Welcome to thread 13 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

1. Eat what you WANT
2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those Christmas outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2013 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for Christmas and The New Year!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we wont be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process :) so get stuck in :)

I have his Emotional Eating cd which I have had for a couple of years.....wonder if it's the same as the book.? Smile

Jellybeans456 · 04/01/2014 16:07

Smile Smile hi all. I've cancelled the New PM book, as I've also got the emotional eating part on CO. Got my cheap copy of Geneen Roth ' book on compulsive eating, and so far enjoying reading that. cost me £2.50 on ebay.

I am working towards only eating when hungry, and today just had a coffee this morning, then a kids size meal of ham, egg and chips for lunch at 12.30 by which time I felt slightly hungry. not ravenous, but hungry enough to really enjoy my meal. I am in the habit of eating slowly and aware of every mouthful. This afternoon I had a galaxy hot choc, although not hungry but wanted a sweet treat.

its 4 PM but no hunger yet. migraine finally subsided by use of migraleve, so feeling good now.Wink Grin

Jellybeans456 · 04/01/2014 16:17

ps Milly - I'm not fasting.

no Good- that's handy knowing when you normally want to it, as that more or less tallies with mine. I am gradually doing away with the breakfasts. I will be honest and admit I've had some when I wasn't hungry, but on the whole those days are becoming less. The structured breakfast times are a habit that I am breaking. on my mobile at the mo, and have found I can do all the smileysGrin Grin Thanks Thanks

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 04/01/2014 16:49

Sounds like you're having a good day Jelly Grin. This WOE is all about breaking those destructive food habits and it sounds like you're making progress with yours. We also went out to lunch and i found myself ordering a child's meal as hate paying for food then not eating half of it Grin but still ended up leaving a third. It came with a delicious sundae too which I only had 2 mouthfuls of, didn't even think twice about stopping either which is a first for me!

ItsIgginningToLookALotLikeXmas · 04/01/2014 17:46

That's really good when a child's meal starts to fill you up! I ate half of my scone and out the other half out of sight and I forgot I hadn't had a whole one, iyswim. Did eat a pizza but one of the "light" ones with salad in the middle. It was lovely. Probably chatting too much to eat completely mindfully, but better than doing that with a whole pizza! It is hard to switch off the diet, "being good" mentality.
I always eat breakfast, but if I didn't on a work day it would be a long time before I would have the chance to eat again, can't eat at work except break/lunch really.

Jellybeans456 · 04/01/2014 20:34

Just thinking Itsigg that it must be quite hard to follow this woe when you've got structured breaks at work for meals. What if you're not hungry when it's a break?, also what if you're hungry and you can't have a break?

I've been thinking what would I do in this position? And would probably bring food in with me that I could eat on the go, that's if you were able to depending on your job?

Maybe bananas, satsumas, nuts and raisins, oatcakes? Not great really though is it? As you would'nt be able to eat a balanced meal?

What would others do? :)

Jellybeans456 · 04/01/2014 20:45

Just had to quote this extract from the book I am reading:

' After a few years, my body reached a weight that it and I are now comfortable with. Food became a source of physical nourishment and lost its appeal when I wasn't hungry. Although occasionally I feel the desire to eat compulsively - and do - I am acutely aware that what I am wanting is not food.'

This to me explains my difficulties with this woe. It took the author a few years to get to the point I am aiming for and It would be unrealistic of me to expect to be at that point now.

MillyRules · 05/01/2014 00:47

I don't think it is difficult Jelly because when you are eating at set times then you would be very very hungry when it came time to eat. If you were picking at bits and pieces as and when you felt a bit peckish then you would not feel the hunger that you are aiming to feel. When you were fasting the other week you said that you actually felt hunger and knew what it was. Eating little and often takes away that desire for food. If however you fancied nuts raisins and oatcakes when you have your meal then that is fine if it is what was wanted and its pretty balanced as you have protein, good carbs and some dried fruit.

Solo · 05/01/2014 00:55

Jelly :) sounding better!

FWIW, it didn't take me long to get into the PMK WOE. I was though, listening to the cd each night and listening to the others now and again.

I think using a smaller plate can make a huge difference.

Also, I have a little bit of OCD and eat my food in a certain way. Say I've got chicken, roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips and cabbage on my plate. I'm most likely under 'normal' circumstances to eat it in this order: chicken, cabbage, carrots, parsnips and roast potatoes. Now if I PM my meal, I'd eat it like this: roast potatoes, parsnips, chicken, carrots, cabbage. This is because prior to PM, I'd eat my least favourite food first and save the best for last, but with PM, I eat the favourite first and that way, if I have had enough after say half the meal, I've already eaten the 'nicer' more favourite foods, so am not tempted to carry on to get to my favs.

OP posts:
MillyRules · 05/01/2014 02:39

Solo do you also tend to eat in alphabetical order lol Grin

Solo · 05/01/2014 03:20

No. Why? It's just that when I'm not PMKing, I eat my fav's last to have the nicest taste at the end like a reward. But doing PMK, I eat favs first to ensure I get them in case I'm full up before I get to the end of my dinner.

OP posts:
Solo · 05/01/2014 03:22

Oh and I also eat all of the pots, then all of the chicken etc.

OP posts:
NoGoodAtWittyNames · 05/01/2014 08:43

I'm with you there Solo! It's much easier to leave the limp vegetables than a delicious roasty Grin

Jellybeans456 · 05/01/2014 09:55

Solo- I find I now eat this way too. All my favourite foods first, and the rest last so that if I get full, I'm also satisfied that I've eaten what I wanted.

and I always eat on small plates now.

ALittleFaith · 05/01/2014 11:47

Hello all. I fell off the thread Blush I weighed myself for the first time in about a month today to see how I faired after Christmas. Only a 2lb gain but almost at my heaviest ever. Time to refocus. I'm planning a shopping list of yummy food. Back to work tomorrow!

I do shifts with allocated break times. I'm so busy on my feet I'm always hungry when my break comes!

Solo · 05/01/2014 13:26

Non judgey, just curious question. Do any of you cook from scratch? Bake? etc.

I cook from scratch, but I do tend to buy all the cake/biscuity things for the Dc's packed lunches, which invariably I also end up scoffing eating.

I want to start baking again. I want to eat less crap, less mass produced rubbish.

I have a lot to do at home over the next few months, but as soon as I can, I'm going to don the apron and get the oven going.

OP posts:
MillyRules · 05/01/2014 13:56

I cook completely from scratch Solo. No jars or ready meals etc. Always have. Used to puree our meals to make baby food. Currys, sauces etc make myself. Other than Heinz baked beans of course. I'm a big foodie too.

MillyRules · 05/01/2014 14:00

Solo when I asked about alphabetical order it was because you mentioned the OCD and listed your order of eating alphabetically....so seemed that way.

MillyRules · 05/01/2014 14:02

I however am weird and love vegetables so eat my cabbage, carots, parsnips, butternut squash, peas, cauliflower and broccoli first then meat and don't often have potato.

MillyRules · 05/01/2014 15:28

Hi Faith that's really good only two pounds considering it was Christmas!!! You will soon get back into it and it will start falling off again. Smile

Solo · 06/01/2014 00:50

Sorry HALF, I meant to say hello to you and posted without! as Rules says, it's only two pounds which is only 32 OZ so not much at all! :) and are you back on the wagon with the rest of us? we need your support too!:)

Rules, I do have OCD tendencies, but no, I didn't deliberately list in alphabetical order, nor do I eat in alphabetical order I don't think, must check

Today I overate, but I still left a lot on my plate. Sadly it was the broccoli and cauliflower which I love, but was too full up to finish it...so I certainly left more than one mouthful on my plate! actually, everyone left food today, so will cook less in future.
Are we all doing that part of the woe? leaving at least a mouthful?

Morning all! Freedom from emotional eating has arrived v v v excited Grin. Would love to dive in but DC are being especially trying and at work every night now til Saturday so probably won't get to read it properly until then. But had a quick flick through and think this may be the solution to my eating problems! Will post a full review once I've properly read it, but in the meantime hope everyone's well and in the zone Smile

Solo · 07/01/2014 00:12

Excellent NoGood :)

I've not been too bad today mostly.

BrandNewIggi · 07/01/2014 07:01

Weighed myself this morning and am about 14 and 3/4 stone Sad almost a stone over what I was last time I dared stand on scales, in around October I think. No wonder my clothes feel tight!

Hoping next month I can post something more positive!
(Have lost my Xmas name btw)

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 07/01/2014 09:10

BrandNew you can and you will do it, I'm sure of it!

Well done Solo you'll soon be back on track.

I had a rubbish day yesterday, managed to sneak in chapter 1 of FFEE whilst the DC were playing, in which he talks about identifying the triggers behind emotional eating and looking at what started this destructive habit in the first place. This brought back a lot of forgotten memories and left me feeling vulnerable and scared which then triggered a full on binge Blush. But then managed to read 2 more chapters before going to bed and did the havening technique and feeling a lot more positive today. Think this process will unearth a lot of uncomfortable memories, things I'd blocked out, but PM promises by the end you'll be a better person and I must admit whilst I'm still sceptical I'm starting to believe him. If nothing else think this process will be extremely cathartic, just wish I'd left starting the book until I could read it in full as slightly in limbo now and probably won't get to read anymore until tonight (another lesson learnt!)
