Week 2 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - How was week 1 for you?!

BIWI · 06/05/2013 09:19

Hopefully you've all entered your weight in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and I hope that everyone managed a successful first week!

It probably wasn't the easiest week to start, what with the bank holiday, but never mind. It's a really good lesson that life and all its temptations will frequently get in the way.

Hope everyone has some sunshine today. It's perfect barbecue weather, and barbecue food is perfect for low carbing. And if anyone wants a good recipe, there's a lovely one for marinated chicken on the recipe thread

has anyone tried the Alpro plain soya yogurt? I don't eat dairy so I have this at 2.1g of carbs per 100g. It's really refreshing and creamy.

BloggingAboutTediousThings · 10/05/2013 18:49

Bessie123

I researched googled one evening on the internet and found several people suggesting the coffee from Grumpy Mule. They also describe it as 'washed' on the website which means as much as wet processed I was told.

Well done Dangermouse fantastic results Grin

BIWI · 10/05/2013 18:55

STOP EATING THE HONEY!

There are 5.6g carbs in every teaspoon. Way, way too high. And if you keep eating honey you won't break the sugar addiction.

Had my rolled lamb thing tonight, with cauli mash (needed more seasoning, but OK for a first attempt) and garlic mushroooms. Twas delish, if a bit beige and colourless), but I feel a bit sick now.

And of course, DH had to bring home lots of goodies from work, as they have been trialling the Christmas range Confused, including a millionaire's shortbread trifle thing, mini chocolate truffle cakes, lovely bread and pate, a huge gammon joint and some sliced ham. I'm not bothered for the cakey things and breads as I can't eat them anyway, but the sliced ham has a fruit glaze and there are no ingredients, so not sure of the pate is safe. I will be having the gammon whilst everyone else tucks into cake!

Last week he brought home a basket full of apples and pears with a few avocados thrown in! I love his job at times Grin

springykitsch - I'm really sorry to hear about your gall bladder woes. Sadly it's something I know absolutely nothing about, so others here will be better placed to advise you. You have all my sympathy as I understand that it's very painful.

DangerousMouse - brilliant progress! Whizzing through the sizes is so satisfying. One of the most amazing things to ever have come out of my mouth was "these are too big, do you have them in a size 8?" Grin

I'm finding this WOE eating hard and am wondering if its right for me? I feel like I'm eating the same things every day - erm because I am! I'm having scrambled eggs for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch and then meat and veg for dinner, although today I had 2 sausages and a boiled egg for dinner cause I was so hungry. I have to confess I had a handful of doritoes before dinner because I was SO hungry and then after dinner I had a Mr Kipling cake slice.

I dont eat fish or cheese so I'm struggling with meal ideas.

twinklestar2 · 10/05/2013 19:17

Just wanted to add I had the cake slice because I wasn't satisfied.

The good thing about this diet though is that I have stopped snacking.

What do you think I should do?

BIWI · 10/05/2013 19:28

Do you believe that it is a good way to eat - i.e. for your health as well as your weight?

Do you prefer eating like this to having to count every calorie or buying low fat foods stuffed with sugar and artificial ingredients?

If so, then you should stick with it! But you should certainly not be eating the same thing every day. Why are you? Why have scrambled eggs every day? Why not have hard boiled eggs, mashed with mayo or butter, or poached eggs with spinach and hollandaise sauce, or a mushroom omelette?

One of the really liberating things about this WOE is that you are able to eat lovely, satisfying foods - even if you don't like fish/cheese.

Have you checked out the recipe thread? Plenty of inspiration there.

But if you're hungry, then you're not eating enough and not eating enough fat. You will certainly have sabotaged yourself with the Doritos and Mr Kipling cake - and they're not even that nice either! Grin

Look, only you can make the decision if this WOE is for you. Of course I'm going to tell you it is. But I can't do it for you!

TreeLuLa · 10/05/2013 19:29

twinkle, you are not really eating proper food!!

Have a look at some of the daily menus that people are posting - they should give you some good ideas.

ALso, if you combine carbs with this high-fat way of eating, then you will put on weight!! It's only OK to eat lots of fat if there are no carbs too.

TreeLuLa · 10/05/2013 19:30

I have just done Day one of the 30 day shred. All my muscles are trembling.

But I am Grin.

Lightest I have been for 18 months Grin Grin

ATTENTION BOOTCAMPERS

thank you very much to those who have weighed in, and well done everyone! i am pleased to announce:

Biggest loser of the week: TreeLuLa
Biggest %age loser: PennyHofstadter

a couple of points:

  • i have archived those who did not give an initial start weight, as according to the spreadsheet that would mean their weight was 0 and that would skew me averages. if you find that you have disappeared from the spreadsheet this is probably the reason why and please note that you have NOT been kicked out of bootcamp it is purely for accurate calculation purposes - just shout and you will be reinstated
  • for the biggest %age loser i tend to discount those who count their weight down from 100, as their %age loss is artificially high. i hope no one minds or is offended, it's purely for accurate calculations again
twinklestar2 · 10/05/2013 19:40

BIWI - sorry to be awkward! But I dont eat butter or mayo. Or poached eggs! Or mushrooms!

I sound like a fussy bitch, dont I?!

I made the celariac dauph (cant spell it!) the other day and I didn't like that creamy taste and texture.

I think I'll do a meal plan for the coming week so I'm not eating the same every day.

I'm tracking on MFP so I can keep an eye on cals and carb count, etc.

Before I started this WOE I was already eating mainly non processed, organic and low carb as in no pasta, rice, potatoes or bread. This is taking it to the next level and not sure if I'm ready for it!

I wanted to get soup for lunch from Pret - the Moroccan chicken soup - from the ingrediants it looked ok to eat but then the carb count said 32g Shock

TreeLuLa · 10/05/2013 19:44

williw I am very excited but I fear I have filled in your spreadsheet wrongly (sorry sorry sorry)

I have only lost 2 lbs this week, but put in my start weight for my start date in January (had lost 10 lbs in all) but not all in one week!

I think the gong needs to go to someone else!

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 10/05/2013 19:49

Can I ask advice please? Sorry if it has all been asked millions of times!
I want to try a low carb diet for a while, got weight to lose and also a bad headspace about food, especially carbs. I've been 4:3ing and stalled on weightloss also I can't really do it when I'm at home all day, and I've got 3 months of dissertation writing coming up.
So. I'm vegetarian, no fish, but dairy and eggs I love. I can't do a strict strict diet so is boot camp light what I'm going for? Does anyone have any links? Or recipe ideas? Any other veggie low carbers who can give me any tips? I tried grated cauliflower instead of rice today and it was amazing.
Thanks!

BIWI · 10/05/2013 19:51

Twinklestar - you aren't being awkward at all. We all have our own little foibles! Grin

But please don't worry about calories - we really, really, really don't count calories on Bootcamp/when we're low carbing. There is no need

When you say this is 'taking it to the next level' I don't understand what you mean. If you were already avoiding processed foods, and not eating bread/pasta/rice, then that's pretty much Bootcamp. What are you doing/eating (or not doing/eating) that you feel is moving you to the next level?

OP posts:
WillieWaggledagger · 10/05/2013 19:53

not to worry treelula - i've added your loss since january in columns D-F (it's where i put in losses that people want to include which fall outside the bootcamp we're currently on)

It just means that pennyhofstadter is also biggest loser for the week!

TreeLuLa · 10/05/2013 19:54

I don't eat meat and have been on Bootcamp or Lite since January.

Breakfasts:
Mushroom omlette
Scrambled egg
Celery with Philadelphia or peanut butter
Total Greek yoghurt
Biled eggs mashed with Boursin

Lunches:
greek salad
mozzarella, tomato, basil and olive salad
Halloumi salad
egg salad
celery with boursin
egg mayonnaise inside little gem salad leaves

Suppers
Swiss eggs (eggs, tomato, herbs, cheese)
Vegetable curry with cauli rice
Egg and celeriac chips

That's all I can think of off the top of my head - I eat fish so dinners is the trickiest I think - I rarely have fish in my lunch or breakfast. I have to take care with cheese and not eat too much.

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 10/05/2013 19:54

Omg I've just noticed the questions thread Blush off to read.

TreeLuLa · 10/05/2013 19:55

Thanks willie.

That's what comes of filling the spreadsheet in in excitement at 6.20am!!
Grin

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 10/05/2013 20:01

Thanks treelula they sound great! I need a lost of veg that are low carb I think. How are parsnips? My friend made me some parsnip chips in a deep fryer which were gorgeous, as nice as proper chips! But I bet parsnips are quite carby aren't they?

TreeLuLa · 10/05/2013 20:05

Oh yes, no parsnips. You will need to watch out for BIWI and her big stick if you mention them again Wink

twinklestar2 · 10/05/2013 20:07

I used to have soup for lunch - one of those Tesco Finest ones and I used to allow myself a wholemeal wrap once in a while. And I used to eat yoghurt and fruit for breakfast or have muesli (nice Dorset cereals one).

Maybe I'm just having a hungry day?

TreeLuLa · 10/05/2013 20:08

Oh and Ehric - broccoli and stilton soup. yummmmmmmm

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 10/05/2013 20:23

Great :) there are so many delicious meals that I would usually avoid when trying to lose weight. Looking forward to the challenge!
