Hello all, I can't keep up with this thread but I did read about your fall Starfish, big hugs to you, hope you and your DS are ok, what a shock for you.

I've got a niggly sore throat which I hope isn't the start of something more. Am just about to have a green tea - just about getting used to it, prefer the lemon and ginger one.

Have a good evening all.

MsRinky · 15/01/2013 19:56

I'm not having a horrible time! Sorry that you are though MsNJE Hope you can visit your grandfather soon and that he's OK.

Think I am having mid-life crisis. Am 40 on Thursday, and today have seen my dream job advertised. It has all the good bits of my job and none of the crap bits. I work full time. Dream job is 3 days a week. I think that's the dreamiest bit about it. I don't have any kids and don't expect that this will change given my advanced years, so it would be swapping work for time for me.

So am now frantically spreadsheeting to prove to myself that I can afford to give up 40% of my salary. Am I mad? I'm currently trying to quantify how much I spend every month to cheer myself up for having to work so hard...

Grr, double post, stupid technology.

Anyway, good news is I have been so distracted all day I just clean forgot to eat my lunch. This has never happened to me before.

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/01/2013 20:00

starfish hope you are OK.

Still doing well here, both me and DH and am feeling positive. I have found by snacking regularly I avoid the cravings a bit.

B - scrambled eggs and bacon
L - soup, celery and pâté
D - pork steaks, cauliflower cheese from the recipe section (thanks gless).
S - pork scratchings

BigStickBIWI · 15/01/2013 20:01

MsRinky -
i found turning 40 was a time where I reevaluated my life.
Hey if you can afford it and its your dream job- go for it!

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/01/2013 20:02

msrinky DO IT! Lovely work and time to yourself would be so good for your health and well being! Of course if you can afford it!

JustasmallGless · 15/01/2013 20:04

MissNJE
How are you doing with your eating while you are on holiday?
Will you get to see your grandfather whilst you are there? Mothers are notorious for winding us up and pushing our buttons Wink
Be kind to yourself too - sending positive thoughts

Doshusallie · 15/01/2013 20:05

Evening all. Oooh go for it mrs rinky. colleague I know gave up high pressure job to become a part time landscape gardener, has never been happier.

Tea was 3 turkey sausages, leeks and sprouts cooked with a splash of cream, and broccolli. Needed more cream really.

Snack was hog bites.

Didn't make it to gym today(despite wearing the clothes) so will DEFFO GO TOMORROW aches or no aches.

Boys abed, dh out, in pjs with cat on lap, with the remote. Second part of Lewis you say? Oh go on then. Grin

Starfish very sorry to hear of your nasty fall, hope your bath has been restorative.

Yama · 15/01/2013 20:15

Am knackered. Long day at work and mega stressed about upcoming house move.

B - Chicken thigh and wee dod of pate
S - Yoghurt
L - Egg mayo and salad
S - Pepperami
D - Beef and leek meatballs with celeriac mash.

Dh managed to find a ginger tea with no sugar so might have a wee cup of that and head up to bed.

littlermissstan · 15/01/2013 20:25

Right, having been reading the John Briffa book and BIWI's posts I don't think I'm eating enough fat... (Never thought I'd say that!!) BIWI, this is what I ate today, can you tell me what you think?
B: Greek yogurt
L: Shredded red cabbage mixed with mayo and a roast chicken leg with skin
D: Gammon steak, cauliflower mashed with butter and cream, Savoy cabbage with a bit of butter on
Now I think that's a lot, but on mfp it works out about 75g of fat versus about 85g protein...
The good news is that after turning his nose up at it DP wolfed a plate of cauliflower mash so that will be on the menu again.

littlermissstan · 15/01/2013 20:26

Oh, and forgot a pepperami, two cups of tea with a tiny bit of milk, and about 7 pints of water.

NoveltySlippers · 15/01/2013 20:28

Starfish Sorry about your fall, and MissNJE - so sorry you're having such a tough time in Germany. Thanks for you both.

MsRinky As someone who has a pressured(ish) job and often fancies running off to join the circus (okay maybe something a bit less acrobatic) - I say do it, do it, do it!

NoveltySlippers · 15/01/2013 20:29

(Would offer some Wine for courage to fill out the job app, but it's not allowed)

BigStickBIWI · 15/01/2013 20:38

littlermissstan - I'm surprised that is less fat than protein - I would have said that it looks fine.

How does it compare with what you were eating before you decided to believe me to eat more fat?

SavoirFaire · 15/01/2013 20:40

Evening everyone.

Starfish, what a shock. I do hope you and DS are both ok.

MsRinky, sounds exciting and worth doing the maths. I work 3 days a week and I would say that the financial shock to the system is worth considering really seriously before you do it - although I have DCs and their childcare currently absorb more than my entire salary which is a problem you won't have. Only other thing I would say is that what looks like a dream job on paper will doubtless have many crap bits, just like your current job. I know very few people who don't whinge about parts of their job. But you can't be sure about that until you go for an interview, or possibly not until you start the job. So I would say go for it, apply - you don't need to make a decision about taking the job until after you've been through the process.

So, I also have a saw throat which I think may be the signs of something. Both DCs were up over night last night so I think we're all sharing germs. Again.

My day:
B: 2 eggs and butter
L: Last nights leftover casserole along with some broccoli rice (fancied trying that in same vein as cauli rice). It was absolutely gorgeous.
D: Belly pork served with cauli cheese and some salad.

Problem though - I was very excited about pork belly and crackling. But crackling was VERY Disappointing. I have some more pork for later in the week. Please give me your tips for how to make the crackling super crackly. Thanks!

littlermissstan · 15/01/2013 20:41

Could be wrong values on mfp maybe - it's not the most reliable of tools! And it's lots more than before, and I'm 8lbs down since new year, so shall just have a quiet preen that you approve and carry on :)

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/01/2013 20:46

BIWI am liking your description of 'saw' throat - describes it very well Wink

Hmmm, crackling - take pork out night before to dry out. Use a Stanley knife to score lots, smother in salt rubbing into all the cracks... ?

Yama · 15/01/2013 20:58

Just running in to say that dh has just made the King of snacks. He put some of that Groovy Coconut Oil (thanks for the recommendation) into a bowl and into the microwave. Then he folded in some spinach and parma ham. Wow. Taste sensation.

Right, off to bed to watch an episode of the Killing.

NoelHeadbands · 15/01/2013 20:59

Hello everyone

I'm absolutely knacked tonight so heading off to bed with a book.

B - sausages dipped in mayo
L - ham and cheese letwiches
T - beef stew with sautéed cabbage and turnip dauphinois (thanks to whomever posted that recipe, I'd have never thought to try it)

Yama · 15/01/2013 21:02

Ooh, Savoir, you say the broccoli rice was nice? Dh asked about broccoli rice and I said "no, there's not a recipe for that on Mumsnet so it probably doesn't work." Grin
