Week 7 - New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - Where We Get Tough!

Morning campers

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

This week sees the start of Ubercamp. This is entirely optional, by the way!

The idea is that we have three very strict days, keeping our carbs under 20g each day and consuming no dairy.

If you want to take part, I have put together three days' worth of meals as a guide - one which includes eggs and one which is an egg-free plan for those of you who don't like eggs. I'll also do one today which is purely fish-based.

As well as the meal plans, I've also written shopping lists and some recipes, where necessary, and the lovely Willie has put these on the spreadsheet - just look at the tabs at the bottom.

Welcome Jake Grin

I am definitely doing UberBootcamp starting Monday! Will need it after my weekend. Its a hotel/wine/dine dea, so I have to eat whatever is on the menu that night - usually a choice of 3 starters, mains & puddings that change daily. I know that a cheese board is always a pudding option, so will have that. There is usually either fish or chicken meal, with veg & potatoes. Will just leave the potatoes. Last year, there was chicken in tarragon cream sauce, so that would be perfect! Starters were things like smoked salmon (leave the bread) soup etc. Will be drinking vodka & diet coke (just cant handle soda & lime, its vile). So hopefully the damage will be limited! Its a huge hot & cold buffet for breakfast, so a ton of options - bacon, eggs, mushrooms, cold meats, cheese etc.

Just applied to college! To do a full time course starting this september when my youngest goes to school

WillieWaggledagger · 21/02/2013 13:21

they're not my sort of thing i have to admit, i don't like anything that is 'sausage-y' and processed ham and salami come under that category!

Iamaslummymummy · 21/02/2013 13:54

Hi all

Just catching up on the thread. Really liked biwis explanation today. Stress, meds, yoghurt. Yep....

Have just booked a doctors appointment. my depression isn't under control atm. I'm not eating any banned foods. Just too much of the allowed foods, cream, yogurt.....

Half term with me and my health conditions, ds and his aspergers and a mad rescue puppy are not a good combinationGrin

thatgirlsevil · 21/02/2013 13:55

I haven't checked in for so long and I'm only just reading about "ubercamp"...sounds hardcore and I'm thinking I might have a go of it next week.

I'm pleased to report that I'm almost 16 lbs off as of Monday just gone...and I feel rather fabulous.

I have to admit that I've been having a few cups of tea with Splenda these past few days which I know is a no-no, but I've been really struggling with my water intake lately as I've had a godawful flu for over a FORTNIGHT and the cups of tea have been a mild comfort to me. Aside from that I've been really good and I think my biggest achievement is in completely cutting down my alcohol intake. I've already planned ahead and I'm going to allow myself 4 Coors light NEXT weekend (roughly 20g carbs) and go tee-total until then. During December I was drinking red wine 2-4 days a week and up to 8 12oz beers at the weekend Shock which was a ridiculous amount now I think about it.

The ubercamp menus sound absolutely delicious btw. Great work BIWI.

Iamaslummymummy · 21/02/2013 13:55

I'm not doing ubercamp but am cutting dairy for 3 days to see what happens.

BIWI · 21/02/2013 14:11

Hurrah to see you posting, BlackAffronted - I think we were all worried that we'd scared you off!!! And really well done on the college thing - great idea. Good luck with it!

Jake - welcome to Bootcamp. No need to count carbs as long as you follow Bootcamp rules. But Ruprekt is right to say that it's probably around 20-30g carbs per day, rather than 100g.

It's a difficult way of eating at first, and you're going to have to believe us when we tell you it works! Basically you will be doing everything that you have been told not to do! Embrace fat, stop buying low fat and diet foods - eat cheese, butter and cream.

Be prepared to feel a bit rubbish about 2-3 days in, probably for a couple of days. This is, unfortunately, quite normal and indicates your withdrawal from carbs/sugar. Make sure that you drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fat and keep your sodium/potassium and magnesium levels up - good foods to eat are avocado, spinach and salmon. Also make sure that you get plenty of salt.

thatgirlsevil Thanks brilliant! No wonder you feel good!

at least half term is nearly finished for you, hopefully then you will be able to concentrate on yourself a bit more?

Ruprekt · 21/02/2013 15:05

Feel raring to go with it now.

littlermissstan · 21/02/2013 17:20

Ugh, may have just ruined uber camp with a little mini Cadbury dairy milk egg pressed upon me by a colleague :(

BlackAffronted · 21/02/2013 17:37

Im popping back in quickly to ask, can eating carbs cause an itchy rash? Since I ate high carbs the other day, my face has come out in an itchy bumpy feeling across my face. Its so bad today Ive had to take piriton! Is it carb related or something else do you think?

Ruprekt · 21/02/2013 17:56

Dunno Black, but tell yourself it is and that will stop u carb bingeing!!

BIWI · 21/02/2013 18:00
Grin

Oh yes, carbs give you the plague ...

Being serious, it depends what you ate? It could be something that you have some kind of allergic reaction to, which has been made more sensitive by cutting it out of your diet? But I'm only guessing. I'll see what I can find out.

OP posts:
BIWI · 21/02/2013 18:02

Yep - it could be carbs causing it

What foods did you eat that you've not been eating recently?

OP posts:
BlackAffronted · 21/02/2013 18:03

I had a burger & chips the other day, and it started a few hours after that ....

BIWI · 21/02/2013 18:04

In a bun? What else was in the burger?

Could very well be a wheat allergy then. Have you ever had anything like it before?
