I F - 5:2 - 4:3 - Maintaining the healthy weight

TalkinPeace2 · 01/02/2013 16:59

This thread is for those who have been doing IF for quite a while and are now at or nearing their target healthy weight.

How do we experience fasts and balance a stable food intake while having little or no weight to lose?

How to we ensure that this WOE does keep us at the healthy weight long term rather than revert to yoyo games?

I have now been at the same weight for a month. I'm happy with that. I'm also still enjoying the 24 hour fasts because of the clear mindedness I get during them.

How about you?

Thanks Laska. The GM diet does look slightly crazy so it's something I might check out just to shake things loose as I am sort of low on motivation now and need a kick! Not looking at it as an alternative to our beautiful WOL though. Will keep you posted on trial, if any. Thanks Mr Tip for letting us know. Waiting for you TiP2.

Aw giraffes that's a lovely welcome back! Grin at GreenShanks

Ugh I am FULL UP! Eating day for sure, though wrote it all down and though I've snacked on crap a lot it's isn't that much good food.

How is everyone who's maintaining doing on eating days now?

AmericasTorturedBrow · 10/02/2013 03:20

Ps I have Shred sat unopened on the shelf....fancy a Shred buddy giraffes?!

BetsyVanBell · 10/02/2013 09:45

Hello, can a I pull up a chair at this table? I wouldn't say I'm at maintenance exactly as frankly it's all so achievable I'm giving myself new targets! Disclaimer: after the weekend of eating I'm having the target I just reached last week (to get to normal bmi) will be a distant memory if I go near the scales, so very much avoiding them til after my second fast day in the coming week...

I looked up Shred - often being bandied around on here and I can see why, I'm going to go for it, am truly disturbed with what's happened to my arse in the last couple of years (age plus weight increase then weightloss I assume Hmm) and running has done nothing to assuage it. Jillian Michaels, do your worst gulp.

Lunch today is Chinese buffet double gulp.

Breadandwine · 10/02/2013 11:28

Hi Betsy and welcome. Smile

Just heard from Piebaldrider - she's promised to post sometime today.

Iwearblack · 10/02/2013 12:24

Hope TiP is back soon. I can't see Sarah Vine taking offence at Gove-bashing - she does it herself enough! And has anyone found ManonBoard?
I go away for 3 days and feel left behind!
Just had a look at the Shred on YouTube - the beginner should be a bit more flabby then the lovely Anita is! It's a bit too hard core for me. I have started the old canadian royal airforce exercises that are much gentler!! As you get older you are given a much lower level to aim for. I am currently at about 10 sit-ups which nearly kills me!
Looking forward to fasting tomorrow as have had far too many takeouts and new flavour chunky kitkats (yey for the chocolate fudge one!) in recent days ...

Laska42 · 10/02/2013 13:10

My shred hasnt arrived yet, so of course (any old excuse )ive not started it! But if we are having a A Shread challenge ill have a go at day one on you tube later on today.

fasting today and 19hrs in.. but about to have some of the borscht (its only just over 11lcals a bowlful) .. but have found a recipe for baked spiced tofu and stir fry veg think so will give it a go as tofu is pretty low in calories (76 per 100g)

cats re cabbage soup (which of course mine a has) the worst thing i remember about that diets was the (ahem) parps.... oh and that i caved spectacularily on several occasions and put it all back on .. Beware ...thinkican !!

AmericasTorturedBrow · 10/02/2013 13:58

Oh god are we really going to start a Shred challenge?! Ok, I'm in...when are we starting, today or tomorrow?

Laska is your borscht recipe on he recipe thread? I have some beetroot languishing in my fridge and its a fast day today (a long one, its only 6am, I've already been up for an hour with DD)

I feel like I'm bingeing on eating days at the moment....not good at all

Laska42 · 10/02/2013 14:42

hi there america (I still want to call you GWTMH!!) yes its on page 2 . Red Cabbage and Beet Borscht.. so you'll also need cabbage , doesnt have to be red though

Laska42 · 10/02/2013 15:16

How about tomorrow? ( says Mrs Procrastinator Grin...I'm too hungry to think about more than 20mins on the rebounder today ) Also my dvd I may have arrived then so can do it in a better space than trying to see it on my laptop on the floor or the desk.

But quite frankly I'm so unfit that I reckon ill find it really hard to start off with , but yes having shred buddies at least means I might be a bit more accountable.....

So who is up for it ?

Me (yup) Betsy? , Giraffe? America? Anyone else?

SpiralSkies · 10/02/2013 15:19

I'm up for it but, er, not tomorrow - dog walking, school run, full day at work, orchestra rehearsal. Gawd. It's rubbish being a grown-up sometimes innit?

Laska42 · 10/02/2013 15:27

just to let you know that Mister T who joined us yesterday is also blocked...

Laska42 · 10/02/2013 15:33

spiral it doesn't have to be a race.so if you are up for it start sometime this week and post , that's what I'm going to do . I'm such a sloth , that ill be happy if i can do it a couple of times a week to start off with! . but at least if there's a few of us then we can chat and encourage each other..

I'm already thinking bikini!!. well thinking of my wrinkly 55yr old skin n one after losing all this weight ,(sorry to give you that horrible thought .. too much information there) if I can tone some of that up for my June holiday in the suns ill be happy

SpiralSkies · 10/02/2013 15:38

That sounds good to me then Laska. Bikini eh? You go girl!

Laska42 · 10/02/2013 15:49

Bear ooh look.. I saw giraffes bear up there and wondered how you did it , you just type bear inside [ ] what else is there?

BetsyVanBell · 10/02/2013 16:20

Well I've ordered my shred dvd today but when it arrives I'm up for it! Bikini wearing in the summer is definitely a good incentive yikes.

Didn't over-indulge at the Chinese Buffet and did eat mainly delicious veg-based dishes so feeling less horrified at the idea of a weigh in next week. Of course, there is the rest of the Orange cake to eat... not sure I'll be able to fast tomorrow knowing it's there. Also I think I'd like to try and adapt the recipe so its got less sugar in, I reckon it could be halved without any effect on the overall taste.

virginposter · 10/02/2013 16:56

Well cat and dog don't work, I wonder why bear does?
Thanks for the tip about the orange cake and sugar, I'm going to try it this week and will reduce the sugar.

frenchfancy · 10/02/2013 17:01

I think it is the mumsnet pombear Bear

BetsyVanBell · 10/02/2013 17:05

Virgin I did also drizzle the cake in a honey, citrus, zest & calvados syrup so actually made it sweeter than it would have been anyway Wink. Also I sprinkled the top with almond flakes before baking which I'd highly recommend. Was excellent Grin!

AmericasTorturedBrow · 10/02/2013 17:27

Ok you're on Laska, tomorrow is a good day for me to start, DS at preschool and Monday's generally feel like good days to start these things. Are you supposed to do it every day?!

Rubbish about MrT, shall we stage a revolt to allow TiP just back on our thread?

AmericasTorturedBrow · 10/02/2013 17:29

Betsy can you post your low sugar orange cake recipe? We have a glut of oranges in our garden and I'm trying to do healthier cakes for the DC

GiraffesEatPineapples · 10/02/2013 18:01

What a shame about Mr t :(

Def up for shred buddies America Grin Glad we are starting tomorrow laska, procrastination suits me! been overindulging in cava at a party so ordering shred now seems like a good idea but maybe not tomorrow! Bit scared to enter my diary on MFP have def overindulged today.

BetsyVanBell · 10/02/2013 18:17

Americas Recipe is from here, just had another slice to ponder on recipe tweaks - mine came out extremely moist, which although delicious means it's more pudding-y than cake-y iyswim, so I think I'd add a small amount of flour, maybe 2oz, could be a wheat free. Sugar could be reduced I think, especially if adding a syrup drizzle. I used light muscavado rather than caster.

Aftereightsarenolongermine · 10/02/2013 20:07

Not good about TiP we need her back on this thread.

laska I've been on this today which shows bear thing

GiraffesEatPineapples · 10/02/2013 23:18

After 8s I hadn't been back to that thread you linked to, when I was reading the pombear back story just then I started to panic that I had made some kind of swingers reference by including it, phew I wasn't totally off the mark with my Bear anyone! well done on link :)
