Week 4 - New Year Bootcamp - Where We Really Get Going

BIWI · 28/01/2013 08:55

Morning all!

Quick post from me as I have to go to work. Damn that RL!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Remember that in this week, it is still likely that you may see very little or even no loss. This is entirely normal and will happen no matter how well you have been following Bootcamp rules

It sounds, though, like some of you are eager to report losses anyway, so that's brilliant!

However, there's been a lot of falling off the wagon recently, so can I suggest that we really get focused in this week and make sure that we don't allow the carbs to creep back into the diet? From here on, we're only really going to see losses of around 1-2lbs a week, so let's not sabotage things.

Signing in this morning. Feel much better. Well, I'm telling myself I feel better and hopefully body and brain will listen.

It's all sunny and blue skies here in Scotland.

I should really get myself showered and get out and about.

Thanks again all of you for the kind wishes - it really lifts my spirits.

BlackAffronted · 02/02/2013 09:46

MrsHoolie, is your creamy chicken recipe in the recipe thread?

BIWI · 02/02/2013 09:49

I'm going to experiment making those crackers with almonds today - they will be higher carb, but may be more solid. Will report back ...

Skadi hope you slept well and feel better
Boobz wrap up warm (you look amazing in your pics btw!)

Well i had v bad day yesterday, no excuse and not even going to post what i had. After 2 weeks 5 days low carbing i messed it up, really pissed off with myself.

Anyway, the good thing is that knowing i'm back to 2 weeks strict bootcamp is not such a bad thought, just going to get right back on the wagon. Partly cos i love how this woe makes me feel, partly cos you guys are great and so supportive and inspiring [american emoticon] (no i'm not actually american).

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Morning all. Thanks to anyone who needs an arm around the shoulder (no hugs, just a bit of a squeeze of the shoulder) (I might have a cold coming).

I feel a bit out of sorts today - bit headachy and icky. Couldn't manage a decent run. Going to treat today as a complete rest day (will do degree work in a calm restful way).

I had an idea - I want to make chicken egg fried rice tonight (obviously with cauliflower rice) - could the cracker things incorporate prawns for a low carb prawn toast effort? Can decent crackers be made without cheese?

FurryDogMother · 02/02/2013 09:57

Morning all. Having a bit of a change here because I'm trying to wean myself off too much bacon - and it doesn't help that we're out of eggs until Tesco turns up between 10 and 12. Tummy was growling so much that I just ate a slice of cold roast beef with a smearing of horseradish - that should hold me until I can make a mushroom omelette!

I've also swapped to decaff coffee as of this morning - tasted OK, but it's probably no coincidence that I'm still feeling dozy at almost 10 am. Plans for the day include salmon with watercress sauce (recipe yet to be devised, but will involve cream) and possibly a lamb steak with red wine and shallot sauce, plus broccoli.

I bought some linseed yesterday, and had a sprinkling of it in a small bowl of Greek yoghurt with blueberries (no sugar, no sweeteners) last night - it was nicely crunchy and completely tasteless. Unsweetened yoghurt with berries may take a bit of getting used to - I've been having the yoghurt in curries, or as a cucumber/yoghurt/mint/spices side dish until now. I think I prefer it that way.

Off out for Sunday lunch at a pub with a friend tomorrow, but I've checked the menu and there's plenty there I can eat :) Hoping that Monday's weigh-in will reflect my efforts this week!

BIWI · 02/02/2013 09:58

If you cooked the prawns and then processed them with the rest of the mixture, that might work. If you did, say, 50g prawns and 50g cheese?

Not sure if it would hold together well enough if all prawn - although you could always try? Sounds like a fab idea though! Possibly add some chilli flakes as well, or a bit of garlic?

I was inspired to go and track down a recipe I used to use -

200g ground sunflower seeds
25g sesame seeds
1 tsp baking powder
25g butter
egg white/milk

mix everything, roll out, bake.

Could I use this/tweak it a bit? Are sunflower seeds ok? They're fairly robust and might take a handful of chopped prawns. This is coming together!

BlackAffronted · 02/02/2013 10:09

Finally, my bleeding/spotting has stopped! Almost 3 weeks of it, I am so glad thats over. Fingers crossed thats it, and I can go back to being period-free again.

Food yesterday was good.

B - edam & ham slices
L - broccoli, courgette & basil soup (2 bowls)
D - chicken kebab & salad - left the pitta, chicken was marinated in herbs & spices, salad had no dressing so Im guessing it was all ok

Ive just tucked into some mushrooms, bacon & eggs. Im off out for lunch with a friend, but its a steak & fish restaurant so Im sure Ill be able to make great choices.

BIWI · 02/02/2013 10:20

Crazy Jacks sunflower seeds are 19g per 100g, so could make this a bit carby

OP posts:
LavenderBriggs · 02/02/2013 10:43

Hmm...I could increase the sesame seeds (15g per 100g), maybe chuck in some ground almonds. The prawns will replace some more sunflower seeds. And I'll only have a couple with dinner

captainmummy · 02/02/2013 10:47

brighthair - 3 kgs in 10 days ? That's fantastic! Well done.

My breakfast today is leftover turnip gratin from last night dinner -layered turnip with chicken and with cream over. so simple and so delish.

Bessie123 · 02/02/2013 10:51

Can I just reiterate how good the oopsie rolls are? Plus, if you put whipped cream on one mixed with half a sachet of sweetener (don't bring your stick out biwi it's just a very little) and then strawberries on top it's like having a cake. I reckon you could layer 2 or 3 of them like that for a proper cake-y thing. It's my bday next week, I was thinking of making that instead of bday cake. But my dsis has offered to make me a candior and kook curly wurly cake. Oopsie rolls can't beat that

Bessie123 · 02/02/2013 10:53

Ps as punishment for trying to devise a low carb cake I seem to have put on another lb. I will be fat forever

captainmummy · 02/02/2013 10:58

Bessie - did your Oopsie rolls turn out like rolls? Or like pancakes, like mine? I dunno what i did wrong, other than maybe using tesco cheapo creamcheese, which goes quite liquid. Even so the pancakes were fine, i used them like wraps, but they were very like the creamcheese-pancake recipe on here, just not fried.

Ruprekt · 02/02/2013 11:28

Dh has had 5g of HM marmalade with FF yoghurt.

Is that OK?

Tis too late anyway as he has eaten it but wants to know if he could have it for a treat occasionally.

Bessie123 · 02/02/2013 11:52

They end up looking like half a roll. They are very light - did you whisk the egg whites really stiff and use large eggs?

BIWI · 02/02/2013 13:16

It's basically going to be pretty much sugar, isn't it? So I'd say that it was, probably, a fairly carby snack - depending on how much yoghurt and its carb count.

Better question is why?!

OP posts:
captainmummy · 02/02/2013 13:25

I did whisk the Bessie - prob not enough tho. They did puff up in the oven then went back down again!

I'll try them again though.

Ruprekt · 02/02/2013 13:34

BIWI - Because he wanted to. And because I didn't have the strength to defend Low Carbing AGAIN!!!!

If he wants to sabotage himself then he can.

He was, however, thrilled at being able to tighten his belt even more today.

Glorious sunny day here in Scotland.

I was sooooo virtuous today at the Women's cycling coaching that I am currently going to. It was our second two hour session and one of the exercise involved picking up a wrapped toffee from the coach's outstretched hand, unwrapping it and eating it (while doing a tight U-turn) and then high-fiving the next person so that they could start. I gave my toffees to the lady in front of me! :):)

sybilfaulty · 02/02/2013 15:01

Have been reading but not posting.

Distastrous day yesterday which culminated in nibbling a couple of breadstick whilst out for supper (with wine). Drank GALLONS of water though so don't
feel too bad. Am struggling with pretty much everything at the moment, so trying to stay as low carb as pssible to assist.

Thinking of Yama, Frou and Jaca today - Jaca, hope the funeral went as well as these things can.

ToomuchWaternotWine · 02/02/2013 15:20

Hoping skandi had a good nights rest, and everyone else having a good weekend so far.

BlackAffronted · 02/02/2013 15:45

Is anyone with a carb counter able to tell me how carby this soup would be please?
1 shallot peeled and chopped,
2 garlic cloves peeled and crushed,
2 red peppers deseeded, and chopped roughly,
1 red chilli halved and seeds removed,
1 tomato skinned and chopped,
1 lime zested and juiced,
800ml vegetable stock

I would love to try it, but think it may be too high? :(

ShebaQueen · 02/02/2013 17:12
