Sorry to be a bit late this morning - no doubt you're all chomping at the bit to declare all on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Re losing weight from your tummy. If your tummy is bigger to start with, then you are carrying more fat there.

When we lose weight, it seems to me that we lose it proportionately - i.e. at the same rate from all over. Therefore, your tummy will still look bigger. It's only when you've got rid of the fat else where that your body will start on the tummy area.

Certainly for me, I've lost two stones. It was only, literally, in the last few weeks before Christmas I began to see - when I looked in the mirror - that I had lost weight, because the fat on my torso (above and below the navel) was finally disappearing.

Does that make sense?

That does make sense. I have a muffin top where I used to have a whole muffin! It's a PITA because, now I am wearing more fitted clothes, it spoils the shape of what I am wearing. Off for a gym and swim tonight. Think I'll given that big ball a real thrashing Grin

BigStickBIWI · 17/01/2013 18:01

Yep - Mumsnet Academy have organised a day on 27 Jan (I think) to be run by Dr John Briffa. I'm going, and I wondered if any other Bootcampers were going to be there

I'm still deciding whether to go because the trains are shite on a Sunday. Do you know whether I could pay on the day? Would love to give the man a big hug for changing my life! And you know exactly where it is in That London?

FurryDogMother · 17/01/2013 18:49

I'd love to go to the Briffa day - not sure I can afford it though, with the train fare on top - and as Ilove says, the trains can be a nightmare on a Sunday if there are engineering works (I'd be coming from Hove, which diverts via Portsmouth when this happens, takes 2 hours). Hmm...will have to think about it and check on forthcoming rail issues.

Ilove - it looks like we have similar goals (just checked the spreadsheet) - you're 10lbs (ish) ahead of me! I'm 53, and I think you're right about needing to keep a bit of flesh on us - I am wrinkly enough already, really!

BIWI I probably am losing proportionately (had a VERY big tummy!), but it seems so unfair that my fingers are skinny, when I really don't care much about them!

Thanks Skandi for the suggestion of coconut oil in herbal tea. I am looking forward to trying in peppermint tea once the kids are in bed.

FurryDogMother i think it helps the not feeling cold that I chose to spend around 20hrs a week between -5 and -10C even in summer. Although i did get funny looks from a few coppers last week when it was -4C and I was walking around in a t-shirt at 1am. Car did have the heating up but the lack of wind meant it was fairly pleasant. probably just a bit weird wrt this Blush

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/01/2013 19:29

Happy birthday to the birthday girls!

yama well done! The next stone mark is always brilliant to see.

Yama · 17/01/2013 19:33

Thanks MrsHP - I've between dropping a quarter pound a day or nothing so to drop a whole half pound elicited a smile out of me I must admit. Smile

And yes, BIWI I know it's not all about losing weight. I do feel much healthier, skin clear, more energy etc but to see a change in the left hand number on the scales was nice.

This time next week I'll be sitting in a different house. Exciting.

slatternlymother · 17/01/2013 19:50

yama well done, and good luck on your house move.

Right, tomorrow I'm going to eat a lighter breakfast but we are going here

There isn't a lot of safe stuff is there? I'm thinking I'm limited to the chargrilled chicken with house salad and steamed green beans. Can anyone give me a second choice if the chicken is off the menu?

I know starfish I was actually a bit disgusted with myself. I NEVER pass up a lunch opportunity. I love eating. Sad

Oooh yes good one, now I see...

Do you think they'd do me extra cheese on the cheese board in place of the biscuits?
