Oh blimey, I just had 4 bananas for breakfast - I know, I know, but I was starving - then entered it on my online food diary - 440 calories!!!!!! I had no idea - no wonder the weight hasn't been coming off. I thought I was being virtuous. I tend to think fruit is 'free' - hmmm, maybe not.

BLimey - didn't realise that bananas had that many calories! I tend to think of fruit and veg as 'calorie-free' too.

suejonez · 12/05/2006 10:38

Fruit is not "free" on the whole though many veg are. I seem to remember a portion of most fruit eg an apple, a pear, handful of cherries etc are about 50 calories and bananas about double that.

If you like bananas why not buy the little ones they market at children? You can still have four for half the calories! Still better to pig out on bananas then sugar and fat though.

I have a sweet tooth but not keen on most fruit but I do like a handful of ripe cherries when they're in season, delicious. And they have very low GI if any of you follow that.

I have been a big, pig, snacker today. Feel ashamed (and full).

Flapjack just after breakfast
Chocolate raisins (because I found them in my bag!)
But, big salad lunch (much too big, but there you go!)

DH has suggested a takeaway tonight - which is the least bad, and what should I have? I'm thinking Chinese - boiled rice with chicken & veg??????

JackieNo · 12/05/2006 13:07

Chicken tikka (no sauce) is supposed to be quite good, as takeaways go, isn't it?

Not been too bad - had a chocolate rice cake as a snack this morning (apparently only 61 calories, and they seem huge). Can't shake the chocolate cravings - also had a small (not 'fun size'[ha!], but next smallest) packet of choc buttons after my sandwich. Still feeling The Power of MumsnetSmile. But not sure I'm going to be losing much at this rate... we'll see.

And Littlefish - don't feel ashamed - you had a salad for lunch, which has to be good. Remember, no beating yourself up Smile.

Pork char sui not too bad the way my chinese makes it.

Or can you seggest to DH that you leave chinese for Saturday when you can save up lots of calories and enjoy it more.

I pretty much droped chinese and Indian during last diet and haven't really gone back to them, but then I dont have DH to deal with...

Think I will buy more of the chocolate rice cakes - they're really rather tasty (rather to my surprise!). And yes, Suejonez, definitely try to just have something tiny. If the weather gets a bit cooler, could have the hot chocolate things - good idea, I'd forgotten about them. Will look out for the M&S thing. Thanks for the suggestionsSmile.

I had a shock yesterday when I put my sticky ribs into my food diary that it's about 2000 calories (that's using 1kg of ribs, and me and dh tend to eat them between us.....) That one might have to come off the menu list for a while Grin

Ok, reason why I should be able to lose weight

  • it's only 12 hours a week, but when I do work it's a very physical job (lifting, carrying, lots of walking)

  • Without snacks, my usual lunches and dinners bring me in 'under budget' iyswim

but that's about it (hate veggies, school's too far to walk, naturally lazy Wink)

I'm buying a bike from a work collegue next week and I'm trying to persuade DH that if he can cycle 15 miles to work, I can try and do 5. The only problem is that I don't finish work until 12.30am and he's concerned about me cycling alone that late at night. we'll see. ATM I don't think I could actually manage it without throwing up anyway.

Glad everyones still 'up' about this Smile

LittleFish, don't beat yourself up. Move on and forget about it now.

I used to buy Milky Way Magic Stars for my chocolate cravings - I think it was Yorkiegirl put me onto those. They're tiny so you seem to get a lot for your calories. Or if your self-control is better than mine, get a big bag of fun-size bars and keep them in the fridge. M&S have a load of chocolatey puddings in their Count On Us range - mostly not suitable for veggies, sadly, but brilliant for everyone else as a treat.

I haven't actually had any chocolate cravings this time yet, which is a real blessing and quite strange really!

Sadly, if there's chocolate in the house, it generally gets eatenSad, so safest for me to just buy a little on the way to work each day, I think. Just read that and thought 'Why each day?' Why can't I just drop to alternate days? Will try. Might have to buy some nice fruit to bring in on the other days, so I feel as though I'm still having a treat.

Small bars of really good dark chocolate (like Green and Black's Maya Gold) are great because a very small amount will satisfy the craving, and I think dark chocolate has fewer calories anyway. I have such a problem with chocolate though that I found it easier to go cold turkey and give it up completely when I was doing WW. I had a hellish 4 or 5 weeks and then I didn't crave it anymore.

We still have chocolates left over from Easter. My favourites are the Celebrations chocolates and I keep picking at them. Blush

WW whip choc bar (or really any other) in freezer takes longer to eat and is refreshing, and one is maybe less likely to grab 'n stuff in gob...

Hello all,

I started back on weight watchers on 2nd May, my weigh in day is a saturday. So far I've lost 9lb on the full choice plan, but i have another 9st 5lb to go, i'm just hoping that I can keep it up this time and not fall by the wayside as I have a couple of things going on at the minute and tend to eat for comfort.

WigWamBam · 14/05/2006 09:02

I've never been convinced by freezing chocolate bars - it seems to be one of those things that keeps you in the mindset that some things are forbidden, or that you need to treat them somehow differently to make them fit into a diet. It also seems designed to keep you thinking too much about food, which I certainly find is a real barrier to losing weight. A friend of mine is always coming up with puddings she's "allowed" to eat on her SW diet - a chocolate Options drink mixed with low-fat natural yogurt or silken tofu, that sort of thing - they taste awful, look awful, and only serve to keep her thinking about being on a diet, which just makes her binge more later on. For me it works best not to ban anything entirely, and not to make artificial substitutes for treat foods - I find I feel less like I'm on a diet if I allow myself a small amount of the real thing every so often.

Arfy, don't beat yourself up - if you're not well you should listen to your body and eat when it tells you to. There's plenty of time to get back onto the wagon when you feel better, and you'll probably be in a better emotional state for it as well.

Radley, 9lb is a great start - stay confident. You can do it. We all can.
