Half a stone by Halloween, anyone?!

MegBusset · 25/08/2013 16:06

I have been trying and failing to lose half a stone since Christmas, the failure is mainly due to my enduring of wine and chocolate but I just feel a bit out of my comfortable zone and would fit my clothes better if I managed to shift it!

I am 9st 6lb and would like to be 9st. I'm only 5ft 3in so really feel that extra half zone.

I am going to start using MFP every day (always used to but have had the summer off to enjoy ice creams and BBQs and chilled wine), once the DC are back at school I am going to start running again 2 or 3x a week (have not found time to over the hols esp as I have started working three days a week). I feel that half a stone two months ought to be really achievable but I really need to stick with it and not go "Oh fuckit" and fall off the wagon too often

Anyone with a similar amount to lose like to join me for mutual support?

I'll join. I've never deliberately attempted weight loss before. But two DC and two (ish) stone later, I need to. I'm not overweight, but can see myself just quietly putting on half a stone a year forever unless I act now. 10 stone, would like to be 9 ish.

I started running 3x a week (c25k) in June and feel a lot healthier and look more toned. Haven't lost any weight at all though. DH has and looks amazing! He's fitting into clothes two sizes smaller!

I'm not going to low carb, I don't think. Still breastfeeding and don't want to do anything radical! I'm going back to work this week and may have a bit of time to add a swim each week on the way home. I plan to cut down on the wine (a lot) and take a small packed lunch to work.

I'll sign up to MFP and have a look.

(what's MFP?)
Thinking of joining you. But that will mean admitting my weight and committing to do something about it! I know I can def not do without carbs, no way, but can eat less and move more.
Ok, deep breath...
I am 11 stone 7, always maintained weight below 10 stone till children arrived so need to lose stone and a half ideally. I'm 42 and could find the time to go to gym etc.
Need a push!!

Hello.

Ill join you! I'm 9 stone 13 and 5 ft 4, comfortable size 10.

So, not overweight but feel my best at 9 stone 7. Any lower and I look a bit gaunt so 6lbs would be perfect. I'm not looking to drop dress sizes or anything but would love to break my terrible weekend over indulgence. Anyone else suffer from this? I'm strict all week and then go mad at weekends. Sigh!

Been good this weekend though! Yesterday I ate ...

Peppermint tea
Protein bar

Goats cheese salad
Slice of melon

Edamame bean and glass noodle salad
Bowl of cherry frozen yogurt

And so far today I've had 2 weetabix with blueberries and soya yogurt.

What plan are you guys following?

I'd like to be 9 stone 11 by next weekend

OK. Have made a pot full of carrot soup and have put my trainers in the car....will take a lunch break and walk round the block for starters.....NOT going to weigh myself! Will use the waistband test...

I would also recommend C25k. I did it a year ago and apart from the odd break (like over the summer hols!) have found it reasonably easy to keep up - and I managed the Bupa 10k in May.

I am not following any particular

...plan, just sticking to 1400 cals a day (any less and I feel miserable) and from next week running 2/3x week. Plus trying to avoid booze and chocolate, my two vices!

I'm following a pretty similar method to you Meg - 1500 1400 cals a day logged on mfp. I was on the eat more, weigh less thread for a while and there were a lot of big fans there, but that plan hinges on doing a lot of exercise, which I'm not really up to doing atm.

My downfall is mini magnums and wine; if I can go even a couple of days without succumbing by the late evening, I'm pretty much guaranteed to lose 20"g or so. I just don't sustain it long enough to make a significant difference.

Looking at what I've just written makes me realise what a numpty I am carrying on with destructive behaviours. Please agree with me and tell me to Change!

Hi MegBusset, yes I "installed" my hyponoband in around Feb this year and did really well with it. You do have to read the book and religiously keep on following the golden rules and the weight falls off. The thing was that I fell off the wagon for a few months due to some personal problems and have struggled a bit since. I have to admit that I feel full so much quicker after doing the hypnosis but I am able to eat past it iyswim?
I did the hypnosis last night and I already feel a bit more in control of my appetite.
The problem with me is I hate exercise so I have the body I deserve really!

I'd like to join please. I've just got back from America and have gained 5/6 lbs. I kind of expected it but kids go back to school this week so time to knuckle down. MFP is my weapon of choice Grin

was I supposed to add weight etc? have gone from 8 stone 7lb to 8 stone 12ish. I'm 5'2" (on a good day Wink ) Ideally I'd like to get to 8stone 5ish but I know I'm not in the "zone" I need one of those motivational diet inspiring moments.

Well, that was my first ever day of calorie counting. Interesting. I've definitely been eating too much. Today I had enough calories 'left' to have two small glasses of wine, but that was because I'd run today. On a rest day I wouldn't have had that. And definitely never pudding AND wine!

I've never really had to think about my weight before - well, I've often been very underweight actually. As I said, I'm finding it 'interesting'. No more kids' leftovers!

I wonder how many calories a breastfeed uses up. I might encourage DS more! He's 14 months and doesn't have a lot now really.

Today I've had:
Large glass of cold water (and thyroxine)

breakfast(9am ish): half a bagel & home-made jam with a big mug of milky coffee

water

Lunch(2pm): slice of veg & goats cheese quiche
Mug of tea

Mug of tea, glass of water & pint of orange juice (with iron tablet)

Dinner (7pm): small bowl of boiled rice with small amount of chicken in a home-made roasted veggie sauce. Small bowl of fruity yoghurt. Mug of tea.

Will just have water now.

Went for a short walk & did some housework but not really had enough exercise today.

Ooh, can I join? I did 5:2 for a few weeks earlier in the year but, for me, it was so difficult to do and I became too obsessive about food - was literally all I thought of!

After 3 months of utter truck driver eating, I weighed in last Weds at 11st 8. At 5 7 that's definitely overweight. Being an apple it means that I now have a solid ring of fat around my middle - sexy!

Using MFP and trying to be sensible and not use cals on empty foods, and am kicking wine out of my life til I've lost at least half a stone.

Finding it OK so far but we shall see.

I'd like to be back in the low 10s, its the weight I look well at, anything more and my waist starts to disappear leaving me looking potatoish.

judy I know what you mean about leftovers, they're LETHAL! The amount of toast etc that I automatically clear away into my face is pretty amazing. No more!

Well I took the kids for a walk round the park today, I also made cakes with DS2 and managed not to eat any, or lick the bowl! I have eaten Oatibix for breakfast, tuna sandwich for lunch, baked potato with beans & salad for dinner, plum for snack.

Can I join in too?
Had DS2 on 30th July, i'm 5'4 & currently weigh 136lbs, pre.pg weight was 122 (will convert to stones when not on phone), would like to be around 115-120 however I'm feeling unfit & flabby so wouldnt mind being heavier, providing its muscle mass!
Using mfp & trying to cut out as much processed sugar/junk as possible.

Meg, very impressed that you resisted licking the bowl....thats the best part!

Can I join? I need to lose the half a stone I've gained since cutting down on breastfeeding (which was amazing for keeping my weight down, but got me into the habit of snacking all day long). I'm 5'2" and small boned, currently 9 stone 3 and wanting to get back to about 8 st 10 before I go back to work at the end of October. My best weight was 8 st 4, but I think those days are past.

Not really entirely sure how I'm going to do it, I'm going back to belly dancing next week and am trying to stop snacking, but I also think smaller portions are needed! I've been eating lots of bread too while on maternity leave, I never really ate much before as we don't have toasters in my office and I'm not a huge sandwich fan, but being at home I can have toast every day if I want...

Ooh can I join too?

I started on saturday as its 7 weeks untl s night out so hope too lose a stone best case or 7lb worst case by then. I'm following sw, as I lost 1.5 stone this year but managed to gain 6lb over the hols (eek) as didn't follow it at all.

Im starting at 12st 11lb and I'm 5ft 6, I hope to
eventually get to 11st to be in healthy bmi range.

I've mostly managed to avoid children's leftovers today, although DS's pork casserole is sitting here in front of me and is so delicious.

I've definitely been eating too much. No spare calories leftover for wine tonight. Previously I wouldn't have thought twice about that, so it'll do me good one way or another!

MegBusset · 02/09/2013 18:34

I'm capable of being good all day then destroying all my good work in the evening, as a glass of wine leads to another and then I hit the chocolate!

If I could give up wine altogether I would be dead skinny. But life would be pretty dull :)

Meg, I often think that about butter and cheese, if those didn't exist I'd be half the size.

My problem is that I try to be good so don't buy biscuits, then mid afternoon I get so hungry I eat half a packet of ham.

Report
GaryBuseysTeeth · 02/09/2013 19:11

Meg, I don't eat after 7pm (8 if it's the weekend)..which blows most of my snacking/downfalls out the window!

Suz, could you eat off one of your DC's plates if portion sizes are your vice? Belly dancing sounds really interesting!

Are we going to have a 'group' weigh-in/measurements day?

Haven't eaten too much today (although there may be 3 less biscuits in the jar!), up bright & early with DS1 in the park today, 8am & we were waving good morning to the slugs!

gary that sounds like an idea I could steal, having a cut off point, would stop the temptation to nibble salty crunchy things whilst on the sofa!

Would be nice to have a weigh in day I think, any consensus as to when? I'd prefer a weekday I think but no huge pref, will be weighing on weds just for my own reassurance that this is working! Had a good swim this eve and a long walk so hopeful of a pound or 2 coming off.
