Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

Hi Wolfey

Marmite is 19.2g carbs per 100g - but that's an awful lot of Marmite! Per 4g serving, which I'm guessing is enough to scrape on a piece of toast, it's 0.8g carbs. So I would have thought you would be fine, but just be aware of the carb count and how much you're using. As a point of comparison, if you were to use an Oxo cube in your mince I think that's around 1.8g carbs.

There is no daily limit, because everyone responds differently to carbs. On Bootcamp I would say, on average, we're probably aiming to eat around 20-30g carbs per day; on Bootcamp Light probably around 40-60g. But you have to find what level works best for you.

I don't advocate counting carbs, because I think this makes it unnecessary faffy. As long as the majority of your carbs are coming from veg/salad, and from those that are 3g carbs per 100g, you should be fine.

You make a very good point about how easy it is to create carb creep by adding flavourings to our food. Be aware of the carb counts - and always check the label!

Skandi your story could be mine with my DS2, if I may offer a couple of things that really helped me...

Exercise definitely, but I found doing anything too busy late in the afternoon would make him overtired at bedtime.

i swapped evening milk for a huge bowl of porridge or warm weetabix with banana, and gave him a time to,play quietly in his room before a story, 4 yrs later this still works!

When he was 2-ish I left soft books, cube toy etc in with him to fiddle about with, zero eye contact or chat from me if he woke or he would pounce on the opportunity to ask questions or shout at me. Grrrr!

The first sleepless period saw him eventually being diagnosed with a wee infection, he does seem prone and they do make him restless. now he is older he can tell me about the tummy ache that only comes at night.

Good luck, Brew Brew for you.

Rollergirl1 · 29/01/2013 14:12

GuyMartins: I experience pretty much exactly the same in that I can't seem to get below 9 stone in the last 6 years since I had my children. I used to be 8 stone pre kids and while I don't expect to see that on the scales again, it would be nice to get a little lower.

I too wonder if this is just my body's natural weight now.

Also, once again prob tmi, but I would say that I am also a little constipated. I have never been the most regular person and would go so far as to say that I probably suffer from IBS. But at the moment I am probably going about every 2 to 3 days. I am drinking around 4litres of water a day and eating tons of veg so don't think I am doing anything wrong. I have actually wondered if it might be the fact that I have reduced the amount of builders tea (with ss milk) I am consuming during the course of a day. I always used to find that having a cup of tea helps me to go to the loo..Blush

littlermissstan · 29/01/2013 14:26

Feeling thoroughly nauseous and digusted with myself after accepting a little bit of my boss' birthday cake. Seriously, felt so sick that I had to go walk around outside and do a bit of deep breathing. I hope this means that my body no longer wants stuff like that! It was about 1/4 of a slice so am going to down my bodyweight (and that's a LOT) in water this afternoon and hope it doesn't cause too much damage Blush

GuyMartinsSideburns · 29/01/2013 14:38

Rollergirl1 Grin @ you and your builders tea... I had a coffee this afternoon for that very same reason Blush

yes it worked

Id rather be 8 and a half stone really, will keep on it I guess!

PennyHofstadter · 29/01/2013 15:05

After the weekends over indulgence todays menu is...

B - hard boiled egg, 2 rashers of bacon, a few spoons of FF yogurt
L - ham salad with avocado and small cubes of cheese with oily dressing
D - homemade turkey burgers, mince, shallots, chilli, salt and pepper with flat mushrooms

Snack - celery and FF Philadelphia, hard boiled egg.

I'm on my 3rd litre of water. Had 1 cup of tea and 1 of coffee, no milk in the coffee.

I am finding myself relying on cheese for snacks and also to add a bit of flavour (I love smelly cheeses). Possibly need to cut this down a bit.

Ilisten2theradio · 29/01/2013 15:11

I have to smile at all the linseeds. I was commenting about needing them last week Blush but they work!
Littlemissstan was the sick feeling disgust that you had slipped up or from the sweetness of the cake?
I am wondering as I just made a cake for somone else and absentmindedly licked my finger after I had scraped the spoon off into the tin. Boy was it sweet! - I only had the tiniest amount and I needed to get a drink of water.
Its scary how fast your taste buds adapt to this low sugar. I would never have previously believed it.

NoelHeadbands · 29/01/2013 15:22

skandi you sound so down, I wish I could wave a magic wand for you

Busy day today so wolfed a couple of sausages for breakfast and scraped out the innards of a roast chicken and bacon sandwich for lunch. Yum yum eh Hmm

Will make up for it tonight with a ton of slow cooked beef stew and a mound of buttered cabbage. With extra butter Grin

littlermissstan · 29/01/2013 15:31

Ilisten from the sweetness - it was very chocolatey and just made me feel ill!

skandi1 · 29/01/2013 15:46

Halfthesize, mumat, kitchen fairy, woolfey, Ruprekt, coldethyl, slatternly, Noel. Thanks all for help support and suggestions.

Platoon. Grin At dunce club.

Noel. Yes I am down today. Trying to clear two rooms upstairs in readiness for decorators tomorrow. DC are squabbling. And DH is larging it up 5 star style in Paris for most of the week interrupted only with the occasional phone call to issue demands. I am seething at him just now.

I have cried in front of the DC today. Just miserable.

Just want my bed and sleep without hearing from DS.

He is in a gro bag. And has no excuses for weakening up and wailing. It's become a habit now and it's because once he has had 5/6 hrs of sleep (circa 1 am onwards). He wants up to play. I have tried drinks of water milk etc but its a habit.

I guess shutting the door on him and letting wail is probably the answer. At 18 months old he really shouldn't be flapping around half the night.

WillieWaggledagger · 29/01/2013 15:56

skandi i have no children so next to useless to you, but i would like to give you a cuddle!

skandi1 · 29/01/2013 16:03

Willie. Thanks. If you like I'll lend you my DC for a little while Wink

PennyHofstadter · 29/01/2013 16:03

Oh Skandi, I have no children either so have no suggestions and everything sounds trite but I wish you all the very best.

Ruprekt · 29/01/2013 16:08

Just let him wail.

He will be fine but the anti CC people might be along to contradict! Smile

Have Thanks Brew and a stick of celery with FF cheese. Smile

Bessie123 · 29/01/2013 16:12

I a quite anti cc but I would definitely be doing it if my ds wasn't sleeping by 18 months - so exhausting, skandi1 you must feel like you're going insane

halfthesize · 29/01/2013 16:15

skandi ((((hugs))))

halfthesize · 29/01/2013 16:18

You know skandi you have to do what is right for you and your family/sanity.

I have to say the no talking/eye contact is suppose to be very effective. Is there anyone who could take the DC for a night to give you a well earned break?

theDudesmummy · 29/01/2013 16:32

I have today allowed to put my weight on, which should have been done yesterday. It does now show a small loss, which i can live with rather than the apparant gain!

Ruprekt · 29/01/2013 16:34

I have just had a packet of pork scratchings/hog bites.

Yummy but expensive at 99p per crisp packet size.

What else could I snack on that is crisp like?

JustasmallGless · 29/01/2013 16:40

Skandi- sending hugs. Can't add any more advice but can hold your hand to get through it

B 2 boiled eggs and mayo
L celeriac leek and courgette soup
S lump of cheese
Am out with friends tonight but will be good tonight and no alcohol as driving

halfthesize · 29/01/2013 16:48

willie could you add me back on the spreadsheet please, I forgot to update so dropped off, thankyouWink
