I F - 5:2 - 4:3 - Maintaining the healthy weight

TalkinPeace2 · 01/02/2013 16:59

This thread is for those who have been doing IF for quite a while and are now at or nearing their target healthy weight.

How do we experience fasts and balance a stable food intake while having little or no weight to lose?

How to we ensure that this WOE does keep us at the healthy weight long term rather than revert to yoyo games?

I have now been at the same weight for a month. I'm happy with that. I'm also still enjoying the 24 hour fasts because of the clear mindedness I get during them.

How about you?

Glad that others calves are hurting, I was worried I wasn't doing it properly!

laska huge respect - DS took a tumble off his scooter this am and skidded on his face so I didn't Shred in the end - will have to be this eve as I'm trying to follow your example

giraffes that's a shame as I absolutely hate running! New swimming cossie arrives in the next few days so hoping the pool has the desired effect, banking on getting into surfing to sort my arms out. God I sound like a total exercise freak, which I absolutely am not!

Welcome back B&W, I'm missing the boys in the thread, any idea what happened to Cyclicist?

fretfree · 13/02/2013 22:47

frenchfancy and giraffe - when you do the situps, think about leading with the top of your chest (just below your collarbones) rather than your head. That really helped me with avoiding neck pain

GiraffesEatPineapples · 13/02/2013 23:44

Thanks fretfree will def try that next time.

So still reading my library book and apparently excersise can renew brain cells improving (significantly it seems) our ability to learn and memory functioning. This is true for children and adults. (The first 20 minutes by gretchen reynolds) .

Seriously, my memory is terrible and memory starts to deteriorate in 30s - Gah old age starts a lot sooner than I expected! The potential Alzheimers reduction with 5:2 is one of my main motivators for continuing this woe and it looks like excersise will have to continue too.

Breadandwine · 13/02/2013 23:49

Just arrived home after a bridge evening with some mates - and there was the last quarter of this ratatouille(?) pie I made yesterday, calling my name!

So...it's now just a fond memory! Along with a small glass of stout and a (smaller) glass of wine.

(Wipes keyboard clean! Grin)

I'm now doing a regime halfway between 5:2 and 6:1 - in that I have a complete

virginposter · 14/02/2013 00:03

B&W great to see you fighting fit and posting here again, we can't afford to lose any more males!
It's very interesting to read how everyone is finding their way on the maintenance - I'm hoping to pinch all your ideas ready for after my last 5lb fast.

Well done you guys who are doing shredding, I'm feeling the pain (must be phantom) Grin but am sticking to my dancing and walking for now. After all my weight is gone I am going to do some serious weight lifting in our garage gym to tone my arms, abs and inner thighs which all need attention.

Had a lovely compliment tonight at dancing from DH he said I looked like a greyhound (at least I think it was a compliment Hmm)

virginposter · 14/02/2013 00:07

I'm going to pop over onto the other forum to have a look at TiP but will most probable just lurk and absorb information - I'm quite shy really Wink

GiraffesEatPineapples · 14/02/2013 00:14

Grin virginposter

I think your plan sounds good B&W and the snacking might have been a one off ? Pie sounds really good. Horse meat story is making us consider going parttarian or flexitarian or whatever its called so we can afford to buy meat occasionally from able and cole or somewhere sim. If waitrose has horse in their meatballs what hope is there!

Breadandwine · 14/02/2013 00:35

I've put the pie on the recipe thread. It really is the business. I've still got some of the sauce left - and I made 2 grissini with the dough I trimmed from the pie, so the calorie count is under 270.

Thanks for all your concern folks! As I said earlier, this (these) thread(s) are where I feel most at home. And it's lovely to see all the newcomers who are coming on board and carrying on and enhancing the ethos that has been built up since last August. Smile

Eventually, you'll all find yourselves over on the maintaining thread! It's in the natural scheme of things! Grin

catsrus · 14/02/2013 01:26

Lol at bordercollielover craving watercress

I know what you mean about health care workers and health Shock the snack industry is a very successful one isn't it?

Breadandwine · 14/02/2013 01:59

That last line was obviously meant for the other thread!

Too much wine? Surely not! Grin

NatashaMousse · 14/02/2013 02:18

Sorry to hear that you needed foot operations, BCL, but I trust that they will set things right. You have my sympathy . . . and encouragement. I went through something similar a few years ago and feared that I would gain weight. Au contraire. Several months of having to get around on crutches in non-weight-bearing mode, including navigating stairs, and compromised ability to prepare meals left me leaner and meaner. In fact, I had to resort to calorie-dense nutritional supplement drinks to keep my weight from falling too much.

I tried to keep up with daily exercise but it was rather exasperating and, of course, silly looking attempting various stretches and moves on only one leg, but I do think that helped expedite healing as well as keep my muscles from atrophying too much.

Glad you're home and can start eating healthy food again. Hope your recovery is fast and smooth.

ThinkICan · 14/02/2013 03:06

"Our last ever weight loss regime" - a big YEAH to that Wine

ThinkICan · 14/02/2013 03:10

BCL - hang in there and we are all there for you. Cyclistist - we all miss you and the health capsules that kept us on the straight and narrow. Please come back!

AmericasTorturedBrow · 14/02/2013 05:35

B&W brilliant!

I didn't shred in the end...I did a bloody 7mile walk unintentionally instead (pushing a buggy and at a reasonably fast pace) and am knackered so used that as my exercise today...must do better tomorrow. Fasting went well though, but tired and hungry so going to bed now

Aftereightsarenolongermine · 14/02/2013 06:36

border hope you are feeling better soon.

All the talk of shredding is making me feel very guilty, I don't do any exercise except for my Physio. I really must start again.... But it's finding something that won't completely inflame my arthritis or break the bank. & before anyone says I hate swimming! I don't really walk anywhere either & always park in a disabled bay (yes I do have a badge). I'm rambling now....

AmericasTorturedBrow · 14/02/2013 08:05

Have you tried your local leisure centre for something gentle like yoga or tai chi Aftereights? They don't have to be expensive classes, though to be honest I've no knowledge of arthritis so I could be talking bollocks....

Aftereightsarenolongermine · 14/02/2013 09:20

I know I should get back to Pilates it did help. I used to do 1 to 1 which means they tailor the workout but it was getting very expensive.

Laska42 · 14/02/2013 09:38

cyclistist was lurking.. PM him and tell him you miss him!!

Bro tell us how you are.. we are missing you Smile

nipping in ..at work so cant stay ,..Blush

BetsyVanBell · 14/02/2013 10:02

ok, so I put the shred dvd on rather stupidly before the kids went to bed, they insisted we do it, so still dressed in work clothes and with tins we all had a go, although in honesty I probably did about half as i kept having to show my very clumsy and uncoordinated daughter how to do star jumps, hilariously she cannot do 2 things at once. and then whne I was grunting a bit doing the crunch's she came and put a pillow under my head and gave me a big cuddle telling me it was ok i could stop now!

but I'll confess I cannot do push ups at all, not even teh easy ones, I have zero upper body strength it would seem! Blush

I'm on for another one tonight -without kids to distract, but I still haven't measured, so must do that first.

I'm anti valentines these days, having got married on valentines day in 2001 and now divorced, I think I'll steer clear of big romantic gestures associated to specific dates!

eating today and enjoying fresh fruit salads.

frenchfancy · 14/02/2013 11:39

NSV today. I put on my previously too tight jeans and realised I needed a belt. I bought a new one back in December then forgot about it, so I dug it out only to find it was too big. I had to put in TWO new holes Grin.

I'm up for shredding.

mumocnk I struggle with the push-ups too. I broke my wrist last year and it still hasn't got much strength. I am just about managing the easy ones but it hurts my wrist rather than my upper body.

Laska42 · 14/02/2013 13:39

Hi all . sadly it doesnt look as if TIP will be back but I PMd her yesterday onthe 52fastdiet website and told her we had all gone shred mad! This was her answer:

'WELL DONE on taking up the shred - if you can do it while fasting the weight will fall of and you'll look lean and toned.'

NOW whatever I as Evil Jillian say here you now know you have to do it !! TIP says so!!

BCL hope your foot heals well,, but keep in mund all those overweight health workers as you recuperate inyour wheelchair.. Im sure you can mange to not end up like them.. just keeplookin gin here and we'' help encourage you..

Literarygeek hope feel well again also .. 'comfy' sz 10s .. are a great acheivement..

I've had several people come up to me at work recently (as their January diets havent delivered ) asking me how ive managed to get so thin and remain so (they think im Thin?!! thats a NSV in itself .Smile. ive been firmly in the plump girl brigade for years) and what ive found id that they are now prepared to listen to the idea of fasting, whereas before it was 'no way' .. ( You see they see it works! and especialy when they see me tuckingi ntothe conference sarnies and cakes with no ill effect )

BTW i havent mentioned M&S Souper Green Soupf or a while !! . its fab .. only 220 cals the whole pot . i'm fasting today and thats what ive just had.. (as you know i've steadfastly continued to have two meals on fasting days.,) prawn strirfry again tomight (love it , never get bored) .

Laska42 · 14/02/2013 13:42

'mange to not end up like them.. just keeplookin gin here and we'' help encourage you..

Shameful typing .. sorry BCL.. but im sure you got the gist!! Grin

BetsyVanBell · 14/02/2013 15:24

Ooh, got back home from a trip to town with the kids and Shred has arrived - I'd normally exercise early on a fast day but I'm just fortifying myself with rosehip tea then I'm going to kick the kids out the room and give it a whirl especially if TiP says so! gulp.

I'm going for the not-eating-tip-late fasting option today - seems to be going ok. Admittedly I did make (and drink) a rather disgusting spring greens-based juice earlier but I'm not counting that as food - more a vitamin supplement!
