I F - 5:2 - 4:3 - Maintaining the healthy weight

TalkinPeace2 · 01/02/2013 16:59

This thread is for those who have been doing IF for quite a while and are now at or nearing their target healthy weight.

How do we experience fasts and balance a stable food intake while having little or no weight to lose?

How to we ensure that this WOE does keep us at the healthy weight long term rather than revert to yoyo games?

I have now been at the same weight for a month. I'm happy with that. I'm also still enjoying the 24 hour fasts because of the clear mindedness I get during them.

How about you?

sorry unfinished sentence dd was talking to me!

Fasting today so far so good and what TIP used to say is true excersis does seem to blunt the appetite! going to probably break fast with an apple and milky tea now (for recovery!)

mumofcrazynamedkids · 13/02/2013 11:05

ok, I've failed, the shred dvd arrived, but I didn't make it to argos yesterday to collect the reserved weights, interestingly i totally forgot and didn't even add the task to my long 'to do' list! so Friday will be the next opportunity to go and get the weights......ok, ok I'm procrastinating...sorry, i will shred Fri, sat, Sun and catch up!

fast day today, finally feeling as slim as I was back in november, so barring TOTM I am hoping for a new loss on the scales tomorrow...fingers crossed.

looking forward to broccoli and stilton soup for lunch, and stir fry for dinner, gonna try laska's peanut butter addition to the stirfry to add some needed flavour.

off to make a chamomile tea, hav a good day all and congrats on all who have shredded!

Laska42 · 13/02/2013 12:01

use cans of beans MOCNK instead of weights oh I am mean! Grin

right ..just off to sandwich brown fried things and cake fest ( conference food)

GiraffesEatPineapples · 13/02/2013 12:24

or no weights mocnk - my arms still hurt the next day { also mean evil cakle mwaha}

frenchfancy · 13/02/2013 12:36

I don't have weights, I'm using cans of coconut milk as beans are too precious round here.

As predicted I didn't get off my arse and run this morning, so I've done it a lunchtime instead. I'll try and shred this evening too.

I've been a good girl and avoided the scales all week. Fast day tomorrow and weigh in on Friday, there better be some movement after all this effort!

mumofcrazynamedkids · 13/02/2013 13:32

damn you all, I was hoping to procrastinate for longer!

ok fast day as it is I will attempt to shred this evening with cans for weights...ggrrrrr!

mumofcrazynamedkids · 13/02/2013 13:34

french you are sounding superbly motivated, I am hoping it rubs off on me!

Aftereightsarenolongermine · 13/02/2013 14:30

Fast day today & dreaming of pizza now. piebald I've had to go gluten free does your company make them by any chance. The one gluten free one I tried wasn't that great.

virginposter · 13/02/2013 14:53

dontcallmehon Well done for managing to maintain. I've always found maintaining to be harder than losing the weight in the first place. A few years back I lost 3 stone with S.W. over 2 years and it took me less than 1 year to put a stone back on!
Love to hear how you do your maintaining Smile

AmericasTorturedBrow · 13/02/2013 15:35

Yes I'm on for Shredding today - my calves are in agony though (it's painful to walk until I loosen up!) so think I need to add in some cool down stretches. I'm going to bike DS to preschool (DD I might leave at home with DH, it's do hard cycling them both!) then come back and Shred in an attempt to deviate hunger

I made DH do it with tins last night!

virginposter · 13/02/2013 15:56

b&w where are you and how are you getting on? Wink

ThinkICan · 13/02/2013 16:00

B & W is winning friends in the fastdiet site!

frenchfancy · 13/02/2013 16:12

OK I'll admit I'm motivated as I'm going to the UK to a family reunion in 10 days and I want people to really notice the difference. I don't want to be the chubby one any more. Going to log off and shred now.

AmericasTorturedBrow · 13/02/2013 16:19

Oh no are we losing everyone to the fastdiet site?

frenchfancy · 13/02/2013 17:18

I'm still here.

I'm shredded. When does it stop hurting?

Breadandwine · 13/02/2013 18:39

Hi vp thanks for asking - as Tic says I've been active over on the FD site - I've also been knocking up recipes and, well, lurking on here!

I had a temperature for about 5 days last week, fully recovered now and I'm in good shape!

The FD forum can complement these threads, IMO, and I - and several others - are contributing as we do here. There's lots of scientific work going on over there and it's well worth a browse.

Tip, of course, is stirring them up a bit, as you'd expect! Smile

I've no intention of leaving - I've made too many friends on here! Grin

There's also a forum set up by Kate Harrison on the back of her book:

the5-2dietbook.com/

I see nothing there to attract me over!

Laska42 · 13/02/2013 19:29

I'm shredded again! GrinI have to say im pretty impressed with myself - 3 days in a row and this from the person who hasn't truly done any cardio or strength exercises for about 2 years (walking and cycling are my things. But well. i wasn't that unfit obviously. as lots of hills round here and I'm not finding it too hard but not at all toned so I'm hoping to see some results there.

Can feel something that might be achey tummy muscles.. so i must be doing something right..

Who was it the other day who said their neck hurt? ( I could look back ..)
Anyway . . I must be paying more attention today because I heard Jillian say that you should point your throat up to the ceiling when doing crunches.. by that I think she means to not lead with your head .. this I think is why it can hurt the neck ( something i have found before.. the other tip I remember from old exercise classes is to just put the tips of your fingers behind the ears and as you come up not to bend your ears forward at all with your fingers..

Oh yes re: toddlers sitting on you whilst doing crunches. My cat came in soaking wet from the garden and rubbed himself all over my face and arms whilst I was doing the floor exercises .then jumped on my stomach .. Aargh! .. but I carried on doing what Jillian told me! .. Respect eh?

B&W glad t you haven't left us (i was wondering) ..I dont think I have time to do another board.. so ATB im staying here .

Good to hear from you dontcallmehon we need maintainers and 'nearly theres' over here so we can still encourage each other and so we can make sure that this is not only our last ever weight loss regime but also our 'forever diet'

Our last ever weight loss regime Hey doesn't that sound great ??.. I'm certainly hoping that continuing this WOE (and hopefully along with people like you for support ) will mean I never have to 'diet' againSmile

catsrus · 13/02/2013 20:03

Hi all - i admire the shredders but dont intend to join you Grin

I'm on a fast day today - tea, coffee and miso soup until I came home. Unpacked my shopping and put a bag of cashews and one of apricots into containers - nibbled a few of each didn't both counting the calories (am on maintenance not loss ATM ) then had some lentil curry on lightly stemed savoy cabbage (instead of rice). Added some yoghurt and chilli pickle to give it more umph. Nicely full now.

I made the mistake of having a little tipple before bed last night - ok if I'd gone straight up but I got distracted which led to hunger -and 4 slices of toast butter and marmite at 1am . Anyway didn't eat any solids until I got home at 6.30 today so that over 17hrs - still good.

I'm still weighing every day because I know that in the past I have used not weighing as the equivalent of sticking my fingers in my ears and singing "la la la" - pretending the clothes weren't getting tighter Blush. By just doing it I see the fluctuations and can see what the upper and lower limits of the fluctuations are. ATM its 9st 5lb to 9st 7lb ish. Ideally I'd like it to be 9st to 9st 3lb ish - but won't do the final push until the weather perks up a bit Grin

dontcallmehon · 13/02/2013 20:06

I've found I'm maintaining by still loosely following 5:2, but having a few extra treats on the eating days. I was quite strict to start with and followed ADF, so I've just relaxed a little. I am still losing a little weight (maybe a pound or two a month) so will soon switch to fasting just one day a week, I think.

GiraffesEatPineapples · 13/02/2013 20:14

B&W there are def some interesting researchy posts on 5 2 site (caroline's have caught my eye before) I havent had a proper look recently though.... we have gone a bit shredy over here Grin Glad you are still posting here otherwise getting Envy of 5 2 site!

Laska RespecK Grin

Frenchfancy I think excersise does help make weightloss more visible hopefuly you will surprise your family

GiraffesEatPineapples · 13/02/2013 20:23

america at least you must be doing something right if your calves hurt? I have been cheating around squatting with weights as worried about knees thats prob why mine dont hurt. PS on saddlebags - running is really brill for slimming down legs and today I read that running is not thought to be bad for knees afterall Shock

Laska42 · 13/02/2013 20:36

My calves hurt also.. from which exercise is that do you think? squatting?

frenchfancy · 13/02/2013 21:05

My calves hurt too, and it was my neck though it isn't so bad today. All the exercise has made me hungry though, I had a good dinner, but I'm hungry again. I don't want to eat as I'm fasting tomorrow. I'll have a glass of milk and see if that helps. Bedtime for me.

GiraffesEatPineapples · 13/02/2013 21:08

yes I would have thought so and also the semi lunge with weights? Frenchfancy I wasnt hungry after the dvd but once I started eating I found it hard to stop and ended up over cals on my fast day today.

Bordercollielover · 13/02/2013 21:16

I will stay on this thread and watch you all shredding. Have just had 2 operations on my foot on Monday and got home this evening. My op was delayed all day so no food from Sunday evening to Tuesday morning: as Monday is a fast day for me that was no problem! But, my goodness,, what a lot of overweight nurses and what a lot of high carb meals and snacks they keep dishing up. When I got home I was craving watercress.
I am meant to be only putting weight on my heel but just can't seem to do it so think I will be in a wheelchair for weeks. Good upper body exercise I guess!
