Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

BIWI · 28/01/2013 08:55

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

skandi I really feel for you sleep deprivation is awful, still having problems with my DS2 who is about to turn 4. Like you my other 2 DC were dreams and I have done everything the same. However, my youngest did have problems health wise for the 1st 12 months re feeding so wonder if it has stemmed from thereHmm Things are alot better now but doesnt take much to put us back in a bad cycle..
Good luck x

slatternlymother · 29/01/2013 11:03

skandi I can't offer any advice, because my DS was a really good sleeper and so I can't begin to comprehend what you're going through Sad

Flaxseed eh? I think I might try some...

Very pleased that my 'weekend weight' has come off, and I tell you what; the carbs weren't half as good as what I remembered Confused

LavenderBriggs · 29/01/2013 11:08

BlackAffronted your link goes to your BTinternet log-in.

hillyhilly · 29/01/2013 11:09

I'm finding that I'm getting light headed late morning after a breakfast of 2 scrambled eggs on one slice of burgen. It makes me queasy to add cheese etc to the eggs and I'm not hungry now but feel a bit "low sugar".
Anyone else finding this? Any advice please, I don't really feel like tucking into a bit of cheese or meat right now. Might have a couple of prunes as I had problems with constipation last time I low carbed.

PlatoonBuffoon · 29/01/2013 11:10

skandi I feel your pain, I also am not seeing movement on the scales despite being a boot camp swot. The other benefits of LC are keeping me going but I'm getting rather irritated.

I am going to give cod liver oil a go - lots of vitimin D and I've heard it can help kick start weight loss when following a LC diet because of the fatty acid content. Don't know if this is anecdotal or whether there is science behind it but worth a go?

This link has more info. I know it's Lance Armstrong's site, and we don't trust him any longer but it was the best one I could find!

here

Perhaps we could form our len little dunce's experiment with n=2.

Also going to watch my portion size and try to really concentrate on whether I'm hungry before eating.

Apart from that, I guess I'm going to keep the faith and hope for the LC magic to start very soon. It feels unfair because I'm trying so hard and I'm sure it must feel the same way for you.

BlackAffronted · 29/01/2013 11:10

Im not with BTinternet, how weird!

BlackAffronted · 29/01/2013 11:11

LavenderBriggs · 29/01/2013 11:20

You're just going to have to tell us which one you got Smile

slatternlymother · 29/01/2013 11:22

hillyhilly can you add smoked salmon?

Sympathy coming your way coldethyl, you can do it.

Ruprekt · 29/01/2013 11:32

Skandi - yes to putting up with more wailing. But if he wails early evening you can deal with it. 3am is more difficult.

No naps after 2pm. MAKE HIM TIRED. He has just got into the habit of waking up and you going to him and he needs to settle himself.

When you do go to him (but try not to) do not make eye contact or speak to him.

You can do this. Smile

Iamaslummymummy · 29/01/2013 11:38

Skandi, does he sleep in a grow bag? Dd once mobile would wake in the night a lot, mostly because her blankets had been kicked off. The grow bag worked amazingly well for us.

Also, dream feeds at about 10.30 meant I didn't have to wake in the night for a feed. Dd was on formula at that stage so easier than bf.

Xxx

Making prawn & courgette balls with a sour cream dip for lunch, will see how it turns out!

A grocer in town has starting doing deliveries, and I have just ordered the "soup in a bag" - you get a brown bag with all the ingredients & a recipe to make amazing soups. This weeks are Red Pepper & Lime (which sounds too carby) and Broccoli, courgette & basil - so I ordered one. Hope it tastes as good as it sounds!

BlackAffronted · 29/01/2013 12:55

prawn & courgette recipe here if anyone is interested. I have no capers, so I am making a different dip for mine.

BIWI · 29/01/2013 13:00

hilly

I'm finding that I'm getting light headed late morning after a breakfast of 2 scrambled eggs on one slice of burgen.

Why are you eating bread? This isn't on Bootcamp! And are you adding fat to your eggs?

It makes me queasy to add cheese etc to the eggs

Well eat something else! Try bacon and mushrooms fried in butter, or full fat yoghurt with some vanilla extract - but eat something fatty

and I'm not hungry now but feel a bit "low sugar".

What does this mean? Do you mean you're feeling shaky/irritable? Are you new to low carbing - if so, this could be the carb flu. Eat something - a piece of cheese or a hard boiled egg. Drink lots of water and eat plenty of fat.

Might have a couple of prunes as I had problems with constipation last time I low carbed.

Please don't do this. They are really carby. If you are getting your carbs from veg/salad, eating plenty of fat and drinking lots of water then you shouldn't be constipated. And it sounds like you're anticipating it rather than actually suffering from it!

omg I just read your post BIWI about sleep deprivation. i weigh in on a Saturday and was very happy with my loss. Then I had a horrendous weekend with dd who had a febrile convulsion and was taken to hospital (only 8 months old) so I had no sleep over the weekend. Admittedly I did resort to carbs while I was in hospital, but not that many. Anyway, weighed myself this morning and I was up 4lb on my Saturday weight Shock

now being very strict again. and dh is doing the nights with dd from now on I think!

BIWI · 29/01/2013 13:02

And those of you buying the flaxseed with goji berries - have you checked the carbs? Goji berries are really high carb - 21g per 100g

GuyMartinsSideburns · 29/01/2013 13:03

Hello! Well yesterday I appeared to be 2lbs down but knew it could be dehydration from a few drinks on sunday. Turns out it prob was as Im 2lbs back up to 9stone. (Probably shouldnt have weighed again but I wanted to see if it was 'real' Blush Grin ) 9 stone is the weight I always always stick at. I thought Id been doing really well - lots of water, no more than 3 coffees a day and only one 'blip' for the whole 4 weeks (and maybe 5 cos I started a week before you lot) which was on friday when I said a had a couple of oatcakes/whatever with some cheese. Im having fat with everything, not eating too much cheese, getting enough sleep and Im not stressed. I walk for at least half an hour a day, sometimes more - today I walked an extra half an hour as I had things to do in town.

Tmi but I havent 'been' Blush yet today, and thats not helping!

Am I just 'meant' to be 9st??

LavenderBriggs · 29/01/2013 13:05

Have checked - it's around 1g of carbs per 'less than a teaspoon'. I don't have the 30g they recommend as I'm scared of exploding.

BIWI In defence of the Linwoods flaxseed and goji berries mix - the carb amounts are very minimal when you consider how little you use.

You just put a sprinkle on things. I put one teaspoon on my yoghurt - so this equates to less than 0.8g carbs. It's really not enough to derail you, and this is a low carb not a no carb diet. (Of course, if you were to go mad and ladle on tablespoons full of the stuff, it could add up. But my daily teaspoon is fine.)
