Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

BIWI · 06/05/2013 09:19

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

No such thing as a hungry day, really - you're not eating enough fat! (Possibly also not drinking enough water)

springykitsch · 10/05/2013 21:02

That's a blow, then, about too much fat re gall bladder Sad

I was so excited that I had found something that works, is stupidly easy and is delicious! Maybe I can keep an eye on fat content in future? I normally eat a very healthy diet aside from the mountains of choc etc recently Blush and know a fair bit about nutrition - so I don't, eg, eat low-fat stuff because of the crap that is in it (re SUGAR!). I'll have to go to my GP re gall bladder but I don't want anyone saying this WOE is too faddy/doesn't work etc - you know how GPs can be jealous of anything that isn't their suggestion!

Fell off the wagon spectacularly this evening. I considered texting my friend beforehand to ask her to put it all away (she bakes endless cakes) but thought I'd be fine..... I didn't want to make a fuss, don't want everyone knowing what I am doing.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 10/05/2013 21:22

Hello all, just checking in. Having a lazy Friday night on the sofa with a pint of water, replete with sausages and the braised cabbage of joy. Feel like I am back in the swing, though mindlessly ate a Jaffa cake this morning at a meeting before I realised what I was doing!

QueenofDreams · 10/05/2013 21:33

Well I managed to avoid caving to the carb craving, but I feel like I messed up royally because I drank some cream, ate a slice of ham and ate a few slices of camembert to try and survive the cravings. Now I feel like a ball of lard! Tucking into steak and salad for dinner though.

QueenofDreams · 10/05/2013 21:34

Oh and I've lost 1lb this week, so some weight off is good in my book Grin

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 10/05/2013 21:46

DH scoured the shops and got 2 packets of pork scratching for me. Ive scoffed one, drank literally litres of water today and have stayed on track. I know I didnt eat enough today, but I need to give myself a kick up the arse.

twinklestar2 · 10/05/2013 22:04

BIWI I'm going to start again tomorrow morning. Thx for the chat.

Will post menu every day to help keep me on track.

Thanks :)

WhyIRayLiotta · 10/05/2013 22:10

Having a quiet no booze! Friday night - watched 'Come Dine With Me' and one o he dinners was Disco chicken would it be ok for boot camp? I love chorizo... But is it too carby?

WillieWaggledagger · 11/05/2013 06:18

No worries newstart, i'll pop you back on, I just had to remove you for the calculations

sammisatt · 11/05/2013 07:30

Yesterday:

B: sausages mushrooms egg
L pork chop leeks
S. was feeling v drained and pmt so was naughty and broke boot camp rules by having strawberries with toasted walnuts and Greek yog. I did do a double class in the gym afterwards and it made me feel a lot better.

D: half an avocado with a piece of cheese and mayo

QueenofDreams · 11/05/2013 08:12

Woohoo, I'm another 2lb down this morning! making 3lb since starting bootcamp Grin

BIWI · 11/05/2013 08:31

QueenofDreams - Flowers - but in what way is I drank some cream, ate a slice of ham and ate a few slices of camembert to try and survive the cravings messing up royally? Unless you know you have a dairy problem, this is perfect low carb eating. OK, the ham is processed - but you have eaten without eating carbs. And you have also eaten fat, which is a good thing!

..... which is also probably why you are 3lbs down Grin

FAT IS GOOD! DON'T FEAR THE FAT!

OP posts:
BIWI · 11/05/2013 08:34

springykitsch - low carb eating (i.e. high fat) doesn't cause gallstones, btw. This, from lowcarbfriends:

"Low carb doesn't cause gallstones but low cal eating in the past is more the culprit-the gallbladder becomes full of sludge from bile collecting-with low fat bile secretion is slowed and stones are often formed. Then when you do eat something fatty, bile secretion is triggered and the pain and attacks come from the clogged gallbladder or any stones there."

Just in case you get told that this WOE is causing you problems ...

That said, obviously if eating this way now is not helping, then you need to do what is necessary to keep your pain down.

BIWI · 11/05/2013 08:35

twinklestar - as the saying goes "tomorrow is another day" Grin

You are very welcome, and I hope that you manage to find a way to make it work for you. Certainly lots of people here to help and support you. Even if that's just down to "what can I make for tea?"!

OP posts:
BIWI · 11/05/2013 08:38

rubyrubyruby - are you OK? Flowers

WhyIRayLiotta - chorizo has some carbs in it (it varies according to the brand), and it is, of course, a processed food, but it's not that bad and is fine for Bootcamp. I did check it out once, as it's in one of the recipes I've posted on the recipe thread (Spanish Chicken).

sammisatt - I'm loving that strawberries with toasted walnuts and Greek yog is being naughty! OK, so the fruits/nuts aren't Bootcamp, but we are so nearly at the end of this fortnight, and you will be able to include them from Monday that it really doesn't make that much difference. (Unless you had a ton of each, and have gained 3 stones as a consequence, of course!)

OP posts:
BIWI · 11/05/2013 08:40

And I'm checking in this morning another 2.75lbs down, making a total of 4lbs for me so far. I'm now back to my pre-Christmas weight of 9 stone 3.75lbs. Makes the prospect of 8 something seem a bit more realistic!

OP posts:
QueenofDreams · 11/05/2013 08:58

Thanks BIWI Smile if I lose another 3lb I'll have lost exactly 2 stone since I started watching what I eat. With another 2 to go.

You're at my goal weight. I want to be 9-9.5 stone. Not quite sure where exactly I want to be, but the closer to 9st the better.

It's nice eating this way as I've always loved fat. I always eat all the fat on my steak and my bacon, and I always use real butter rather than spreads because it just tastes better.

On another note, is pumpkin allowed on bootcamp? I know it's fairly carby but not sure if it's allowed. I'm thinking of having some spiced pumpkin with coconut milk for breakfast this morning.

CrabbyBigbottom · 11/05/2013 08:59

Morning everyone, doesn't Saturday morning look brighter when you're not hungover (well it does for me, anyway)! Smile

Half a pound off yesterday and then again today. That makes 5lbs off since I started on Tuesday. Smile

I wasn't very hungry on Thurs, after feeling ravenous the first two days, and felt even less hungry yesterday. Feeling much clearer, calmer and more energetic than usual.

Shame I'm going to blow it all tonight by going to dinner with friends where I will drink too much and eat their asparagus risotto. Hmm Still, I'm just going to enjoy it and climb back on the wagon tomorrow.

Thursday:
B/L - smoky chicken, avocado, watercress/rocket/spinach, feta cheese, quartered olives, drenched in alioli - henceforth known as heavenly salad, 'cos it is!
D - left-over celeriac mash, refried. Chorizo, mushrooms, broccoli, a few little tomatoes (found some little ones on the vine at Sainsbo's that are 3.1 carbs), halved shallots, all tossed in oil with a bit of chilli and paprika and baked.
Snack - parma ham and chaource cheese.
2 cups tea. 2L water

Yesterday:
B - bit of parma ham with some chaource cheese.
L - heavenly salad
D - pork tenderloin fillet wrapped in bacon and roasted, with roasted broccoli and roasted celeriac mash.
Snack - some smoked salmon bits, chopped up, mixed into a load of creme fraiche with a dollop of 'caviar' (sounds so much more glamorous than lumpfish roe...) Grin This filled me up so much (5pm) that I still wasn't hungry at 8pm and didn't eat much dinner.
2 cups tea, 2L water
Also sipped half a glass of red wine with dinner. Blush

BIWI · 11/05/2013 09:04

Ah well. Such is life, Crabby! If you can help yourself, just take a smaller portion and more veg/salad - always assuming that those are served! But otherwise, just enjoy it.

Your food sounds lovely, by the way!

CrabbyBigbottom · 11/05/2013 09:10

Thanks BIWI!

You are a friend of a friend, btw (hint - I'm a cfr). Smile I'll be having said friend round for dinner at some point and cooking them low-carb, so she can report back on my cooking! Grin

BIWI · 11/05/2013 09:20

I wondered ... !

Hi everyone, and what a fab thing you're doing here BIWI! I'm going to have a read through the rules etc today and start the bootcamp tomorrow if that's ok. I'll just add my name and weight to the bottom of the spreadsheet with weigh in the morning?

I have nearly a stone to lose and really really want to lose it before the end of June!! Desperate measure now Smile

QueenofDreams · 11/05/2013 09:53

where do I find the rules of bootcamp? I haven't even read it yet, just been winging it!
