New week, new thread, new start!

Hi guys - haven't had a great week food-wise but the scales were saying I had stayed the same until this morning when I seem to have suddenly gained a few pounds (I have a bad habit of weighing myself every morningBlush) I got my period yesterday and think maybe that is why but I am feeling rather deflated Sad I have lost every week so far and really wanted to keep it up. Not looking forward to SW weigh in tommorow night. Sad

WigWamBam · 12/06/2006 12:00

Oh, schneebly - don't be sad.

Have a look at some very wise words that suejonez posted last week ...

" ... In my experience (not just me but observing others) long term weight loss averages 1-1.5lb per week by the time you take into account not losing some weeks and even putting on occasionally. Expecting 2lb sets you up to fail and becomes depressing and results in comfort eating (IMHO!)".

She's right - sometimes you will put on a little when you're on a long-term weight-loss plan. And you know what - it's OK. Look at the big picture (I hate office-speak like that but hey, you know what I mean!) - it's about generally going downwards.

It is true WWB - I had an expectation and did set myself up for a fall. I don't deserve to have lost weight this week anyway. It might give me the kick up the bum I need! Thanks. Am feeling sorry for myself anyway - have got period and kidney infection and feel yuck!

WigWamBam · 12/06/2006 12:09

Oh, poor you - no wonder you feel sad! Dieting's the least of your worries at the moment. Are you taking anything for the kidney infection?

OP posts:
schneebly · 12/06/2006 12:13

Just went to docs today and got AB's so hopefully will feel better in a couple of days - It is my own fault, got cystitis 2 weeks ago and left it too long before taking over the counter meds which then didnt work and now it has gone to my kidneys and am having aching now as well as all the other nasty symptoms!

JackieNo · 12/06/2006 12:18

Poor you, schneeblySad. Give yourself a break, eat healthy stuff, and go for it again when you feel better.

WigWamBam · 12/06/2006 12:18

And it's not even the kind of weather where you could stand a hot-water bottle on your back either, is it!

OP posts:
schneebly · 12/06/2006 12:29

I was using one of those wheat bag thingies last night but not the best weather for it!

suejonez · 12/06/2006 12:52

Scheebly, how miserable - at least with the hot weather it should be easy to drink loads. Treat yourself to some bags of ice and some nice soft drinks and get drinking, girl! Not OJ but flavoured waters, very watered down apple juice with lots of ice, make yourself some iced tea or lemonade (or buy!). Try raspberry cordial - make it weak and the calories won't be too bad. Add cranberry powders (any health food shop, no sugar unlike cranberry juice) to your last drink of the evening - its scientifically proven to work and best taken at night so it sits in your bladder longer. Trust me I know!

I grew up with persistent UTI's and have permanent scarring of one kidney. Make sure you take all AB's at the right intervals and drink your 2litres a day religiously. Don;t overdo the drinking though - say no more than 3 litres, you don;t want to overwork your kidneys when they're infected. Then onto the live bio yoghurts after the AB's are finished, of course!

schneebly · 12/06/2006 12:55

Thanks for the advice sue - you certaiy seem to know a lot about it! Do you still suffer with them at all?

coppertop · 12/06/2006 13:07

Oh Schneebly. :( I hope the ABs start working for you asap. It sounds horrible.

Good to see you're still around ALBS. :)

My scales are digital but they only measure whole pounds rather than half pounds. My weight loss (or not) is all over the place at the moment. Some weeks I'm very restrained but either lose nothing or only a small amount. Other weeks I get bad chocolate cravings but somehow manage to lose weight. I think looking at the bigger picture (no pun intended!) is a much better idea. I've lost about 3st since I had dd so remind myself of that when I don't manage to lose anything that week.

schneebly · 12/06/2006 13:12

Thanks to all the wellwishers lol!

coppertop · 12/06/2006 13:17

We're all secretly plotting to grab that crown from you. Wink

I forgot to ask if you're feeling any better yet, WWB? Has the horrible D&V virus gone yet?

WigWamBam · 12/06/2006 13:20

I'm fine now, thanks for asking - it lasted on and off for a couple of days but has gone now. It doesn't seem to have done much for my weight loss though!! (Although neither does sitting on my bum with the new Keane CD on repeat and MN on the PC ... Wink)

OP posts:
coppertop · 12/06/2006 13:22

Ah but think of the calories you're burning up with all the typing.... Wink

WigWamBam · 12/06/2006 13:23

Oh yes, typing must burn a fair few calories ... and great exercise, I shall have the slimmest fingers in town Wink

Hi scheebly had persistent infections from birth to aged 8 when I was referred to Paeds becasue it didn't clear up (at all!) at one point and that waswhen damage ro kidney occured. Luckily had very forward thinking consultant who refused to let them take my kidney out (common practice at the time) and instead treated with high dose long term antibiotics for about 14 months then monitored until I was 16yrs.

Other than small and funny shaped kidney on one side (looks a bit like the dogs had a chew) and larger than normal kidney on the other (it compensated a bit) I am healthy. So yes, am a bit of an expert!

schneebly · 12/06/2006 14:24

gosh sue - what an unpleasant thing for a child! I am glad you are well now! Smile

suejonez · 12/06/2006 14:27

funny isn't it as I don't remember it being to bad (other than some of the Xrays which were pretty vile) and I got to miss school once a month! I could self medicate from about 7yrs old as I needed ot take AB's 4 times a day and wasn't allowed to miss a dose. I wonder now why a teahcer wasn't supervising but never occurred to m at the time. Guess they didn't bavck then - was early 70's.

alittlebitshy · 12/06/2006 18:29

just wondering what evryone else is eating in the heat??? are you finding yourselves less hungry? what shape do your meals take?
today i had:
brekkie - bowl of bran flakes with raspberries and blueberries, semi skimmed milk
Lunch - tuna salad, 2 apricots and a peach, oh and a handful of grapes
Dinner - quorn bolognaise and tagliatelle and a banana.

no doubt will have something like pepper and dips tonight when i get those 8o'clock munchies

WigWamBam · 12/06/2006 18:30

Loads of salad and fruit here today - I can't be doing with cooking and eating hot food.

Although my latte in Starbucks this morning will probably have negated some of the effect of the salad ...

OP posts:
alittlebitshy · 12/06/2006 18:37

lol, i have to force myself to order tea rather than my (previous) usual chai tea latte.....

WigWamBam · 12/06/2006 18:38

Starbucks' tea leaves an awful lot to be desired though ... normally I can't stand coffee but I do like a Starbucks latte.

OP posts:
suejonez · 12/06/2006 23:13

Skinny latte isn't too bad and its good for me as I don;t eat much dairy. I'm not eating as much in the heat (amazingly) but am drinking for England so think I'm probably waterlogged and will weigh in 10lb heavier on wednesday!

Only hot thing in my house were the new potatoes.

coppertop · 13/06/2006 10:48

The hot weather means that I generally eat less (yay!) and drink more water but the downside is that it gives me ice-cream cravings and I also do less exercise because I hate the heat.

I'm not feeling very hopeful about tomorrow's weigh-in at all.
