I can't even bring myself to type in my weight because I am so ashamed :(

I need to lose 3.5 stone before the end of May (going on holiday with a thin friend) I am doing My Fitness Pal (calorie counting) and I am going to do 1200 calories a day. It's brutal I know but then so was the reading on my scales this morning.

Effing Nora :(

Yesterday was fine. I ate 1400 ish calories and my BMR is 1356 or something equally sloth like. However, today I feel sluggish, bloated and crap! What's that about I should be feel slim and sanctimonious surely?

Anyway I am going to have a homemade veggie soup for lunch and then have chicken and steamed veg later and drink water today and see if i can do a mini detox. Any ideas for healthy calories to make up to my 1400? That won't make me feel like this tomorrow? Not nuts though - can't have the in the house with an allergic child.

clinkingIceCubes · 10/01/2013 11:19

super, maybe adding some beans or pulses (or are they the same thing Confused?) to the soup? Good cals, vitamins, iron etc. That's when pearl barley and bulgar wheat are good too if you have them

superbaghag · 10/01/2013 11:20

I have lentils and pearl barley in stock :)

Thanks for kicking my brain into gear

clinkingIceCubes · 10/01/2013 11:21

and the crap feeling could be due to your body adjusting to not so much processed stuff. Peversley (sp?!) your body can really struggle with cold turkey on the bad stuff if you have had lots of sugary stuff on a daily basis for e.g.?

clinkingIceCubes · 10/01/2013 11:21

bit too much 'stuff' there....

clinkingIceCubes · 10/01/2013 11:23

really easy to miss out on vits and minerals which doens't help with the cold turkey either. e.g. lack of iron is a killer for tiredness

superbaghag · 10/01/2013 11:30

I don't tend to eat too much crap. I keep my weight fairly even and have a solid maintenance plan. I just threw caution to the wind in December and put on half a stone that I want to shift.

Buying Haribo in 3kg bags from the cash and carry is not a good plan!

TigerFeet · 10/01/2013 11:30

I felt crap for the first few days too, I think clinking is right about cold turkey. Day 4 today and I feel so much better. I'm withdrawing from sugar and sweeteners. Grim.

clinkingIceCubes · 10/01/2013 11:56

sorry super, have lost track of who's trying to lose what from which starting point Confused

we need a spreadsheet!

hevak · 10/01/2013 11:57

Well, the builders aren't coming today after all, so no rushing in my lunch break, and no need for McD's - yay! On the downside it's yet another day's delay in the kitchen being finished. Sad

I guess I'll get soup for lunch again. I'm trying to have salad or soup for one meal every day, I think someone up thread said they were planning this? It seems like a good way to get some veggies and vitamins in without having to think about it too hard. Unfortunately I don't like any of the healthy salads that the Tesco near work offer although their carb heavy pasta salads are good so it's soup for me!

nilbyname · 10/01/2013 12:16

hevak Can you make a salad the night before?

I like cous cous with

Lemon juice, red onion (very finely diced) cherry toms, little lump of feta crumbled, soy beans and salt and pepper. Is really tasty and really filling. About 300 cals I think and all gooduns.

CarriedAwayAnnie · 10/01/2013 12:59

Third day of The Shred here. Apart from 2yo dd2 trying to cuddle while I was laying down doing the ab crunches it went well.

I think it might be getting easier.

But I still really hurt, dd1 asked 'what's wrong mummy?' when I was trying to sit on her bed last night to read her a story.

Food wise, I'm having to eat what's in the cupboards until I can shop tomorrow. So food today is a bit throw together. I need to eat more calories and more protein. Which may prove tricky as I have don't have nuts etc. Any suggestions welcome?

Thanks Clinking, added seeds to my shopping list Smile

BaublesAndCuntingCarolSingers · 10/01/2013 13:01

Beans? Do you have any? Eggs? Chickpeas?

GeekLove · 10/01/2013 13:08

Checking in
Have has 2 eggs + 2 bacon on toast with sushi for lunch so far.
As for my photos it was a combination of walking and Shred 3x weekly 4 in a good week.
I have been aiming to avoid bread, pasta and rice. I use vegetables instead with meals. I love Japanese food but trying to live on it in the most landlocked country in the UK isn't really practical.
I think as you get older you are more sensitive to sugar and booze. I have been training myself to eat dark chocolate but this means I can't eat Cadburies!

CarriedAwayAnnie · 10/01/2013 13:47

I love dark chocolate is it better for you than normal chocolate? How did I not know that!

I have eggs and chickpeas thanks Baubles Smile

Did you poach your eggs Geeklove?

I always fry mine which isn't at all healthy but poaching always sounds like such a faff

DoubleMum · 10/01/2013 13:50

Dark chocolate is only for when there is a National Shortage of Cadburys.
Going OK here, not hungry at all, and turned down a naughty snack at friend's house. Was a bit Shock to discover the bap I was planning to have with my cauli soup (because I got a 4 pack out of the freezer for packed lunches and the children have rejected them) is a stonking 275 calories, but better to know I suppose. I have eaten soup and bap and am stonkingly full. Lamb chops and baked potatoes are wrapped in their little foil packets in the slow cooker for dinner.
Can I publicly say thankyou to all of you, because I have a feeling all of you on this thread and on MFP are going to make this a lot easier than it would have been.

spamm · 10/01/2013 13:54

Sorry - have not read today's additions to the thread, will go back and do it, but I did not have a good day yesterday - I snacked like mad between getting home and dinner, I was so hungry and I had nothing ready and was doing homework with DS.

My danger zone is between getting home and dinner - as DH does evening classes in Taekwondo most nights, and I like to eat with him, as it is his only decent meal of the day. He is a stay at home dad (who desperately wants a job) and he does a lot, but not cooking, so I try and make nice food for him. But he does not get home until 9pm, so I am starving and have usually demolished tons of calories in between, and then have dinner too. This is killing my diet right now....

What do you think? Would it be better to eat apart - although I hate that idea, or should I try to eat something specific? Any suggestions welcome. I know I could talk to him and tell him this is sabotaging my diet and my health, but it is of my own making - he has not asked me to wait for him to come home - so I want to see if I can figure out a solution.

DoubleMum · 10/01/2013 13:54

Annie you can buy little containers to poach your eggs in, or poaching pans.
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004ROHYC2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
I am also going to boil 10 or so eggs at once and keep them in the fridge for snacks and packed lunches, they are good for a few days and my children love eating them like that.

DoubleMum · 10/01/2013 13:58

Spamm I used to have the same problem, DH had a stressful job which often involved very long hours and it was normal for him to not get home until then. If I waited, I definitely snacked and risked getting myself into an 'eat anything in sight' state. He's in a different job now (and spent a long time trying to get a job so I know how your DH feels) and usually we all wait but if he is going to be really late I now eat with the children. If I do, I always make a point of sitting with him while he eats, with a drink, so at least you still have the companionship of a meal.

laurenamium · 10/01/2013 14:02

Just popping on with a confession! I had my very first cervical screening today and was stressing loads about it. I treat myself after with a white chocolate Kitkat chunky Blush I know I'm not a dog and I don't need to give myself treats for doing things I don't want to but it was scary Blush

CarriedAwayAnnie · 10/01/2013 14:10

I've just made biscuits for the dc.

That is lethal.

I can resist a warm biscuit.

CarriedAwayAnnie · 10/01/2013 14:11

Lauren I think everybody deserves a kitkat -and a big glass of wine- after that.

CarriedAwayAnnie · 10/01/2013 14:13

Doublemum thanks for the links. I'm going to buy one them.

Good idea to boil and keep in fridge.

Easy to grab if feeling dangerously peckish.

Sorry for all different posts, am on phone and keep pressing 'post' by mistake!

BaublesAndCuntingCarolSingers · 10/01/2013 14:19

Spamm, when I was doing WeightWatchers there was a Zero Points Soup that I used to use a lot if I needed to bridge a gap i.e not able to eat until later/needed something to keep me going.

Basically, you sweat off onions, carrots, celery in some spray oil until the onions are clearish. Then throw in any vegetable you like such as cauliflour, swede, sweet potato, squash etc (avoid potatoes) add some tinned tomatoes and about a pint and half of vegetable stock. Simmer it all until the veg is soft then blitz it all with a stick blender/processor. Season it and that's it.

It was a life-saver for me. I used to freeze it in those pouches you can get that stand up in the freezer (great for liquidy foods) You can buy them from Home Bargains I think!
