Great losses Chiefs!

Lizzy I bet you're gaining muscle which retains water as it repairs, which is why you might not be seeing much movement on the scales at the moment. Keep at it cause we all know that muscle burns more calories at rest than fat. Hurrah!

BambieO · 12/03/2013 15:03

randall it's just hard work and nothing to do with the fact I ate like a pig, had two or three takeaways a week, half a bottle of wine every night and a share bag if chocolates which has all been cut out Grin

It will slow down now, probably a shock to my system being junk free haha

BambieO · 12/03/2013 15:17

I also did zero exercise and am doing the shred everyday which is making a big difference

DoubleMum · 12/03/2013 15:26

I'm thinking of starting some kind of weight training as I could do that if it didn't involve squats/lunges. Can't afford gym and much too fat to contemplate going to one for a long time yet but am having difficulty finding something I can do at home. I'm sure at first I should be able to use just tins, yes?

OP posts:
BambieO · 12/03/2013 15:38

Yes definitely go with tins, I find the arm exercises hard with weights and I am only using 1.5kg I couldn't physically cope with more!! Blush

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 12/03/2013 16:00

Bambi Cor blimey. Well done.

saint great start - I'm sorry you had to be ill though.

Double Tins or water bottles - I use both to shred. Tis vair glam. I look just like Jillian not. I think most routines on the internet will involving lunging and squatting unfortunately - I've just had a quick look for you.

There are a number of options:

  1. you could do is miss out those lunging and squatting "sets" and just go for it - the only thing to watch for is if you're lifting weights on some muscles but not exercising others you could be prone to injury - but I think you could probably get away with a short period of time of getting your body going this way
  2. a trip to your doctors might be an option ... I don't know whether you're as old as me but I've just had a health check and one of the discussions I had with my practice nurse is whether I qualified for a free 12 week membership of a gym - though you might want to do that a bit later. There are also community health champions in my area who run activities for people to take place in that aren't in the gym and are low impact. You could get referred to them.
  3. Asking your local college or gym whether they've got someone doing an apprenticeship or training to be a trainer. They have to do assessments of people and pull together a programme that's suitable for them. My neighbour did mine for free a couple of years ago when she was training and it was really useful at the point I was very a bit Blush to have my arse blocking the sun wobbling in a gym.

Incidentally, a lot of weight training can be done at home without "weights" but using your own body for resistance training. Silly little things like jumping up and down on the spot. Stepping up on the stairs. Doing the plank. Push ups. They all burn calories. The thing is to remember to start with two of each and then build up one day at a time.

I've got hockey this evening but it's so cold I can hardly move my fingers to type.

BambieO · 12/03/2013 16:03

Hockey must be fabulous exercise zena tea, I wish I could do something like that.

I would love to start swimming but I'm so conscious of my mummy tummy at the moment :( hopefully by summer I will have blitzed most of it.

DoubleMum · 12/03/2013 16:16

Thanks both. I think I'd definitely like to lose (a lot) more weight before going to a gym. I can't do anything that involves getting on the floor etc as I can't bend my knees enough to get down or up. I'd love that to change as I lose weight but I don't know if it will, generally the surgeon says wherever your knees are a year after the replacement, that's where they stay, but I know that my knees have improved after that year.
The Dcs are getting the Wii Fit out now for me!

OP posts:
BambieO · 12/03/2013 16:23

It's very hard when you have the motivation but you can't physically do some things :( have you thought about swimming at all?

DoubleMum · 12/03/2013 16:30

Swimming involves being half naked in public!!
Also I cannot really swim.
This sounds like I'm just making excuses, I am going to do something, honestly! Thwarted at this moment as one of the Wiimotes is missing and the other isn't making anything happen.

OP posts:
BambieO · 12/03/2013 17:00

Haha that's exactly why I don't go swimming Blush

dinkydoos · 12/03/2013 19:19

Hello chiefs, some marvellous losses from you lot. randall was impressed you pulled that out of the bag even after your little holiday!
double you've done so well, would prob also recommend evil Jillian, but ignore the lunges etc as Tea suggests.
On paper I could put down 45 minutes tennis today followed by 45 minutes of swimming... However seeing as it was with a 5 and 7 year old it's more like 30 mins max of anything worthwhile!
Chicken roasting in oven along with butternut squash, parsnip and carrot, all roasted. With spring cabbage to tick the 'green' box. Have a glass of red, so all well with the world .. Until I fast tomorrow Grin

kerala · 12/03/2013 19:24

Nearly lost a stone! Trousers all bagging out though will have to go shopping...

I used to eat what I wanted but since Jan 12th have cut out snacks, porridge for breakfast, soup and ryvita for lunch, dinner on a smaller plate. And exercise most days. Seem stuck at my weight though.

DoubleMum · 12/03/2013 19:31

Well done Kerala!

OP posts:
BambieO · 12/03/2013 19:33

Well done! That's amazing, definitely an inspiration :)

Have you tried changing your exercise or maybe adding more/eating less calories?

Lizzylou · 12/03/2013 19:55

Well done Bambie and Kerala! Smile

Have done a Mega Abs blast class tonight. Speed situps and other torturous things.

Double, I have a 10minute solution toning DVD that you are very welcome to if you want to PM me your address? I love the 10min solution dvds, fab way to build up your fitness and stamina.

BsshBossh · 12/03/2013 20:04

Well done kerala!

Double I'd have thought walking at a brisk pace would be a good one. Is that possible for you? You only need to walk at a pace where you get a bit red in the face, a bit warm, can feel your heart beating a bit harder.

DoubleMum · 12/03/2013 20:52

Lizzy that's very kind, am afraid I don't know how to send a PM though, have only replied to them! Blush
Bssh yes I can -and should- do that. DS found the other Wiimote tonight so I will attempt a bit of that tomorrow.

Hello fellow chiefs! Having lain low following weight gain I am now 1lb lighter and down to just below 65kg. I might make sub 10st by summer.
I am trying to build up though with NMTZ twice a week with the aim of completing at least 5 circuits. Have done it all On 5kg for the first time last week and managed to do the squat and press and the sumo squats on 8kg.
Having said that does anybody know anyone who sells metal dumbells -preferbl the ones with plates as I want a set that doesn't take up muc weight. I haven't anything between 5kg and 8kg and it's a bit of a PITA
BTW weightless isnst so fast but I certainly feel firmer even though it's only week2. In the meantime on the non NMTZ it's a mixuture of Shred and Killer with 3 days off.

Tabbykat · 13/03/2013 08:49

Morning! Congrats to all those with losses/looser trews!

I have a quick MFP question about logging exercise. Some of you have entries that say X did 35 mins of y, including 10 mins of z - how do I do this? And does it then calculate calories according? Eg if I go for a 40 min walk, but do 15 mins running as part of it, do I write 25 mins walk and 15 mins run in the same entry?? And will MFP work out the increased calorie burn for that 15 mins of running or just count it as 40 mins walking? Does that even make sense??

Hope somebody more intelligent than me can help!!

BambieO · 13/03/2013 09:06

I'm not sure tabby I am lazy and do one exercise at a time but someone will definitely know

I am on MFP feel free to add me username tinamcbeana

Lizzylou · 13/03/2013 09:12

Tabby, yes, log all exercise individually, it will allow for increased burn.

So on Parkrun days I do 30 minutes running and 15 minutes walking (to get to and from start/finish line!), which I log individually and it gives me 350 cals for the run and say 75 cals for the walk (rough figures, but you know what I mean!).

Well done Geek!

Double, have pmed you Smile

SylviaDaisyPouncer · 13/03/2013 09:14

Morning everyone!

Don't think I've posted for a few days, been feeling under the weather and Asthma has been horrendous (bloomin cold weather) so not much exercise going on. Going to get well and start C25k as soon as I can.

tabby I would log walking and running separately but there are probably more experienced Chiefs on here who will be better help! When I log exercise eg walking pushing buggy for 30 mins it works the calories out. Just keep adding everything you do!

Well done everyone on their losses, some great work going onGrin

I resisted a binge yesterday, got all the yummy bits out of the fridge then put them back. I didn't want to go on mfp and show you all how bad I had been! Neither do I want to be fat anymore. As I survived the night without starving it just shows I didn't need it!

Don't think I have everyone on mfp. If anyone else wants to add me I'm SDPouncer.

Also have managed not to weigh mid week/ every morning. I am getting a little twitchy wondering if I have lost. Going to hold out until Friday and hope to have lost at least a pound, then I will have lost 10lb altogether.

Have a great day everyone!

BambieO · 13/03/2013 09:17

Have just added you SDP

That's brilliant! I am sure you will have lost that pound.

And massive kudos on resisting the binge! It's so hard, you did really well :)

Tabbykat · 13/03/2013 09:24

Cheers Lizzy and SPD! Will attempt 2nd time of C25K later and as there's running and walking I'll try to log it properly instead of all as quick walking like last time. Will plan route better as well as last time had got to end of the session as was nowhere near where I'd left the car to get back home and had to walk extra half km!
