The 'Avoid The Quiche' Quiche- Part 2!!!

HenriettaPye · 26/08/2013 19:53

Hi all!! (waves!)

Cant believe our last thread filled up so quickly!

For those of you who don't know us, the 'Avoid the Quiche' Quiche is a group of people who all want to lose a substantial amount of weight (no coming on here complaining about the half a stone you desperately need to lose, thanks very much!) We all have different personal goals and reasons for wanting to lose weight, whether it be for a special holiday coming up, to aid fertility or to be healthier. This thread is a place to share your highs and lows, talk to like minded people, get encouragement and offer support to others when they need it!

Official weigh in day is Wednesday- Slimmer of the week will get a virtual bunch of flowers, woohoo!! Flowers

I personally am aiming to lose 6 stone. It wont be easy but i've got a great bunch of ladies behind me keeping me focused and for that i'm very grateful! Smile

MissElodie how awful :( Tbh I would just try and put her opinion on it out of your mind. I've been there with my mother and my weight and she has said some pretty hurtful things to me in the past - the irony being that I was actually relatively slim when she said them (size 14 - and an old size 14 at that) and the hurt made me end up eating more just to show her that I didn't care.
If you are dependant on her saying something nice, then she will only let you down again. You are doing this for you, and your DC, and no-one else.

LayMizz - maybe your body needs a shock? It could have got used to functioning on exactly the same calories every day and be in a bit of a rut? My WW leader years ago used to recommend that people who got a bit stuck like that had a day or two of eating a maintaining amount rather than a losing amount to jolt their metabolism. Not loads of junk, but just extra calories of real, good food for a couple of days and then back to what they were doing before?

clarinetV2 · 18/09/2013 16:56

MissElodie I don't wonder you're feeling shit. Is there anything nice you can do to take your mind off your mum's comments? I do wonder whether she has her own issues (not necessarily with food or weight) that she's displacing by getting at you - without wanting to psychologise too much, I can't help wondering whether she feels inadequate as a mother and this is her way of showing it. As someone with adult daughters I simply can't imagine wanting to deliberately hurt or undermine them, and I certainly couldn't bring myself to say or do anything that I knew in advance would make them sad. They are the most precious people in the world to me, and I'm sure most mothers would say the same - which makes me think your mother must have something else going on to make her act this way. Whatever, it does sound like it's her problem not yours, and if you can find a way to remind yourself of that, maybe it will hurt less? Though I know that's much easier said than done. And rant away, that's one of the things this thread is for, and I'm sure we all understand. Big hugs to you.

FWIW I think you're doing really well, LayMizz. I think the more you have to lose, the more courage is needed to take the first step, and then the second, and then keep going. Last night when I was trying not to self-sab any more, I read through both threads, and one of the things that really inspired me was the bits of your story you shared, and how you kept going and came back in the face of disappointment. It was one of the things that helped me get through the evening without any more trips to the shops for a high-sugar high-fat fix. I think you've done fantastically to get where you are, and to keep going in the face of what looks like it could be a long hard slog. Hopefully at some point in the not too distant future your metabolism will normalise and you'll start losing weight a bit faster - but if not, well, we're in it for the long haul and we won't desert you!

Love your father's observation, Yellow, and I think it'll be appearing on my fridge as well.

Thank you to everyone who posted encouragement after my fall off the wagon. It means a lot.

LayMizzRarb · 18/09/2013 18:13

Thanks for your lovely words everybody ! I'm not going to give up - no way hose! I am going to try a couple of days of normal but healthy eating to see if it works. All I keep thinking is - if I had 'not come on here, I would possibly have put on 7-8 lb and not lost and would now have 200 lb to lose! I have lost 1 st 3lb and promise myself I will get my hair dyed and cut at 2 stones. I go on holiday on 5 November so my goal is another 11lb off before then!
Well done everybody for keeping the faith and sticking to it!
We can do it!

Reastie · 18/09/2013 18:32

debs what kind of coil do you have? I know this might sound obvious so excuse me Blush if you've been doing this but have you been weighing portions? Since doing MFP I weigh portions (on and off) and I'm often quite Shock how small portions are maybe it's just me and I'm greedy though

henrietta Envy of your chocolate product testing. I got an email today to say I'm product testing cif cleaning cream, which I'm really excited about but it's just not as exciting as chocolate is it Wink . Can't believe you're STILL waiting for that blinking coil scan.

moonshine · 18/09/2013 18:39

Lay it Mizz - you've done so well. As I've mentioned, I seem to have a very similar problem to you, but haven't even managed to lose any (significant) weight, unlike you.

Well done to all the other losers. I had a crappy interview yesterday (well, interview ok but job not what I thought it was. I'd built it up in my mind though as am desperate to leave my job) and stupidly self-sabotaged with some wine. But once again have only managed to lose 0.5lbs in the whole week. So only 2lbs overall in about a month and am full of self-pity.

MissElodie - not nice comments but probably said through some kind of misguided love and 'concern'. Still doesn't excuse it - my mum is similar but is shocked that she has upset me when I do say something in my defence (still doesn't stop her mouth working before her brain Hmm). Rise above it as you are the better person!

moonshine · 18/09/2013 18:40

Lay it Mizz Hmm - Grin I can't even blame an Iphone autocorrect as I'm on my laptop!

SummerHoliDidi · 18/09/2013 19:01

I sts this week. Not a surprise as it has been my period week and I've had a number of chocolate related incidents in my hormonal craze. And then I thought "fuck it, I'm having a week off completely" so had a dominos pizza as well Blush. Back to it now unless you count my current self-sabotage with biscuits. It'll be a loss this week hopefully.

MiaWallace · 18/09/2013 19:18

Arrrgghhh!

This afternoon I got a £900 garage bill. So pissed off about it I went on a binge. So now I've got a huge bill and food guilt.

LegoAcupuncture · 18/09/2013 20:10

Oh dear Mia. Tomorrow is a new day, forget what you did today. Everyone makes mistakes. I'm an emotional eater so can totally relate to how you're feeling.

LayMizzRarb · 18/09/2013 20:24

I see my weight as a big black mountain I have left.
I'm walking to the seashore.
Every step takes me nearer. No good looking back, that 'ol mountain will always be there, but I'll never find my way to the beach if I keep looking back over my shoulder.....

Lorelai · 18/09/2013 20:32

Haven't got time to catch up on posts but wanted to log my loss; 1lb off

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/09/2013 21:41

LayMizz that is a great image, and your positivity is inspiring :)

Lorelai well done on the pound off!

Mia oh no, car bills are horrific :(

Summer is it wrong that I snorted at 'chocolate related incidents' Grin

moon sorry the interview was crap. It is stressful isn't it? DH has got a second interview for a fab job on Friday - I think I'm more nervous than he is.

Lunch went a bit wrong today, I ate far too much, but it was all delicious things - I had made the mistake of going to the supermarket pre-lunch and a little hungry. Blush
But I only wanted a little bit of dinner so hopefully that will have balanced things out. Fast day tomorrow.

HenriettaPye · 18/09/2013 21:47

Will be along soon with official results...having a bit of a night from hell....

OP posts:
Isthiscorrect · 19/09/2013 03:42

Sorry I'm late, very busy day every Wednesday and yesterday wads worse than ever. But 1lb off and I'm happy with that. To be honest I tried hard but then blew it, although not as badly as I would have done in the past, on a couple of occasions. So yep 1lb off is about right. Into the 16's for me next week ;-).

We'll done everyone. Excellent progress, new smaller dress for Christmas for everyone.

IsThatTrue · 19/09/2013 06:59

henrietta I hope last night wasn't too hectic for you.

5k run, quick shower and then toddlers at 9.30. Busy morning.

YellowCanary1 · 19/09/2013 07:06

I know this sounds odd but i'm worried about my rate of weight loss at the moment. According to scales this morning I've lost 10lbs in 12 days after a steady weightloss of 1 to 2lbs per week on the same diet and calories.
We do have lots going on and I'm not complaining but wonder how sustainable it will be to keep off and why its happening. I'm almost at goal so expected it to be slowing. Also as I'm breast feeding am I not giving ds enough if losing at this rate.?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/09/2013 11:05

Yellow are you allowing calories for breastfeeding? Should be 4-500 a day at the age your baby is.
That is an awful lot to lose so quickly, but then you are BFing, running, busy with life in general and eating a reduced calorie diet. Maybe try increasing your calories for a week and see what happens - if you are still losing a lot then I don't think a trip to the GP would be OTT.

YellowCanary1 · 19/09/2013 11:39

Thanks Alibaba.
I do allow for bf but think eating healthy has become such habit now in truth I quite often don't go into the extra allowed for bf and often come in under 1200 without thinking about it. Also every day I am cleaning,, painting, diy-ing etc sorting the houses for moving whilst looking after ds' s aswell as running. I feel fine at moment but think I will try to calories a bit.
Spoke to hv briefly who said my body will sacrafice my wellbeing before goodness in breast milk so quick weightloss is my bodies way of saying either slow down or fuel up more,!

HenriettaPye · 19/09/2013 12:35

OP posts:
IsThatTrue · 19/09/2013 15:59

Oh thank you for my Thanks I think the big loss was due to having sts for a few weeks previously. Or starting 5:2, who knows.

Well done everyone, wether you lost sts or put on. We will all have slip ups, it's not quitting that makes the difference :)

HerdyHerdwick · 19/09/2013 16:08

YellowCanary1 · 19/09/2013 16:17
