New thread for a new week!

I'd rather have an ice-cream than pretend I was eating something "diet"! It's just the way my mind works - it would make me more aware of "diet" and "deprivation", I think.

I also puts me in mind of something else my friend does which makes me feel uneasy - she won't eat ice-lollies but freezes grapes and raspberries so that she feels as if she's having a "treat" - and that would do my head in. It makes ordinary foods (or things that you should be able to eat in moderation) into something "naughty"; I think that's my problem with it really. My head's all screwed up when it comes to food though, so that might just be me!

LOL toadie... not sure I'm on the same wavelength wrt to all this !

I freeze grapes too sometimes cos they're just yummy like that, and very refreshing, and choc is delicious room-temp or frozen !

Have you tried frozen salad leaves ? It takes ages to eat them and you can really stretch that celery stick ya know...

WigWamBam · 14/05/2006 10:22

Now you're just taking the p*ss Grin

I've had a kind of odd week so far. Talking to my mum she reminded me that I'm always like this when I first get back on a diet. I go from eating everything, all the time to reasonable amounts. But because I'm hungry, eating too much of the right thing, (IYSWIM), then I get anxious because I might not lose weight!

So I have decided that eating too much of the "right" thing is Ok for now as I then just have to work on cutting volumes down.

I still feel positive though, I'm going to go out and do the gardening then paint my nails (can't eat with wet nail polish!

Well, not a great weekend, but not too awful. Bad choices (DH decided to cook baked camembert) but small-ish portions, so part way there. Will try to continue, but not sure I'll have lost anything this weekSad.

WigWamBam · 15/05/2006 12:03

Even if you've only been a bit more careful with portion sizes it all adds up - and really it's about taking little baby steps, I think. No need to feel Sad, try not to let it get to you and start again from today.

Sometimes when I'm struggling I find it helps if I tell myself it's just for today ... I chose to be careful about what I eat today. By the following day I'm generally feeling a bit better about it so don't feel I'm struggling so hard.

Yes, you're right - baby steps etc. Bought healthy snacks (well, dried fruit and nuts, and I'm aware that they're also v calorific, but am hoping to decant them into a small pot) to bring in to work, but left in such a rush this morning that I forgot them. Must try to remember them tomorrow.

bran · 15/05/2006 13:41

Hellfire - I'm going to have to start serious dieting sooner than I had planned. I've only been back at work for a week and I've put on 5 pounds. Shock I've been eating less than I would at home with ds but my work is very sedentary so I'm burning very few calories. I am giving up sugar from today, hopefully that will stabilise my weight while I consider whether to go back to WW or not.

JackieNo - baked camenbert mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Smile

WigWamBam · 15/05/2006 13:42

That's one thing that I have in my favour with regard to weight loss ... I can't abide cheese. I wish I didn't like chocolate though ... Grin

OP posts:
JackieNo · 15/05/2006 13:47

Love cheese and chocolate (not together, though!).

suejonez · 15/05/2006 14:33

I can take or leave chocolate (like it but don't get cravings) but cheese. Oh god cheeeeeese, I love you cheese, marry me and have my babies. I can't buy cheddar cheese I have no control over myself.

I stick to laughing cow and a bit of parmesan.

WigWamBam · 15/05/2006 14:36

See, that's why I'm glad I hate the stuff ... the amount of people I know who have gone crazy when they diet because they can't have cheese anymore. I can't stand the smell, the taste, the texture ... yukyukyuk

made myelf big pot of lo-cal veggie soup yesterday.

Medium onion lightly fried in small amount of oil
Big Jar of passata + equal amount of water (or liquidise tinned toms)
couple of handfuls of chopped mixed veg (tinned or frozen if you don't have time or are a cooking slut)
teaspoon of minced chili
Simmer for 15/20 mins

Serve with really heavy ultra wholemeal toast.

Yummm, saves my bacon when I get in from work. Keeps my mouth occupied whilst dinner is cooking.

suejonez · 15/05/2006 14:39

I thought it was against the secret veggie code not to like cheese?!

WigWamBam · 15/05/2006 14:42

I don't know whether it's against any veggie codes ... makes it very difficult to eat out sometimes though, particularly as I don't do spices or nuts either!

OP posts:
suejonez · 15/05/2006 14:52

What on earth do you eat in restaurants - pasta with tomato sauce (hold the parmesan), can't think of anything else unless its a vegan restaurant.

WigWamBam · 15/05/2006 15:01

Erm ... not that we get out all that much ... but I can usually find something. Risottos, pasta - I don't mind cooked cheese too much, so I can manage with baked pasta dishes, pizzas, stuffed mushrooms, that kind of thing.

It gives some insight though into how difficult it must be for a proper vegan.

OK had a really awful weekend foodwise, and a really awful day today lifewise, so today I'm declaring a hold because I need comfort food, can't face depressed/pissed off and hungry at the same time. I promise I'll be good tomorrow, but today I'm going to be very very bad.

aintmebabe · 16/05/2006 12:31

Go for it! Grin Are you going to tell us what you comfort eat? I'm going out for a Thai meal with the kids' schoolfriends' mums tonight, so that's me stuffed, too. Although I will TRY to be abstemious.

Hope you feel better tomorrow Smile

serenity · 16/05/2006 12:35

Lots of bread, lots of cheese possibly microwaved to be extra gross. Also might have to make cakes in order to lick cake mix bowl.

JackieNo · 16/05/2006 12:41

Can you get yourself a non-food treat as well as the bread and cheese? Maybe a trashy magazine - that always does it for meGrin. (And remember rule whichever number it is: No Beating Yourself Up).

serenity · 16/05/2006 12:48

I need to go to one of the local charity shops and get a job lot of cheesy romances instead. I can normally get through one in about an hour, but I find a bit of unabashed romance and mild perve scenes gets you through the doldrums. Maybe after lunch (DD's getting hungry)

JackieNo · 16/05/2006 12:50

Ooh - good idea. Lasts (a bit) longer than a mag. Barbara Cartland (haven't read one of those for yearsGrin)?

suejonez · 16/05/2006 12:59

I'm lucky - my mum is a second hand book dealer - I just go over and pinch books from her. It's like having my own personal library (without the fines).

JackieNo · 16/05/2006 13:02

Lucky you, Suejonez - my DH is constantly complaining about my book habit. I do clear them out fairly regularly, but they still build up.
