Yama · 13/03/2013 21:19

Hey everyone,

I've just booked the flights for our summer holiday - Finland here we come!

We'll be visiting a couple of uni friends (married) as well as spending a few days in Helsinki. Man, it's been ages since I've been anywhere different. Am mega excited .

BIWI · 13/03/2013 21:21

Yay! It's great to have a holiday to look forward to.

Thanks BIWI. A new country to see. I am now going to spend my evenings looking up things to do in Helsinki and the surrounding area. I will be a Finn geek. Grin

Hi all, had only a 1lb loss this week but a loss is a loss ! I am writing to tell you all about the faux pancakes I made this morning, taken from pig to twig diet book. Really nice made from ground almonds instead of flour, walnuts, eggs, baking powder and ground linseed. Yummy, they are like fat drop pancakes. Highly recommended

Yama · 13/03/2013 21:47

Ooh, recipe pleas Firsttimepig - I've just got dh all excited.

Doshusallie · 13/03/2013 21:50

Grin Noel... No not a show veg. Not sure of weight, will get one from fridge and check...

Firsttimepig · 13/03/2013 21:54

Here's the recipe

40g ground linseed
60g walnut pieces
50g Finely ground almonds
2tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp sea salt
4 tbsp Splenda ( optional of course )
4 large eggs
240ml unsweetened soya milk
1tsp baking powder

Blend all leave for about 15 mins before you use it as it expands a bit,
Add baking powder just before you plan to fry. Blobs of mixture in the pan 2 mins each side. X

Yama · 13/03/2013 21:58

Thanks Firsttimepig - dh will be making at the weekend. We'll use almond milk instead of soya and no Splenda (don't have any).

Roll on the weekend!

Firsttimepig · 13/03/2013 22:00

Let me know if you enjoy them

littlermissstan · 13/03/2013 22:00

Yep, always do scrambled in the microwave - I'm with slummy in refusing to wash an egg pan! Just home from my first hula hoop lesson!! Lots of fun. Dinner was some chicken fried up with cabbage, courgette, lardons, olives, feta and mixed in a bit of pesto. Looked hideous, tasted good...

timidviper · 13/03/2013 22:15

BIWI I thought hungry was a permanent state for most children no matter how much they ate. If I had a pound (or even a penny) for every time mine had said "I'm hungry"...

Well my reverse whoosh seems to show I have put on 4lb since Friday despite being quite good but I suspect my body is up to something and I just don't know what yet. I'm asthmatic and my peak flows are dropping (often means you are in the process of going down with something) so have increased my inhalers and wonder if the weight gain is all part of the same thing. Will wait and see.

Ilovemyteddy · 13/03/2013 22:27

Yama we were in Helsinki for just one day in September. It's absolutely beautiful with stunning architecture. Very easy to walk around and excellent shops. I'm Envy

MaryBeardfanclub · 13/03/2013 23:00

re the headlines last week re death from processed meat I am pleased to announce that Ms Harcombe has dissected the report and the results are here www.zoeharcombe.com/blog/

ewan that was a lovely interjection in the GP debate over on the other thread, I am doing similar with my dc. I am not in charge of their meals - dp is stay at home but am trying to educate him a bit and pasta is occasional rather than daily. We are making progress.

yama how lovely, I have always wanted to visit Finland. It's lovely to have something to look forward to.

MaryBeardfanclub · 13/03/2013 23:04

oo I have some shirataki noodles - we do not like them, am I doing something wrong ie drain and wash for 2 mins then add to whatever sauce and eat. They are a bit like polystyrene

Bessie123 · 14/03/2013 00:22

marybeardfc I rinse the noodles for a long time then cook them on a fairly low heat in coconut oil for ages. They are a bit less like eating elastic bands that way.

Lavenderhoney · 14/03/2013 02:50

Morning everyone, black, hope you are feeling better. My ds has been Awake all night with a very high temperature and a pain in his mouth. His teeth are lovely and I can't see an ulcers etc. he won't be going to school today which upsets him as he loves it. He is crying about this.

Dd is ok but she has her head on me as I type and she is very hot. I'm going to run out of medicine aren't I?

I am so tired and been up cuddling ds all night - he couldn't sleep- and dd wakes always so early.

Had a small ferro rocher thing I found in the fridge in the night. Otherwise lc all the way.

B-cheese omelette
L- cucumber and pâté
D- cabbage and steak.

Loads of water.

Iamaslummymummy · 14/03/2013 04:16

Morning lavender I've been up since 1 with my nightly coughing season and then my new dog came to eagle me back up with kisses!

Yesterday
B yogurt and cream
L salad - cauliflower, goats cheese, lettuce, vinagrette
D clearing out the fridge before shopping tomorrow - layered bake with braised mince, then aubergine, then ratatouille, then aubergine then halloumi and mozzarella on the top.

Off to waitrose tomorrow Grin

JakeBullet · 14/03/2013 06:18

Good morning all, after yesterday's disaster at lunch time I am prepared today. Starting a course this morning and have packed yoghurt with vanilla essence added, plus macadamia nuts (about 6g) and a few blueberries.

Lunch is salad with pâté and cheese. Plus have made some Parmesan shortbread in case I feel like snacking but doubt I will.

...and of course lots and lots of water, :)

Yama · 14/03/2013 06:19

Morning Lavender - I too have a child upset that she can't go into school today. Dd has been sick on her own bed and then in our bed. Dh was off with ds the other day so it's my turn to stay off. Except I'll have to get ds to nursery as dh is already at work.

ILoveMyTeddy - you are making me more excited. I might spend today looking up hotels.

MaryBeard - yes, it's great to have something to look forward to. I shall report back about what it's like. We'll all still be here in July won't we?

BlackAffronted · 14/03/2013 07:40

Im feeling great now Lavender, thanks. Hope your DC didnt keep you up all night :( poor things.

I seem to have kept off my "sickness" weight off desite eating normally now for 2 days. I also seem to have dropped another pound on top! These BABs and leptin reset really seems to be working for me :)

Yesterday -

BAB - protein shake, 2 egg omlette with cheese

l - salad leaves, boiled egg & crispy bacon with sour cream cucumber salad

d - chicken/parmesan/tomato/asparagus roll ups with salad leaves & cucumber salad

2 peppermint & licourice teas, loads of water

BlackAffronted · 14/03/2013 07:40

Evil twin. hope you are not getting ill :(

BlackAffronted · 14/03/2013 07:43

OMG have you seen what The Sun have done to poor Gwyneth? :( Calling it food abuse, and warning that the council can seize out children if we ban carbs!!

JakeBullet · 14/03/2013 07:45

The Sun are just shite tbh....surely nobody takes them seriously. If nothing else I hope it makes a few people find Briffa and realise we have been sold a lie for the last 50 years.

Anyway am not convinced Gwynnie is doing things right if they are all hungry.

BIWI · 14/03/2013 08:00

Morning all!

Sorry to hear about your DD Lavender, and hope she's better soon.

interesting piece here about low fat diets and perhaps the fact that there is a recognition of their harmfulness
