Week 9 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - Nearly there ...

BIWI · 04/03/2013 07:49

So we enter the last two weeks of Bootcamp. Still time to drop another 2-4lbs!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to come and confess all.

Remember, at the bottom of the spreadsheet is a tab for Ubercamp, if you fancy three strict days.

Good luck!

quicklookbusy have you got the Low carb Gourmet book? The sounds like one of the recipes in it. I am trying the Thai chicken bundles from that book tonight

I have a snacking habit - when at work only - it's a deeply ingrained habit. I snack on nuts and cheese and bring in LC pancakes or muffins sometimes - I always eat what I bring even if not hungry. I am thinking of doing the leptin reset thing but it's a bit daunting.

shortbread sounds lovely (perfect for snacking!)

Yama · 10/03/2013 07:35

Morning everyone. My turn to get up early with the dc. At least ds wasn't up in the night (he was sick yesterday).

Scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast.

MaryBeard - I find snacking doesn't make a big difference unless it's dairy. I cut down the dairy the other day and achieved a whoosh. A whoosh while drinking a glass or two of red wine and a few handfuls of nuts in the evening.

MaryBeardfanclub · 10/03/2013 07:44

BIWI you are right that thread explains the obesity epidemic neatly. I read the other day that 3 out of 5 mums do not know how to make a roast dinner - that's one thing I am trying to learn, always do the gravy late and veg is cold atm.

It's astonishing how we as a generation have been fooled into thinking all that c**p in the supermarkets is food, makes me Angry and Sad I hate to see chubby kids, it's child abuse

JakeBullet · 10/03/2013 07:45

I am now desperate to try tge parmesan shortbread recipe.....just need cayenne pepper and parnesan.

Its Sunday todau and that means roast dinner at my parents.....and I will be having some potatoes today and will enjoy them.Smile

MaryBeardfanclub · 10/03/2013 07:46

I mean the govt letting manufacturers adulterate our food is abuse and stopping home ec classes at school so we cant cook

I was giving my dcs those fromage frais things last year thinking they were a good cheap nutritious snack!! Confused

BlackAffronted · 10/03/2013 07:48

Just had my BAB - bacon & egg cups :) Slice of streaky bacon placed in a muffin tray to make a sort of cup, then an egg & cheese mix dropped in, oven baked for 20 minutes = very yummy! Ate 4 of them Grin

Have been given a teeny bar of 85% dark choc from my wee boy for Mothers day, its 19 carbs per 100g, so will only have a tiny bit a day. Also got some lovely pastel nail varnishes! DH knew to steer the kids towards non-food items this year.

Planning on making a cucumber salad thing for lunch, cucumber, wine vinegar, mayo and dill all mixed together. Will have it with some salad leaves and something proteiny. Dinner tonight is roast chicken, celeriac fondant and buttered savoy cabbage.

BlackAffronted · 10/03/2013 07:50

Jake, are you really sure you want to possibly for-go weightloss this week just for the sake of a potato? A couple of potatoes could knock you out of ketosis.

BlackAffronted · 10/03/2013 07:53

Home ec at my daughters school is a joke :( One lesson was milkshake - milk & powdered milkshake stuff! Another was french bread pizza, made with pre-grated cheese & a jar of pizza sauce. Whats that teaching them? certainly not cooking! Luckily I teach mine to cook at home, my 10 year old just made herself an omlette and bacon for her breakfast :)

halfthesize · 10/03/2013 07:56

Brew Good morning and Happy Mothers Day Thanks
off to catch up on thread Wink

MaryBeardfanclub · 10/03/2013 07:59

black wow that is shocking - is that the curriculum? My ds1 is very interested in cooking so hopefully he will sustain that interest (he's 4) - I love it so will hopefully pass on some enthusiasm.

QuickLookBusy · 10/03/2013 08:03

Hi everyone, I'm having a lie in as my 2dds are still asleep- it's great having teenagers!!

Yes Mary, the recipe is from The Gourmet Low Carb. I got it this week as I was getting bored of roasted or boiled veg. There's some lovely recipes.

DD1 is making roast lunch today and dd2 is insisting on making a chocolate cake. I haven't baked or bought anything sweet for weeks and I think it's more for her than meWink Shes made the concession that it's a flourless one so at least it's a bit lower in carbs.

thekitchenfairy · 10/03/2013 08:13

Hello everyone

Hope you all had a good week and enjoying a lovely weekend.

I am at .mIL all weekend not my fave place but the DS are being taken off for some lovely long walks dso have been catching up on this weeks thread while I prep and cook lots of lovely LC food for us all. Some fab stories this week.

Jake... Stay away from the potatoes... Stay away from the potatoes!! Coming to the end of the 10 wk programme I have been really enthused and inspired by the way you jumped into this... Ad with such fab results. It's only a spud. You can eat one again... But if you do it today you will probably gain in the morning which would be such a shame after all your success... Especially comquering the crisp addiction!

Happy Mothers Day ladies, may you all be spoiled with lots of non food goodies Thanks

LavenderBriggs · 10/03/2013 08:14

Morning all. I've read some of the other threads on Diet and they're scary. This thread is a tiny oasis of calm (and huge buttery breakfasts Grin).

I have fully bought into the BAB and had one on Friday. Great big breakfast of eggs, buttery mushrooms and Black Farmer sausages. I didn't feel the need to eat again until around 3pm. I feel as if I want to eat less - I used to chose the most filing option, then plan a pudding. Now I just want to eat enough. My poor body, it's had to wait this long for me to listen to it.

I've weighed myself this morning and I'm 9 stone 5 - another pound off after my BAB Smile. And another half inch off my waist. The thought of eating 30g of crappy cereal seems like a horrible practical joke now.

Black - the school thing is awful. How can we have any hope if children are taught to use jars? We used to make pastry and sauces - how can it be more difficult to do that in 2013 than it was in 1981?

Spilt - cheese and crackers are DH's favourite thing to eat. He will be baking very soon and passes thanks on to your DH.

Lavender Hope work problems get sorted soon Thanks

thekitchenfairy · 10/03/2013 08:30

Oh those crackers sound divine!

And WOW.... 47 stone off between us!! That is amaze balls, what a brilliant result.

Well don everyone Grin

JakeBullet · 10/03/2013 08:46

Okay.....I will step away from the potatoes. ....its only one day though and tbh I had them last Sunday with no desire to eat them tbe rest of the week Grin I went straight back to low carb after lunch.
I think I am keeping Briffa in mind that "if every Friday night is pizza night then keep it yhat way; its what you do most of the time which counts".

Anyway, have had yoghurt and a splash of cream for breakfast and....I am SO going to make that shortbread. Sounds a worthy replacement for bread in DS's lunchbox. Making satay chicken for him today to replace processed stuff.Smile

Bessie123 · 10/03/2013 09:04

Oops, just flashed the window cleaner with a full frontal Blush. I came out the shower with no towel round me and he was cleaning my bedroom window. Oh dear.

prettybird · 10/03/2013 09:31

I'm sure he's seen worse! Grin

halfthesize · 10/03/2013 10:53

Grin @ Bessie

WillieWaggledagger · 10/03/2013 11:00

Jake briffa's advice is good but it does slightly depend on how much weight you have to lose, how your body reacts and your own mentality. If you are at goal, it's almost certainly the right attitude. If you are trying to get rid of that last pesky half stone, you probably need to be quite strict. If you have lots of weight to lose it can go two ways - either you follow briffa but accept you might have a slower weight loss (aka taking the scenic route), or, if you're the sort of person who is easily derailed or prefers a stricter WOE then you avoid the cheats - because after all you have to keep going longer term and it needs to work for you.

WillieWaggledagger · 10/03/2013 11:02

Though quite a few people have found that briffa's advice is bet for maintenance than weight loss

timidviper · 10/03/2013 11:21

I think willie is right that it is very variable according to your body, mentality, etc.

I have adopted a "cheat now and again" approach which means I never feel deprived and am learning that a lot of the stuff I have craved on other diets really isn't all that nice, so my urges to cheat will diminish in time. There are already some foods I'd have killed for on SW that I can look at now and feel nothing. Some people may even find that the odd cheat gives them a kick start as it resets leptin levels and stops you slipping into a starvation mode.

Having said that, you have to be able to resist any cravings you have afterwards. Ultimately do what is right for you and don't get hung up on any of it!

Ruprekt · 10/03/2013 11:39

Just eaten 2 eggs, bacon and sausage. Fills me up for a while.

captainmummy · 10/03/2013 11:42

I can second the BAB - i had bacon eggs and a pile of fried-in-butter mushrooms yeaterday, then spent the day demolishing DPs kitchen and clearing it up. I ate again at 5pm! Not to say i wasn't a bit peckish at about 230, but worked through it and really, really not starving ...
Interesting Article, BIWI.

FurryDogMother · 10/03/2013 11:48

Roast lamb for us today - slathered with garlic and rosemary, lemon and cinammon, wrapped up in a big sheet of foil and baked until it's falling off the bone :) Going to have it with mangetout and green beans with mint, and spuds on the side for DH.

That'll be this evening, so will keep myself going with my BAB of fried eggs, mushrooms and bacon, and then have some home made spinach, courgette and leek soup (just those veggies cooked in chicken stock, then whizzed with a hand blender, dollop of cream stirred into a mug of it) if I get peckish before dinner.

Now I've made myself hungry, so am off to cook the BAB!

BIWI · 10/03/2013 11:57

Jake - please, please, please don't have the roast potatoes! You have done so well in the first two weeks it would be a real shame to see you undo that good work. Honestly, it's not worth it.

I think Briffa's advice is good - but personally I believe that's for when you are at goal/are maintaining - not when you're in the weight loss phase.
