Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

BIWI · 28/01/2013 08:55

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

Oh and BiWI thanks for offering assistance on the food diary. I will post it on here and hopefully something will reveal itself Grin

I really don't want to be Boot camp dunce any more.

Bessie123 · 29/01/2013 09:43

skandi are you sure there isn't a reason behind your ds' poor sleeping? I only ask because my ds was 1 before we realised he had silent reflux and he was intolerant of dairy, soya and eggs. he kept waking up all through the night because his tummy hurt. Of course we felt dreadfully guilty that he had been so uncomfortable for so long. He started sleeping through the night not long after we cut the foods out of his diet. It took about 3 or 4 months for him to be able to have dairy and soya again. He still has slight problems with dairy but no tummy aches etc any more. He still can't have more than about a quarter of an egg though.

PostBellumBugsy · 29/01/2013 09:47

Kerry - useful things to have in the cupboard /fridge to help make this WOE easier are:

tins of salmon / tuna / sardines etc
Big jar of mayo
packets of sliced ham / beef / chicken
Eggs
avocados
Frozen spinach, cauliflower & any other permissable frozen veg you like
Salady stuff
Cheese

Apart from the salady stuff, most of the rest is fairly long lasting & means that you always have a meal on hand - even if it is just scrambled egg, chopped ham & salad!

Doshusallie · 29/01/2013 09:49

hugs to Skandi - I do feel for you - that was rude in the restaurant. Sad Why don't people just keep their mouths shut?

Anyone see Lorraine this morning while they were working at home? Personal trainer on there saying you should start your day with a protein breakfast such as an omelette, not coco pops or Special K. Whoop!

Doshusallie · 29/01/2013 09:51

I'd avoid bags of salad tbh - they are expensive, don't last long, and they put all sorts of crap in them.

We have become big fans of those baby gem lettuces that are easy to shred in a salad but also are a handy shape for putting things in....

skandi1 · 29/01/2013 09:59

Bessie123. He wasn't always a bad sleeper. In fact he was a dream when he was really small. He became mobile at 5.5 months and as soon as he was mobile the poor sleeping started.

He just wants to go go go all the time. His trick this past week is to try and drop his nap despite only being 18mo and clearly needs it as he is so tired he can barely stand by the end of the day.

We have been to GP to look for underlying causes but he doesn't have any allergies or intolerances.

He gets fresh air every day and is stimulated with activities but not too many.

He gets good home cooked nutritional organic food. I buy from Waitrose and get Abel and cole veg and fruit boxes.

He has a fully established routine (set meal and bed times etc).

He has been treated exactly the same as DD was. Only she was a brilliant sleeper from 6 months onwards and still is.

When he wakes in the night he wants to get up and play and screams the place down when told its still sleepy time. So not only am I up but I also have to listen to unbearably loud wailing. Argh.

DangerousMouse · 29/01/2013 10:03

Good Morning all, I have just added my weight - I couldn't do it yesterday as we had visitors and the guest room en suite has the scales in. I am 3lb down, so very pleased with that and it marks 1 stone loss in total.

My DP is half a lb up this week, but he had a major pig out at the weekend on Haagen Daaz at the restaurant and a whole host of carby food at DS birthday party. He's back to bootcamp for 2 weeks now!

LavenderBriggs · 29/01/2013 10:04

Morning all. I've read that some of us are having an issue with becoming a bit bunged up. I had this in the first couple of weeks and felt horribly bloated and it all felt a bit slow moving (I'm trying to be delicate here, but if anyone else is constipated and feels as if they have rocks in their tum, they will understand).

I bought a couple of packs of Linwood flaxseed. Oh dear lord. A teaspoon of flaxseed and some extra glasses of water and the world is a very different place. I now skip out of the loo, big smile on my face and eyes slightly wider than usual - sort of a happy shocked face. And - my tum is the flattest it's ever been.

Hope this is a tiny bit of help as you lot have helped me so much. I'm now going to check out the recipe thread before I get my shopping done.

NoveltySlippers · 29/01/2013 10:07

Skandi sorry, I just saw your post, I was Shock at the restaurant comment. What idiots!

And Flowers about the sleep. I suffered from insomnia for years - so my lack of sleep wasn't caused by an external factor e.g. DC, but very frustrating. Am still susceptible, last night being a case in point. My sympathies Sad

BlackAffronted · 29/01/2013 10:07

Oh skandi, I really do feel for you :( lack of sleep is a killer, its what has put me off having any more kids, and mine were nowhere near as bad as your DS. You have tried everything I would have suggested, so no advice at all. I can only hope that he changes for you, and soon!

thenightsky · 29/01/2013 10:09

*Before I had my DC I was very slim and had never been on a diet. Within 8 weeks of falling pregnant with my first I blew up like a balloon and just got fatter and fatter. No change in what I ate just changes in my body's metabolism.

I have a whole wardrobe of beautiful clothes I am too fat to wear and I miss looking smart*

Scandi This is me too!

NoveltySlippers · 29/01/2013 10:10

Lavender I love, love Linwoods flaxseed. I have the one with goji berries. Not sure quite what goji berries achieve, but apparently they're good for me Smile. I sprinkle it on my FF yoghurt. (I even posted a pic of this on the photo thread!)

Glad you're 'moving' again.

BlackAffronted · 29/01/2013 10:14

"guest room en suite" what I wold give for my own en suite Grin Well done on the loss though DM!

Lavender, you have reminded me that the last time I tried a LC woe, I would nibble on flaxseed, and never had toilet troubles. Back to Holland & Barrett I go!

DH is off work today, and is currently in the kitchen making me some bacon, eggs & mushrooms :) Im just back from the butchers with 3 bags of fresh meat - slow roasted belly pork for dinner tonight!

BlackAffronted · 29/01/2013 10:15

Where do you get Linwoods flaxseed?

LavenderBriggs · 29/01/2013 10:16

NoveltySlippers I have the goji one too! I put a nip of cocoa powder in it and have it in my soya yoghurt. I love that I can literally watch it expand in the yoghurt.

I tried to explain the feeling to DH and mentioned glaciers carving their way down valleys - he has a big supply of patient smiles and he got through quite a few of them.

LavenderBriggs · 29/01/2013 10:16

BlackAffronted You can buy it online or in health food shops.

DangerousMouse · 29/01/2013 10:17

Sorry, didn't mean to sound la de dah. The guest room is downstairs and joins our main bathroom, we have a small bathroom upstairs also

Just put an order in for some flaxseed, not having any poo problems, but it seems to have a lot of nutrients.

DangerousMouse · 29/01/2013 10:18

I've ordered the linwood flaxseed from amazon, its got free delivery.

NoveltySlippers · 29/01/2013 10:20

Yes, if you google benefits of flaxseed, so much stuff comes up.

Lavender I know what you mean about it expanding! Smile

Black Yes, I get mine from Holland & Barratt.

Ruprekt · 29/01/2013 10:23

Skandi - I think we all need to help you sort out ds's sleeping. helpful Grin

This is what I would do and did.

So be busy all morning. Lunch at 12. Go to park and make him run! Run, run, run. Put him for nap at 1.30pm. Wake him at 2pm. Then busy busy busy again. More running!

(As mum of 2 boys, my mantra has always been that 'boys are like dogs and need lots of exercise every day!)

Dinner at 5.30pm. Warm bath at 6.30pm. Warm milk. Story. Into bed by 7pm.

THEN DO NOT LET HIM OUT OF HIS ROOM AGAIN. If he is full, clean and not ill with allergies or whatever then there is no reason why he should not sleep.

Try the controlled crying again. And get DH on board. Ignore as much as you can.

Hope you don't feel I am being cruel or telling you what to do but this worked for me and the thought of being sleep deprived would ackshully kill me.

NoveltySlippers · 29/01/2013 10:26

Dangerous yes, I don't have 'movement' problems either - maybe it's cos of all the flaxseed! I take it to make sure I stay that way, especially on this WOE. And I'm hoping getting lots of antioxidant benefits from the goji berries.

skandi1 · 29/01/2013 10:35

Nightsky. Solidarity!!! At least I am not the only one. Everyone I know in RL all "snapped back" and haven't been left with tummies 4 sizes bigger than the rest of them.

Thanks everyone for support. It helps!

Bad night with DS so no breakfast so far. I just can't face anything other than nice hot chamomile tea with coconut oil.

I am feeling stressed today because DH is away overseas on business for 4 days and has just phoned to tell me that he has booked decorators who start TOMORROW at 7 for 3 and a half weeks!!!

We had lots of work done during the summer (new kitchen an two bathrooms) and lots of decorating needs doing in the rest of the house.

But why did he need to book it just now!?

This means I have to pack stuff in boxes and put in basement and clear out several rooms upstairs today and cover furniture in plastic sheeting.

My choices are either to do this with the DC ripping at everything and whining or wait till they have gone to bed tonight. Argh.

As far as DH is concerned right now, my thoughts are somewhere between divorce and muderous! Grrrr. It couldn't wait till he was back and he "forgot" to tell me at the weekend (when h could have helped). This decorating has needing doing since September and I have had all the paint sitting waiting but he had to organise it right now. Nob.

PostBellumBugsy · 29/01/2013 10:38

Linseeds/flaxseeds are fantastic. I take a teaspoon of ground flaxseed everyday & I am never constipated.

Skandi, really feel for you. Lack of sleep is so, so awful in so many ways. Another vote for controlled crying too. I did it with DS when he was 15 months, as I was in real danger of killing us all when I drove the car (had 2 very near misses), because I was so tired. I went in that room every 2 minutes for over 3 hours the first night I did it, for nearly an hour the second night & 20 mins the 3rd night & never looked back thereafter!!!!! DS is 13 now & we have a great relationship & he definitely doesn't hold a grudge that I seized the initiative and found a way for both of us to get a night's sleep. Grin. Took a tougher line with no 2 as well and after 9 months just never got into the awful patterns I had done with DS & it saved me from going through prolonged exhaustion again.

skandi1 · 29/01/2013 10:40

Grin At Ruprekt!

Boys are like dogs. Indeed. DS put in face into the bowl of cereal this morning to eat it. So yes.

I do get him to run about. Perhaps more fresh air? A pen in the garden.

He doesn't come out of his room after bedtime. No matter how much he wails.

I suspect I will have to listen to more wailing before this gets better !!

PennyHofstadter · 29/01/2013 10:49

Hi All, marking my place on the new thread. Well done to everyone with their losses this past week... I have to admit to eating two very bad meals at the weekend and therefore I've had carb bloat for the last two days and I haven't weighed myself because I don't want to look at the scales. So back to bootcamp for me! What's even more galling is that I didn't even enjoy one of the meals. Three weeks ago I would have loved it but after three weeks of no sugar everything just tasted sweet and artificial. At least I won't crave it in the future!
