is feta cheese like goats cheese? i.e. foul?

ChasingDogs · 18/01/2013 14:41

I keep forgetting it has a recipe thingy, oops. Are recipes public so you can steal other peoples share them? Grin

Managed to time my walk/run session to coincide with another mini blizzard, d'uh. And just got back to the smell of bacon, eggs and potato cakes. So not only do I have to sit about smelling it while I ponder another bloody Ryvita, but there's sod all point faffing around making pizza tonight when everyone else will be full.

Probably just as well but I feel cheated, cheated I tell thee!

ChasingDogs · 18/01/2013 14:43

Feta is goats/sheep mix i think? I quite like it but it's very salty. It doesn't have a strong goaty flavour if that makes sense.

tries to think of a better way to describe "goaty flavour"

Pinot · 18/01/2013 14:44

non-goaty is good for me :o

Pinot · 18/01/2013 14:46

Chasing, I am doing pizza tonight. Pitta bread with pasta sauce on, half fat cheese, ham, jalapenos and a ton of salad on the side. Lush and (I think) about 300 cals. Bit of garlic added to the sauce for added oomph. Put on hot baking tray and cook til cheese bubbles.

ChasingDogs · 18/01/2013 14:47

I had it for the first time last night. There were no bleating noises when I opened the packet, so that was a good sign. Grin

I'm a cheese freak though. I could much those fat-filled slices and chunks of tasty blubber all day. le sigh.

ChasingDogs · 18/01/2013 14:50

Ooooh that's a good idea. I'll have to add pitas onto my next shop. Thanks! Might try to combine chicken breast and jalapenos in some cleverly low fat way tonight...

Pinot · 18/01/2013 14:51

LOVE jalapenos. I do think spicy flavours are the way to go to turn your body against traditional comfort food. Jalapenos chopped up really fine can be added to salads too. Or jacket potato topping etc.

Lizzylou · 18/01/2013 14:56

Warm filling food is deffo needed.

That quinoa salad I have been having this week is lovely and very filling (though cold).

I am having this recipe for dinner.

Just had a jacket potato with tuna for lunch as was at a networking event where the food looked greasy and full of calories, so picked up something on way back.

Still under cals though.

RandallPinkFloyd · 18/01/2013 15:00

Feta isn't goaty no! More just salty. I'm impressed with the low fat one though. Normally low fat cheese is an abomination but this one is fine.

Don't know if recipes are public tbh but I would have thought so.

Pinot · 18/01/2013 15:09

Does salty mean it's high in salt I have to be careful with DH's salt levels.

Pinot · 18/01/2013 15:10

....and and and, in other feta-related questions, is it a brand that's decent, rabdall? or any old supermarket stuff? Pray tell

Pinot · 18/01/2013 15:10

RANDALL

sorry

[arse]

ChasingDogs · 18/01/2013 15:17

I think the salt levels are pretty high. You can reduce it by soaking it for a couple of mins in cold water and rinsing it I believe. Not sure on exact numbers though.

Another lover of the great Jalapeno here Smile I grew my own a couple of years ago and think I'll do the same this year. Though I'd need about 3 acres worth of poly tunnels to grow what I get through in a year Sad

You've inspired me though! Tonight is grilled chicken and salad (inc. jals) in a couple of wraps that need using up. Mmmm.

Lizzie that recipe looks lush. I've never eaten a lentil. My face is all ashamed lol.

Lulabellarama · 18/01/2013 15:22

As a goats cheese hater, I would say that feta is not as bad, but it's still too 'farmy' for me

Lizzylou · 18/01/2013 15:25

Feta is good because it os lower in fat and because it is full of flavour you don't need as much Pinot.

Go and buy some.

Lizzylou · 18/01/2013 15:27

OOh that was bossy.
Sorry.

It's nice, try it, you may like it.

RandallPinkFloyd · 18/01/2013 15:43

It was a make but only because it was on offer! I haven't found a difference between the brands and the supermarket ones tbh.

I love the stuff, I used half a standard sized block in the three days worth of salad and it was plenty. Worked out at 201.5 mg of sodium per portion. Don't know what that means in terms of actual salt but it seems ok, the daily allowance on 1400 calories a day is 2500.

nilbyname · 18/01/2013 16:20

stop talking about fatty foods!

Hi Mo, glad you are back.

Bups....your scales are broken. Tru Fax, buy new ones, they might also be broken mind.

I walked up a hill 4 times today toting my 15m old DD. That must mean something! Then whizzed down it, brilliant!

buzzybuzzybeeshoes · 18/01/2013 17:17

Will not mention fatty foods especially not macaroni cheese with breadcrumbs on top Wink oh no.

Not sure what to have for tea. I think I have about 300 cal left so maybe a tin of tomatoes with black pepper, and some brown toast with a bit of real butter mmmm. Hope DH doesn't come back from work wanting takeaway.

Bupcakes and Randall - another 14.12er here. Would love to get to 11 and a half stone

karatekimmi · 18/01/2013 17:25

I watch a lot of cookery programmes and I cant wait for the day John Torode describes food as "goaty" and Farmy" Grin love it!

dinkydoos · 18/01/2013 17:28

Just done kids tea, and for their pud I microwaved some frozen forest fruits, then added bit granola on top and microwaved for another minute, and served with warm custard. So was thinking if only used only tiny bit granola and used low fat custard then not too bad calorie wise, and will be not at all very similar to a crumble sort of thing.
And soup. Only been doing this for few days, but already have that strange dread of soup, it's a drink ffs.
Def having wine tonight (again) . Think it's a better bargain calorie wise than most treats... Yup. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

ChasingDogs · 18/01/2013 17:39

Lol! "goaty" and "farmy" are technical terms! Honest! Grin

RandallPinkFloyd · 18/01/2013 17:52

Apparently to get to my ideal weight in need to lose 5 stone Shock

I'd need to sacrifice at least one leg for that so think I'd be happy with 11ish.

Lizzylou · 18/01/2013 19:16

Complete change of plan menu wise tonight, will do the chicken and lentil dish tomorrow.
Stuffed from lunch so will have toast.

Having a Just Dance marathon with boys and DH. I am v good at Bollywood dances, the rest not so much Hmm Good workout though.
