I F - 5:2 - 4:3 - Maintaining the healthy weight

TalkinPeace2 · 01/02/2013 16:59

This thread is for those who have been doing IF for quite a while and are now at or nearing their target healthy weight.

How do we experience fasts and balance a stable food intake while having little or no weight to lose?

How to we ensure that this WOE does keep us at the healthy weight long term rather than revert to yoyo games?

I have now been at the same weight for a month. I'm happy with that. I'm also still enjoying the 24 hour fasts because of the clear mindedness I get during them.

How about you?

We all love TiP2 - can't do without her :(

GiraffesEatPineapples · 09/02/2013 01:23

Really shocked to read this... I think TIP made a joke (?) on a thread about education reforms on wednesday and said that she had done the above - maybe someone connected to his wife saw it and comnplained to MNHQ. I hope she can come back or we can join her posting somewhere else?

ThinkICan · 09/02/2013 01:52

frenchfancy - you can be judgmental if you want! It's just all those people who look at you with the 'What's wrong with you? Why can't you be like me and thin?' look that I'm talking about. They seem to say - to paraphrase a 'Sound of Music' movie song: 'Somewhere in your youth or childhood, you must have done something BAD.'

frenchfancy · 09/02/2013 07:51

Oh no, we can't do this without TIP2! I always imagine her being like Jillian Michaels - all beautiful and slim and tells it exactly like it is (whilst shouting 3" from your face of course). I hope she is back soon.

Oh no, really?? Tip v v wise on IF/5:2

Gove's wife is the Times journo. Sarah Vine. Never struck me as a delicate flower from her writing. Bet shes on here tho but how odd! high up connections at MN towers?

BlueGoddess · 09/02/2013 08:40

Sorry chaps, don't know any more than what I posted. She'll be back I'm sure - you can't keep a good woman down! Grin

Salbertina · 09/02/2013 08:51

Sorry but bollox to the GM diet! Sounds awfully unhealthy and utterly cashing in on the mistaken widely-held impression that fruit is "good" for us. Which it is.. In moderation on an occasional basis as it's laden w sugar albeit fruit sugar. Of course you're going to lose weight, but how long for?? Hmm

catsrus · 09/02/2013 09:34

What? TIP banned? What thread was that?

GreenEggsAndNichts · 09/02/2013 09:42

Oh sure, I'm less than a day away from going on holiday and things kick off. Hmm I had a PM informing me that something had happened to TIP, but I admit I'm none the wiser as to the hows and whyfores...

Hopefully it's sorted out soon. To say these threads (and my MN experience in general) wouldn't be the same without her would be an understatement.

Shall send some PMs and get back to last minute packing..

ThinkICan · 09/02/2013 12:52

Have a great holiday GreenEggs. We'll miss you though!

SpiralSkies · 09/02/2013 14:37

I can't imagine TiP2 posting anything inflammatory - she's MN personified!

GreenEggs Have a fab hol. I've been reading the 5:2 threads since the beginning but rarely post so thought I'd say it here: THANK YOU! All the effort you put in is appreciated by far more people than you imagine! Thanks

Laska42 · 09/02/2013 16:52

I'm sure she will sort it out soon,, nothing but resourceful is our girl...We will keep her thread going though for her though.. so if it suddenly disappears (i.e gets pulled) ill repost a new one , so if it does just look out for a note on the main 5:2 board .

i made the lovely beetroot and red cabbage borscht for lunch again today (from an original idea of catsrus) My recipe is on the recipe thread.. Its so yummy and I'm not even on a fast day.. (Lamb tagine in the oven for later.. YUM..

virginposter · 09/02/2013 17:01

greeneggs have a well deserved rest and come back ready and raring to go.
Smile

GreenEggsAndNichts · 09/02/2013 17:07

Thanks ladies :) And that's very kind of you, Spiral. I think it's just a borderline OCD thing I have about wanting the threads to have the main info links so that people have them easily accessible and don't have to chase back through older threads.

And for now, looking forward to some sun!

thinkican just quick as mumsnet seems so slow on the internet connection today.. the GM diet sounds a bit like the old 'cabbage soup diet@ lots of us tried in the 80s. it worked after a fashion because it was calorie restriction, but was so boring it was unsustainable. My main thoughts are that it sounds so restrictive, and that restrictive diets fail because you will rebel against them..

So whilst I wouldn't do it myself now , if you are really stuck and want to shake it up , why not try it for one week only and then go back to 5:2 or 4:3 after

but ill lay £5 to the lifeboat fund that you'll be totally sick of it after a week and wont last through a second !! but yes you may shock your body into losing .some..

Give it a go if it feels right for you right now .. you can always revert back to fasting anytime after .,thats the beauty of this WOE and why so many of us got through christmas reasonably unscathed by the end of January ( and ill lay another £5 that you'll be pleased to come back.. ( its ok .. Its for the lifeboats! ) let us know how it goes Grin

There is a very interesting and positive article at the Daily Mail online written by Jenni Murray, talking about her breast cancer and how she has now found the new '2 day' diet devised by the doctors who did the Genesis research
at the purpose-built Breast Centre at the University Hospital of South Manchester. It's very similar to Dr MM's 5:2 but with no calorie counting. As has already been posted on the other 5:2 thread, fasting has been proven to aid in the prevention of breast cancer.

Hello all! Thanks Laska for pming me - I had seen the thread but as I'm not maintaining yet I thought best to steer clear, but just can't keep up with the old thread, so hope you don't mind me rejoining the oldies group. Been officially doing this since thread 1 but all went to buggery after too many back to back visitors, then Christmas BUT I am back on board! Actually doing ADF for now to get to ideal weight (130lbs - sounds like not much for my height but now I've actually shifted some weight I've realized I have a fairly small frame underneath it all!) by my 30th inMay - and two weeks after that I have this mammoth charity bike ride to do (545miles in 6days, I am petrified) so have to make sure I'm fit not just skinny....

So hello again!

How rubbish about TiP! She's always been outspoken but no more so than anyone else - totally agree with whoever said she's our Jillian Michaels!

Eating day today, chocolate and almond croissants for breakfast, bottomless mimosa brunch later and out for a leaving do tonight so making the most of it!

MrTiP · 09/02/2013 18:24

She is watching you .... and just waiting for MNHQ to reinstate her account Grin

virginposter · 09/02/2013 18:56

mrTiP hope she is back soon.

catsrus · 09/02/2013 19:04

thanks for the update MrTiP we look forward to her return Grin

laska I had a version of the soup made with savoy cabbage today - lol then to see the refs to the cabbage soup diet!

Ive made a beany casserole with lots of veg, including a home grown squash from last year - accidentally put in a tad too much paprika so fingers crossed it's not ruined Sad. The beans were also a bit elderly - well soaked last night and boiled to death before putting them in, but still a bit "firm". more finger crossing!

Aftereightsarenolongermine · 09/02/2013 19:10

Hope tip back soon.

GiraffesEatPineapples · 09/02/2013 19:54

GiraffesEatPineapples · 09/02/2013 20:03
