Terrines aux aromates (herb terrine)
Serves 6 as a main course with salad and is adorable
450g of frozen spinach
100g good quality ham finely chopped
450g good quality sausage meat
Crushed clove garlic
3 tbsp of chopped fresh herbs (parsley, basil, rosemary)
200g thinly cut bacon for lining the terrine

Line a 1.25 litre ovenproof dish with the bacon and mix the remainder ingredients together in a separate bowl. Spoon the mixture on top of the dish lined with bacon and place more bits of bacon over the top of the mixture cover tightly with foil. Place the dish in a roasting pan and pour water onto the roasting tin so it comes half way up the sides.

Cook in centre of moderate oven for 1 hour - 1 hour 10 minutes. (170 degrees - 180 degrees)

Terrine is very impressive turned out onto a serving dish. I sometimes add chopped chestnuts (but not sure if these are allowed).

Can be served hot or cold (ps it's also a very good dinner party starter with a rocket & Parmesan salad)

LittleFrieda · 13/03/2013 11:20

Forgot to say (defrost the frozen spinach first and squeeze out any excess water)

WillieWaggledagger · 13/03/2013 11:52

Yup Ewan I'm tempted to make it too but am resisting as I would be far to likely to overdo it

littlermissstan · 13/03/2013 11:59

I am trying to adapt the BAB concept for breakfasts I can make and eat at work - lots of buttery scrambled egg as we have an office microwave, does anyone have any other suggestions as becoming a little bit egged out...

In other news, I am trying out a hoola hooping class tonight, hoping it will help further trim my waist!

12lbs down as of this morning, pushing on...

herecomesthsun · 13/03/2013 12:03

How do you make scrambled egg in a microwave?

LittleFrieda · 13/03/2013 12:12

I struggle most with variation at breakfast. Eggs. Eggs. Eggs.

Bessie123 · 13/03/2013 12:14

Still eggy but how about breakfast muffins? Like the inside of a quiche but bake in muffin tin.

Or yoghurt

Or tofu and mushroom stir fried with soy sauce, reheated in the microwave?

Smoked salmon and cream cheese?

BlackAffronted · 13/03/2013 12:32

Ok, as promised here is the leptin thing I was reading about here. I am not doing it 100% as I am still doing exercise in the morning once a week. I am eating as soon as I get up & eating 50g of protein, thats the only hard bit. I am seeing differences already though, so I am keeping at it for the 6/8 weeks you need to reset. I can go 6 hours between meals already and no snacking at all.

It is supposed to increase your sex drive (noticing this already), increase your body temp a but (noticing already), decrease hunger (yep) change body shape (yep, starting to get a waist!) even moods (was getting that from low carb anyway) sleeping soundly at night (oh yes! last few nights Ive been dead to the world! and that was AFTER improving my sleep with bootcamp!).

I read loads about it, and Dr Kruse, before doing it, to be sure it wasnt just a new fad Grin but decided that anything that stops me snacking has to be worth a try :) There is a 2000+ page thread on Marks Daily Apple about it too, which was very informative.

teaandthorazine · 13/03/2013 13:00

My office-mate has brought in homemade chocolate tiffin - aaargh. I've made her deliver it to a colleague on another floor to take it out of my eyeline!

Acually feel ok today. Mildly headachy, but otherwise pretty good. Quite snacky, but I know that's because I'm not in ketosis yet. Had yoghurt for breakfast, snacked on a few brazil nuts, now eating cheese and olives for lunch. Not exactly bootcamp but got to be better than a sandwich and a lump of choc tiffin!

MaryBeardfanclub · 13/03/2013 13:19

jake interestingly on the calorie front, at my health assessment my daily calorie intake was estimated as 2900 (govt recommendation 1900). My weight is stable at 124lbs on that intake. I think that's why I feel warm - have felt cold for 25 years following their low fat low cal regime Angry

off to read up on leptin reset...

timidviper · 13/03/2013 14:07

Well I seem to be having a whoosh in the wrong direction (sounds like an emema or similar doesn't it? Grin) as I have inexplicably gone up 4lb since the weekend.

Don't know quite what I've done to deserve it but never mind, will battle on.

captainmummy · 13/03/2013 14:45

herecomesthesun - scramnbled eggs are the easiest thing in the microwave! Break eggsinto a plastic container and whisk. Add some butter/cream and microwave on high for about 1 min. Whisk again. microwave for about 15 secs. Repeat if you need to - bearing in mind they will still cook when you remove them from oven.

Saves on the washing up too, washing eggy pans is a right 'mare.

BlackAffronted · 13/03/2013 17:10

Whoever mentioned peppermint & liquorice tea, I get this one here and it is lovely! I bought mine in Morrisons. Its so nice I drink about 3 cups a day.The Morrisons magazine also has a 50p off voucher inside.

BlackAffronted · 13/03/2013 17:16

Making this for dinner! Found a few low carb, or easily adaptable recipes there.

JakeBullet · 13/03/2013 17:17

OMG...what a day....broke down in the way home from a meeting...waited for my Dad to come and help me (bless him). Told him I was starving and asked if he would bring me some cheese and ham pieces to keep me going. Forty minutes later he rocks up bearing a Kentucky and chips (no I didn't bloody well refuse them I was staaaarvinb).

Anyway, car sorted, now home, low Carbing like crazy and making plans for tomorrow to ensure I have supplies in me for future.
btw...sirloin steak is delicious with swede, courgette and aubergine dauphinoise.

Am stuffed....drinking plenty if water but must admit that yesterday did not manage 2.5 litres as got sick of going to the loo every five minutes. On form today.

BlackAffronted · 13/03/2013 17:59

Mmm those chicken roll-ups were very tasty :)

MsRinky · 13/03/2013 18:43

Evening bootcampers. Interesting article here:

BlackAffronted · 13/03/2013 18:45

I wonder if her book will be any good?

BlackAffronted · 13/03/2013 18:47

"If the daily diet in the Paltrow household includes protein (fish/meat/eggs/pulses), unprocessed fats (butter/olive oil), plenty of vegetables and some fruit, then it is healthy, nutrient-rich and lacking in nothing. If that's what the Paltrow kids eat, she's doing them a favour."

BIWI · 13/03/2013 19:34

That's a really good article apart from the bit about being hungry, which I really don't understand Hmm

OP posts:
halfthesize · 13/03/2013 20:35

Fab article MsRinky I really like GP, but agree with BIWI cant understand why her DC are getting hungry Confused

NoelHeadbands · 13/03/2013 20:43

Evenin all

Good news, I'm back in ketosis after my long weekend of total carbage.

B- bacon and scrambled eggs
L - celery with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Extra sticks of butter
T - egg and chips low carb style (celeriac)

Heavy on the processed stuff, will have a better food day tomorrow

spilttheteaagain · 13/03/2013 20:55

There is a thread in In The News about the GP article. Just off for a read!

Doshusallie · 13/03/2013 21:05

Are there seriously 9 carbs in one leek?

BIWI · 13/03/2013 21:16

I wouldn't think so - how much did the leek weigh? It would have to weigh around 300g to be 9g carbs
