New week, new thread, new start!

Blush slight overuse of exclamation marks there - making me look a bit like I am on speed - oops. Blush

hub2dee · 09/06/2006 09:45

Nah ! Never ! Enjoy 'em ! They're gifts from the Lord !

Yeah, it's much better as a couple. Easier to cook meals OK for both people and excellent moral support. We're in this together, and both (hopefully) going to sort out our weight problem together (forever) this time. Also makes it much easier when going out either to restaurants or friends - facing same food choices and having same passion for Pringles etc.

dublindee · 09/06/2006 09:54

Hi Schneebly. Drinking isn't a problem for me as I'm limited to 2 small white wine sprtizers a week while pg. And that's when I don't feel ill!

I suppose I'll just have to learn to shut my mouth when it comes to the foody part of the party!

suejonez · 09/06/2006 10:55

I don't drink much maybe 1 unit a week and I've always been heartily glad of it when on a diet and watching people scrape enough calories together for their evening wine.

Agree with WWB, 1100 is way too few particularly if you have many stones to lose, you need to be in a position to gradually cut your calorie intake as you get closer to your target otherwise you'll never shift it.

It seems to be pretty well accepted by dietitians thats is not safe to live on less than 1000 calories for any length of time (probably OK for a week or so but no more), so you really wouldn't be able to to cut down much.

Why don't you start on 1500-1750 calories per day and then cut 50 calories per stone that you lose down to a minimum of say 1250. Thats a similar approach to WW and worked well for me. It's also so much easier to stick to a higher calorie intake if you're doing it for the long haul.

I should also say that I think you're unlikely to average 2lb week weight loss. In my experience (not just me but observing others) long term weight loss averages 1-1.5lb per week by the time you take into account not losing some weeks and even putting on occasionally. Expecting 2lb sets you up to fail and becomes depressing and results in comfort eating (IMHO!). Any weight loss is good (yes even 0.5lb, DDee).

Other views?

Fauve · 09/06/2006 11:15

Oh, thanks everyone for your advice. I'm very happy with slow weight loss, just as long as that curve is going in the right direction. I've reset my target to be 1lb loss a week, which on the website I'm using gives me 1500 cals a day, and if I exercise, the cals used up are added on to that 1500. I thought there was something wrong with me, being a ravening lunatic on 1100 cals a day Grin

suejonez · 09/06/2006 11:17

Thats sounds much better - and you will hopefully find life much pleasanter.

Fauve · 09/06/2006 11:18

YOu mean you're going to have to drink yourself into oblivion to get away from the football, or are you looking forward to itSmile? Personally not really looking forward to the football - we'll be watching the British Grand Prix (on TV), as DH is a big F1 fan.

Hello - I know I'm officially about 5 weeks too late, but can I join in - you sound like such a nice bunch (much nicer than the skinny minnies at WW who complain about being 3lbs overweight for their bikinis!).

From what I remember from other posts (rainwear from what I remember) I am a similar size to WWB (although now you are 11lbs down now WWB I'm probably bigger - well done by the way!).

I had my final baby 7 weeks ago, so I can officially stop blaming the c-section for sitting on the sofa munching asda's mini flapjack bites on post section recovery and get off this big butt of mine to the gym. In fact, I have just joined a Living well gym today for a month. I am in fact 14lbs lighter than I was this time last year and lighter than when I got pregnant (god bless pregnancy sickness!) but need to be fitter if I am going to see dd (nearly 4) and ds (7 weeks) blossom and grow!

I've always stayed away from these clubs before thinking that the skinny minnies would run away and hide when I said how much I weigh but your group sounds so friendly and I am just fascinated by your facts about Jaffa Cakes!!!

If you don't let me join I may have to lurk here (or foil your attempts at weight loss by surrepticiously posting you jaffa cakes laced with glucose!). I'm nice really though - please have me!!!

WigWamBam · 11/06/2006 18:31

You won't find many skinny minnies on this thread, hockeymum ... we'd squash them all WinkGrin

If you're a stone lighter than you were this time last year then you're off to a good start, and well done on taking the plunge to join the gym! I have yet to get in touch with mummyhill to get some gym sessions sorted out ... just call me Mrs Wimp, but I still haven't steeled myself to go yet.

Some of us do a weigh-in on a Wednesday, and if you'd like to do that and email me with your starting weight that would be great; if you just want to email me with your weight loss on a Wednesday that would be fine too. Or just come along for the ride if you'd rather not weigh in at all - it's all pretty free and easy on this thread! The email address is [email protected] and I promise that I won't reveal your starting weight to anyone.

Welcome aboard ... now, what was that about posting us Jaffa Cakes??

OP posts:
Fauve · 11/06/2006 22:57

Mmmm, yes hockeymum, I heard jaffa cakes...

Welcome Smile

schneebly · 11/06/2006 22:58

mmmm jaffa cakes.....

suejonez · 12/06/2006 10:23

Now stop that! Start of a jaffa cake free week...

JackieNo · 12/06/2006 10:32

Welcome, hockeymum - I was only going to lurk, but seem to be a pretty regular poster nowGrin. You're right - it is good to know that we're all in the same boat, and not just trying to lose a few pounds here and there. Great encouragement and moral support from these lovely people (was going to say 'laydees' but there's also hub2dee who would probably take offence if I called him thatGrin).

suejonez · 12/06/2006 11:23

Hi hockeymum - if you're about the same size as WWB then you're about the same size as me too. WWB and I are twins separated at birth by our evil stepmother who banished us to opposite ends of the kingdom but now we have identical parallel lives. Except that she's veggie and likes jaffa cakes.

Welcome

coppertop · 12/06/2006 11:28

Welcome to the BigMoFo's, Hockeymum. :)

Is Alittlebitshy still around too? She posted on the last thread but I haven't seen her since.

I would do my usual Monday morning confessional but I've only got a few minutes till I go to fetch ds2. Not nearly enough time to confess all my food sins. Blush

alittlebitshy · 12/06/2006 11:37

hello, i'm here....

not weighed self properly for a bit, but I am now under 11 stone......

and someone actually said to me yesterday "you've lost weight". I could have kissed herGrin

am finding this easier as the weeks go on. the first week I foun the no nibbling on crap hard, but it is getting easier and I am not as hungry between meals, i guess simply cos my body is not used to getting the cake when i'm out, or some choccie shoved in:)

went to a bbq funday thing at church yesterday and found it easier not to dive in and gobble than i have in the past. wasn't too restrictive.. it's not a normal situation, and i figured i need to have lee-way (sp?) else i'll feel like life is crap with NO treats. does that make sense???

oh and i went on a hen party on sat....

only had 2 glasses of wine (not a big drinker and was all wibbly just from that lol). was pretty good, had a treaty dinner rather than all all diet food (god combined with bbq yesterday that sounds worse than my weekend actually was food wise). had burget. mmmmmmmm. lol

WigWamBam · 12/06/2006 11:42

Wednesday's weigh-in, Fio. [email protected] is the email address.

Sounds as if you've done really well, alittlebitshy.

OP posts:
JackieNo · 12/06/2006 11:44

alittlebitshy, I've got non-digital scales too, and it is a bit of a guessing game, but still enough to see that things are going in the right directionSmile.
