sure and weight 12stone 8 as off half an hour ago I know not to weigh at night but was curious

Goal is 9 stone Grin maybe not by Christmas but eventually my first baby is now 4.5 months so it's time I cracked on

What am I doing- well eating a lot of biscuits! That's what got me here in the first place! No seriously... Think ill do 5:2 with Atkins (I have pcos and Atkins has worked in the past) I go the gym 3/4 times a week if I can and walk the dogs occasionally when hubby is working low carb lots of salad and I'll try for water although it may be cordial x

notagiraffe · 22/10/2013 22:22

There are some nice tasting sugar free cordials out there - summer fruits (Robinsons?) is good.

Sorry about your dad bischbosch. It's tough when it's emotional comfort eating to hide grief. But you'll feel so much better with the weight gone.

OP posts:
bishboschone · 22/10/2013 22:32

Thanks , I have had to buy new clothes and it's very annoying . I actually thought I wasn't eating but must have been eating rubbish .. It went on soooo quick !! Like I blinked and I was fat , I guess that's the fog of grief !

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 22/10/2013 22:33

Oh crap I'm hungry and it's bed time. Pint of water?

CrystalDeCanter · 23/10/2013 02:48

Pete I was starving last night (lunchtime Weds here now) and had a small banana or I wouldn't have slept.

bish so sorry about your dad, good to be taking care of yourself now. I totally get what you mean about the weight going on suddenly, it's so depressingly easy to pack it on.

I know I shouldn't have but I weighed myself this morning and have gone down an astonishing 2:2kg from Sunday night. I know this isn't proper weight loss but am stoked all the same.

Mollydoggerson · 23/10/2013 09:05

CrystalDeCanter that is amazing 2.2 kg is about 5 lbs I believe! Wow.

Bishboschone I'm very sorry for your loss, it is still early days xx.

I also lost my Dad, it's been ten months and I lost weight after he died, it seemed like adrenalin was pumping through my body and forcing me to lose weight without me really doing anything. The weight crept back on though. I am taking control now!

Does anyone watch 'Obese - a year to save my life'? Jessie Pavleka gave a selfdoubting girl some mantra's to keep her going. I wrote them down:

*Food is for nourishing my body and mind.

*I will love myself and appreciate all the good things in my life.

  • I will exercise to get out of my mind and into my body.

*No more playing the victime, no more blame, no more guilt.

*Look what I am able to do!

*I am feeling good today!

  • I love myself today!

  • Today is going to be an amazing day!

God I love Americans they are so positive! lol xx Smile

PS. Food Diary for Tuesday.
Breakfast - small bowl of fruit and fibre (30g) and semi skimmed milk.
Lunch - chicken and bacon vol au vont, green beans and some chips (all small portions).
Tea - egg sandwhich - 2 eggs, 2 slices of bread, spread and 1 spoon mayo.
Snacks - handful of walnuts and 2 small apples.
1 litre of water plus 1 litre of other drinks (cups of water/tea/coffee - no fizzy).

Is this too much?

mydadsdaughter · 23/10/2013 09:37

Ok day two and I'm already thinking about digestive biscuits, I'm off out to walk dog to take my mind off it !!
