2013 Weight Watchers over here!

The previous thread title and OP wad intended for information only, but as a few people arrived wanting a bit of mutual support, I thought a more specific thread title might be in order, esp if there's anyone else wanting to join in. I think the cashback deal on online membership expires now, anyway.

Can you introduce yourselves with a quick summary of your aims, please?

I'll be doing Weight Watchers online only. DS is nearly 10 weeks and I'm BFing, so I get 40PPs a day, plus the weeklies. I'm not sure how easily the weight will come off with that amount, but can't cut down any further yet.

I have 3 1/2 st to lose altogether. I'm currently 12st 7lb and was 10st pre-DC after previous success with WW. I'd like to go a bit further this time.

My short term goal is to be a bit slimmer for a family wedding next month. Unfortunately I'm the gat cousin and need any extra confidence I can get.

My WI is Thursday. So far, so good. I'm snacking but sticking to my PPs + weeklies. Struggling to get much exercise due to two poorly DCs, but hoping to find time for a DVD today.

Me too. With SW i was just pigging out on massive portions of pasta but now i do weigh count and control everything apart from veg.

Well done SallyBear and onthemetro - great start. I WI tomorrow and am hoping for 2lbs off.

Knock knock (not the start of an amazing joke - just wondered if I could come in please?!)

I joined weight watchers last night in order to shift the last stubborn stone and a half of baby toddler child blubber.

DD is at school and I just dropped DS off at pre-school so I have 2 hours to myself (whoop) to get my head around these pro points.

30 mins in and it seems like the whopping bowl of low fat natural greek yoghurt with berries on top that I just ate was seemingly not so saintly.

Will I ever get my head around this system? I did WW on the old points system between DD and DS but I feel lost with the pro points plan :(

AddictedtoCrunchies · 09/01/2013 13:21

Vajazzler just eating my soup and it seems I may have overdone the chillies somewhat Angry

OrangeLily · 09/01/2013 13:23

Hi. Can I join in. Me and DH went back to WW last night. We did it last January-July and lost loads.

My weigh in wasn't as bad as I thought so I'd gained a stone from my final low weight of 11.1 but still half a stone below my heavy weight of 12.8. I'm now 12.1.

Poor DH is 1/2 a stone over his previous heavy weight which he's gutted at but I knew he was heavier.

Our big issue is binge eating, especially DH so my goal this time is to be much stricter with both of us because I know he just doesn't have the will power.

My other goal is 10st! I haven't done this since I was at school so I'm really hoping its possible. The only problem being we're hoping to conceive this year so may need to put that goal on hold!

We're definitely going to meetings, somehow it inspires us.

Has anyone tried the magazine for inspiration? Can sometimes be pretty good, it's cheaper to buy at meetings.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 09/01/2013 13:33

I got the magazine last night and read it but the format's changed and I'm not sure I like it. I like to read success stories and there aren't so many in there.

Patsy Kensit's body looks fabulous but her head seems too big for it.. or is it just the angle of the publicity shots? DH thinks the same.

SallyBear · 09/01/2013 13:34

I bought a new Tefal frying pan yesterday (the one with the red spot in the middle). I did a dried fried egg in it today (well it had a spray of frylight first), but I was really pleased with the results. I think I maybe investing in a griddle pan next!

OrangeLily · 09/01/2013 13:38

Addicted... Sorry I just meant for the recipes! They can be quite good. Iv started a scrap book type thing in the kitchen I add bits too.

I've got a little ring binder that I cut out things and stick them into. From other mags too - I just work out the points. Come sin handy.

Vajazzler · 09/01/2013 13:52

Whoops addictedGrin I've done that before. The only thing I can recommend is making another batch without chilli in and mixing them together.

onthemetro · 09/01/2013 14:08

Addicted, I hate the success stories Grin Not sure why but they always bore me, I wish I could see someone who has lost the amount I want to lose and get motivated! I like the mag though, the last one came with a little points guide to all their products which will come in handy when I go back to uni at the end of the month and need to eat out.

Yesterday's quinoa and curry was a disaster, the quinoa just didn't cook and I'm still not sure why. So we had some plain cous cous with added cardamoms and lemon with it as well and it was delicious. Never had cous cous with curry before but I definitely recommend it, it's fluffiness goes really well Smile

onthemetro · 09/01/2013 14:10

Chillyigloo, you'll definitely get the hang of it, promise! It's taken me about a week to get my head around it but I feel a lot more confident with the plan now. I have a notebook and I'm writing down everything I eat plus the point values of all the things I eat the most, it's been really helpful and has helped keep me on track and has helped me get my head around points

MathsDebater · 09/01/2013 14:35

Hi Tanfastic, Aldi also do mini porridge sachets for 3pp, the golden syrup ones are lovely.

I used all of my 49 points yesterday... so I have to keep to my 29pp until Monday :(

One of my favourite snacks are curly wurlys, they are only 3pp and also the options hot chocolate with light whipped cream works out to 2pp per mug. (as you can see, I like chocolate)

Tesco also do their lighter option mouses for 2pps but I freeze mine and it's like having ice cream.

Does anyone have any good tips?

LegoAcupuncture · 09/01/2013 16:46

Yikes Maths, what did you eat? Was it yummy?

Had M&S fuller longer pork with bean rice for lunch today 10pp. It was nice, and not feeling hungry.

I'm also using the virtual gastric band app on my ipad and think that is helping mentally.

SallyBear · 09/01/2013 16:50

I'm going to try to cook with Giant Wholemeal Couscous tonight. Not had wholemeal couscous before. I wonder if it will be as nice as the regular type.

tanfastic · 09/01/2013 17:01

Thanks Maths, will def look at those Aldi oats Smile.

A friend has just told me that 3 laughing cow light triangles = 1 point and if you put them
In mash instead of butter you can hardly tell the difference....apparently

SallyBear · 09/01/2013 17:21

I am making chicken marinaded in chilli, garlic and lime juice with giant wholemeal couscous salad. Not had wholemeal couscous before, and I really hope that it works!

SallyBear · 09/01/2013 17:28

Stupid iPhone duplication. Sorry! The jury is out on the couscous. I need to add stuff, and then I'll report back. So far it's a bit er..... Stodgy.

CelticPromise · 09/01/2013 17:32

I've just made a sort of stew of onion fried in spray oil, harissa paste, chickpeas and tomatoes for tea. 4 points each and we'll have it with brown rice. I make it when I'm not dieting with regular oil and a bit of chorizo but it's nearly as nice as it is.

I prefer to adapt things I like rather than try WW recipes. I have been disappointed in the past!

dobby2001 · 09/01/2013 18:16

I have a few of the WW cookbooks and to be fair, I think they are like most of my others, some gems you cook again and again, some that are nice, but a right faff, and some that are a bleeding waste of time Smile

There are often some nice recipes in the "your Wekk" booklet you get at the meetings. They had a lovely butternut squash soup in before Christmas. Have made it a few times now, so will dig it out and post here.

Prawns are good too - you get a lot of them per pro point Grin!!

LegoAcupuncture · 09/01/2013 18:17

Giant Cous Cous is nice, have it in salads sometimes.

Chicken teriyaki for tea tonight 9pp. Might have a owl of ice cream as have some points left over.

Need to lose a stone or so before I will feel comfortable exercising. Was thinking swimming would be a good start.

onthemetro · 09/01/2013 18:21

Ooh, where can you buy giant cous cous from?! It sounds interesting.

Having spaghetti bolognese tonight with a WW chocolate brownie dessert, it's 4pp and absolutely delicious, I used to eat them before doing any sort of dieting Grin

bigTillyMint · 09/01/2013 18:32

Yes, where do you get giant wholemeal couscous from - it sounds nice!

SallyBear · 09/01/2013 18:39

It was a Merchant Gourmet box. They do it as either the wholemeal Giant couscous or just the regular durum giant couscous. I cooked it in stock, drained, then put in a tsp of oil, crushed clove of garlic, a tspn of sweet chilli sauce, grated fresh ginger. Covered and allowed to cool. Squeezed in lemon juice and put in lemon zest, chopped; coriander, cucumber, red pepper and spring onions.
I am serving it with marinaded chicken fillets and a salad.
