Week 9 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - Nearly there ...

BIWI · 04/03/2013 07:49

So we enter the last two weeks of Bootcamp. Still time to drop another 2-4lbs!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to come and confess all.

Remember, at the bottom of the spreadsheet is a tab for Ubercamp, if you fancy three strict days.

Good luck!

Oops sorry, thought it was a pales diet! Milk is fine :) xx

BlackAffronted · 06/03/2013 07:43

Yesterdays menu, before I forget!

B - 2 egg omlette with sprinkling of cheese
L - salad, coleslaw, steak fried in butter
S - chicken thigh, piece of smoked sausage
D - tandoori chicken kebabs with shallot, courgette & mushrooms, handfull of lettuce

... and Im down 3lbs. Just cutting my portions down yesterday, no uber or dairy removal yet! Maybe I was eating far too much! Drank more than 4.5 litres of water plus a few fruit teas.

WillieWaggledagger · 06/03/2013 07:46

Welcome crazycatlady!

Milk contains lots of sugars so it is best to reduce the quantity. Lots of us do continue to have a splash of milk in tea or coffee (trying to keep to only a couple of cups a day), or substitute double cream instead

I don't know very much about soy or almond milk, it would depend on the number of carbs, but I would say that a latte generally is not a good idea as it could be quite high carb, and trigger an insulin reaction.

Have you read up on low carbing? Biwi's written some fab info here and here and we are mostly following the rules of bootcamp here

BlackAffronted · 06/03/2013 07:47

No crazycat, no milk! Try unsweetened almond milk or cream :)

BlackAffronted · 06/03/2013 07:48

Alpro unsweetened almond milk is less than 1 carb per 100ml.

JakeBullet · 06/03/2013 07:54

....will rush out and buy almond milk today...the unsweetened stuff. Hope it's not too weird in tea.

BlackAffronted · 06/03/2013 08:02

Ive never had it in tea, I only ever used it to mix with a protein shake or to drink on its own.

captainmummy · 06/03/2013 08:25

If you put almond or soya in tea, make sure the liquid is not too hot. Let it cool for a few minutes otherwise the milk curdles and looks horrible!

TheEarlyBird · 06/03/2013 08:26

Tiptoeing in with my humble suggestion....... it took me less than one week to turn myself from a sugar-laden, milk-adding coffee drinker to a sugar-free, black coffee girl. Go on - give it a try!! (You'll lose the temptation to spit quite quickly and amaze yourself with how much better the flavour is.) works with tea too :)

Jacaqueen · 06/03/2013 08:32

Morning all.

Sorry I am being so rubbish at posting. Spending a lot of time with MIL helping her get rid of some of FIL's clothes etc. Also trying to get my own house in order before the work starts on our much awaited extension.

I have sts this week. The scales keep fluctuating by a few pounds but are refusing to drop below 11st 12. I will not be beaten though. I will just keep at it and maybe this week I will get a nice whoosh. Feeling good at the moment and some of the clothes I bought at the end of January are getting loose which is great.

I have really cut back on dairy, still having too much alcohol though so I will work on that one.

Again apologies for not keeping up with the thread so I will just send hugs to those that need them and congratulations to those with something to celebrate.

PennyHofstadter · 06/03/2013 09:18

Good morning, well after emotionally induced pizza madness on Monday I'm still feeling shockingly rough today. My stomach feels like a balloon and I'm so uncomfortable.

I was good yesterday; eggs in butter for breakfast, some ham slices with egg mayo for lunch (1.2g of carbs per 100g), snack was pork scratchings and steak with cabbage, brocolli and a blue cheese sauce (just blue cheese melted into some double cream) for dinner so I can only assume its the gluten/wheat in the pizza that's still having an effect. Somebody pop me!

EwanHoozami · 06/03/2013 09:23

I converted a taxi driver to LC last night. He was bemoaning how his wife was making him eat cottage cheese and Ryvita (apparently it is the 70's in their house Grin ) so I told him about steak cooked in butter and he dutifully wrote down the title of the Briffa book!

Heh heh.

yesterday...

B: Lidl yog
L: spinach omelette
D: Hake in hollandaise sauce with samphire (out at a Loch Fyne - yum)
s: teaspoon of peanut butter and some pork scratchings

theearlybird I really need to switch to black coffee but I find instant black gag-worthy and can't be faffed with cafetiere. Do you know an instant that tastes decent black?

WillieWaggledagger · 06/03/2013 09:25

Lol Ewan you crusader!

BlackAffronted · 06/03/2013 09:27

Ohhh Ewan, I have always wanted to try samphire!

TheEarlyBird · 06/03/2013 09:41

Ah Ewan - that may be the flaw in my argument. I only drink proper coffee - one of the features of living in foreign lands! Just two injections shots a day and I'm set for nearly anything.

littlermissstan · 06/03/2013 10:06

Can someone remind me of the roasted red cabbage recipe? Going to try it with pork chops tonight, normally would braise it but fancy a change and can't be faffed with too many pans :)

BIWI · 06/03/2013 10:12

Welcome, crazycatlady

I really, really, really don't like black coffee. But I also realise that it's probably stubbornness that makes me say that. Possibly also a bit of an addiction going on there?

But I also have to remind myself that I have lost 2 stones whilst still drinking the stuff, so it's probably not that much of a problem!

However, I think Ubercamp is probably a good thing to try out and just see the impact of cutting out both the caffeine and the dairy. I certainly need to do something to get myself back on track. I have one more family birthday coming up - DH on 20th - but obviously have a couple of weeks before that, so I really want to take myself in hand and finally get shot of the weight I've put back on since December.

OP posts:
TheEarlyBird · 06/03/2013 10:18

Definitely an addiction :) - but I do control my inner caffeine beast 99% of the time and am a strictly 2 times a day girl. Oh-er vicar!

IShallWearMidnight · 06/03/2013 11:38

thanks for all your good wishes for DD - she came home yesterday, don't really know what the problem was/is, but hey ho.

Anyway, I was actually reasonably good with hospital food - at lunch there was a salad bar with different protein options separately so I had salad leaves, cucumber, coleslaw and one day egg, the next cheese. Dinner was trickier as I had to choose between a sandwich, macaroni cheese or bean & veg curry with rice. I had the curry, but only ate half of it. There may have been chocolate and crisps as well though Blush, but I'm not beating myself up about it, as I know I'm still in the "dealing with sugar addition" phase, and it was't just eating cos I was bored.

But I'm off for a couple of days for a client meeting and food is going to be tricky - two nights on a sleeper train with the complimentary breakfast being cereal and fruit juice (plus coffee and pastries at the station on the way back) followed by a girly lunch out, followed by a family child friendly tea. I'll do the best I can - the second morning will be OK as it's back to London so I can either find a cafe for a cooked breakfast, or just come straight home, but tomorrow I'm not sure I'll find anywhere open for breakfast. Lunch should be OK though.

Onwards and upwards though, the weight took a long time to get to this level, it will take a while to get off, and to retrain my brain.

BIWI · 06/03/2013 11:58

Glad your DD is home.

Don't sweat it - if it's circumstances you can't control, there's not much you can do. However, you could always take a little cool bag with you, and buy some ham/cooked meats, or take some hard-boiled eggs. If you can find an M&S Food outlet at the station, you can buy handy stuff there - they do make some salads without pasta/noodles/rice/potatoes - although you have to look hard! They also do individual portions of cheese, which come in very handy, as well as prawns/cooked meats, etc.

Does anyone know hat Zoe Harcombe has against mushrooms. Doesn't allow them in her Phase 1 at all Confused

Anyway

B Coffee with cream then 30g cheese at 10:00 when I felt hungry.
L smoke salmon, rocket salad, 30g cheese ( no more cheese today), guacamole and mayo.
D....probably pork chop again with buttered cabbage,

Have been Pepsi Max free for nine days now and cravings all gone.Smile

JakeBullet · 06/03/2013 12:19

Projected carbs today is 8 Smile.... And no way would I follow the Harcombe diet....although she is rig about the low carb thing.

BIWI · 06/03/2013 12:34

I think it's probably to do with them being a fungus, and fungal stuff isn't great for candida - there are three conditions that she puts at the root of weight gain - candida, food intolerances an hypoglycaemia.

I think you need to eat more veg/carbs than 8g - it isn't enough! But glad you've cracked the Pepsi Max addiction

OP posts:
Bessie123 · 06/03/2013 12:42

Hmm, I think I suffer from all 3 of Zoe Harcombe's baddies. I have a horrible headache today, I think it might be carb withdrawal after my weekend binge. Or a sinus infection Grin

JakeBullet · 06/03/2013 12:47

I actually think I have my combo wrong BIWI, what are the ratios I should be aiming for?

At the mo it's 78% fat Shock

Will up the veg tonight and have mushrooms, and broccoli too.
