A thread for all those wanting support and advice for using mfp website and app. Welcome to everyone new and those of us that have been around a while Hmm

OP posts:
Newrowsees · 15/05/2013 13:01

I only downloaded the app last week and am addicted already!

What's the etiquette re. adding people as friends, if their user names are mentioned in the thread - is it a free for all, or should one ask to be personally invited? Wouldn't mind the inspiration, as I'm tending to eat the same thing over and over again, because I know it's 'safe'.

I have 10lbs to lose before I go back to work after maternity leave in a few weeks. That, or I buy a whole new wardrobe, and I hate shopping with a passion!

awaywego1 · 15/05/2013 13:49

Feel free to add me awaywego1 although I am being far from inspirational at the moment Grin

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 15/05/2013 14:39

Feel free to add me too - HannahT78. You might get bored of seeing me going spinning though!

Good luck with losing it - how many weeks do you have left of maternity leave?

Chopstheduck · 15/05/2013 14:48

Newrowsees I think it is pretty much a free for all, its a really friendly bunch here, and a fantastic support and inspiration on MFP!

My username is the same on here as MFP, I think I've added everyone mentioned, if not feel free!

I have been starving today. This weather is really getting to me, don't feel like going out much apart from running, and couldn't really run for the third day on the trot. So stayed home and did shred instead!

Newrowsees · 15/05/2013 14:51

Thanks HT! I've got just under a month left, and I'm swinging between being devastated and half looking forward to the break from my exhausting toddler plus baby combo!
And great job on the spinning - the one time I tried it I nearly lost consciousness!

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 15/05/2013 14:59

10lbs in 4 weeks seems doable. Boring, but doable Wink

Do you get much exercise in? I can't stick to my calories if I don't train!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 15/05/2013 15:30

I'm really struggling this week just can't keep under my calories. I've started a new pill after a 20 week period on the last one Hmm and I have never been so ravenous! It's like being pregnant again!

Feel free to add me, I don't think anyone minds.

Newrowsees · 15/05/2013 15:58

I've been doing a mix of squash, cross-trainer, some light weights (machines at the gym) and the 30 Day Shred DVD for the last few days. Ideally I'd do something every day, but I now have a non-napping toddler and a bottle-refusing baby who's decided he likes to stay up late so I'm not as consistent as I'd like.

Chops, what level of the Shred are you on, and what weights are you using? I should probably invest in some proper weights rather than using beer cans (which are liable to explode and leave your living room smelling like a brewery, FYI!) :)

As added motivation I've also signed up to do a Race for Like 10K in June, so I'll need to work in some more running as well. Hope that's not over-ambitious!

amigababy · 15/05/2013 18:00

I'm really struggling to exercise. I've no reason not to but I can find every excuse under the sun why I'll do it tomorrow instead. I was better when I had an online personal trainer 2 years ago but can't afford her now and lack all motivation. feel like calling an amnesty on myself with it till June. and try and find some new approach

awaywego1 · 15/05/2013 18:09

Amiga-it's great to exercise if you can obviously but I can't for health reasons and am still losing (slowly!) so it's still possible to lose without it. I don't feel deprived atall- I always have a couple of days a week where I go over and it's still been ok.

awaywego1 · 15/05/2013 18:10

Also the only exercise I do occasionally manage is a bit of walking and it really helps and doesn't feel too much like exercise Smile

Chopstheduck · 15/05/2013 19:25

Newrowsees tbh I only do level 1 and once in a blue moon. I only use two 750ml water bottles for weights, though loving the beer idea! Grin

I cycle a lot, walk, run, and go to the gym sporadically as well. I've just started a beginners half marathon in 16 weeks training schedule. I get bored quite easily so prefer to be outdoors really. The shred is just for days when I can't get out of the house because I've sat in front of candy crush too long for whatever reason.

amigababy · 15/05/2013 19:45

I do enjoy walking, in fact I enjoy a lot of things but I've lost my mojo to get started.

probably over thinking it tbh, should adopt the Nike slogan and just do it!

cinnamongreyhound · 15/05/2013 21:18

I think generally people just add but write from Mn in the message bit newrosesees. How much can you run now? It seems to come to some easier than others. Took me a while to build up to 10k but I can now do a just under hour 10k (well before I injured myself I'm back over an hot at the moment!).

I agree ledk its about changing how you eat whether it be volume or why you are eating it. 2 slices of pizza is good, that's what I eat generally now but would have had more than dh before.

I highly recommend the c25k amigababy if getting out is easy for you and you don't have lots of pennies. I did it last jan and got totally addicted to running!

OP posts:
Ledkr · 15/05/2013 21:23

I went over a bit but was under last few days so not bothered. I think I did ok considering I'm shattered. I'm in bed now so hoping she sleeps cos I've got work. I've retained this weight from pregnancy due to her non sleeping. It's no coincidence I've been losing since she has been sleeping better

Newrowsees · 16/05/2013 15:19

Ta cinnamon - I've added lots of people now!

And I can run 3 or 4K on the treadmill (slowly), but I find I start getting bored really quickly, so can't make it anywhere near 10K. Am hoping it'll be easier when I'm running outdoors with a friend - we've agreed to take cheeky breaks and walk for a bit if needed. Definitely won't be coming in under an hour - well done you!

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 16/05/2013 17:22

Don't get despondent if when you go out on the roads it's really tough and you don't make it as far as a km, newrowsees - running on the roads is harder as you need to generate the forward momentum rather than having the road surface move to you. It builds up quickly though, and you'll be flying along in no time. A run/walk schedule is fine - just make sure you start running again when you're supposed to Wink

I run 8/walk 2 when I race (I do the odd half marathon) and find I can keep that going for ages. DH did run 9/walk 1 at the London marathon and did 3.39 (fairly speedy) so it's not going to make you that much slower than if you run all the way. Enjoy it!

Newrowsees · 17/05/2013 10:57

Thanks for the tips HT, I'll definitely give the 8:2 strategy a try when I next run - it might even spur me on to carry on for longer!

I'm loving MFP, and having friends on there gives it a whole new dimension - I do hope I'll stick with it when I'm back at work though. Does anyone on here work full-time and still keep their food diary up to date?

cinnamongreyhound · 17/05/2013 16:59

I work fulltime Newrowsees but I'm a childminder so working from home. At the moment I'm lucky that all of the children I mind sleep for the same 1-1 1/2hrs in the afternoon so I get a break :)

OP posts:
HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 17/05/2013 18:45

May I join you all, please?

I signed up to MFP last week and am finding it so helpful. I've lost 7lb so far and i'm really chuffed. I'd like to lose 4st but it should probably be more like 5 if I'm being totally honest.

However, I've had a crap day, today, wrt food. Work was crazy busy and I ate my mindees' leftover cheese sandwiches Blush because I wasn't organised enough to have planned my lunch before I got to the point of feeling really hungry...which was an hour before I'd be anywhere near my kitchen to make something better. There weren't many left over sarnies so I didn't feel like I'd eaten a proper lunch but when I entered it into MFP it added up to the same as the lunches I've been eating for the last week and a half but was 1/3 of the size Sad.

My aunt just gave me some buns and before I could stop myself, I'd scoffed one with butter on. The rest of the pack are now calling me!

Dinner tonight is last night's leftovers and it didn't taste all that great last night!

I need some motivation to get back on track or a kick up the arse!!!

Newrowsees · 17/05/2013 21:00

Ah what bliss cinnamon, naps are vital for everyone's sanity, aren't they? Nice that you get to plan ahead and cook in your own kitchen too - I'll be working in central London, about an hour from home so will have to investigate healthy options near the office.

And welcome Hiccups, 7lbs in just a week is amazing - keep it up!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 17/05/2013 21:19

Thanks for the welcome Smile

It's actually been nearer two weeks...started eating better last Monday and started MFP last weds or thurs. Have fallen off the wagon today though so am fully expecting to have out some of that back in Sad.

I'm going to read through some more of this thread now, looking for tips on how to keep motivated!

SuzySuzSuz · 18/05/2013 08:42

Hey everyone, feel free to add me, I'm Londonsuz on MFP.

Haven't been tracking at the moment, MIL is in hospital not doing too well so have just been grabbing what we can when hungry. However there are moments when I know I need to get back to tracking and sensible choices as the jeans I bought especially as my 'fat jeans' are getting a little snug.... Blush

Ledkr · 18/05/2013 14:00

It's tough at weekends here. Dh works leaving me with two dds to entertain. We do lots but it invariably means eating out or picnics.
I don't go mad but for example just had a few of their chips and off to a fete in a bit so probably temptation there.
I'm going to log it anyway.

Chubfuddler · 19/05/2013 15:00

Hello MFP types I've only just signed up to mfp. Place marking to read this thread when Dcs are asleep in the meantime of anyone would like to add me in mfp I am chubfuddler same as here. I've list nearly four tribe but half a stone has crept back on. Giving mfp a whirl to try to get 20 pounds off and keep it off.
