2013 Weight Watchers over here!

The previous thread title and OP wad intended for information only, but as a few people arrived wanting a bit of mutual support, I thought a more specific thread title might be in order, esp if there's anyone else wanting to join in. I think the cashback deal on online membership expires now, anyway.

Can you introduce yourselves with a quick summary of your aims, please?

I'll be doing Weight Watchers online only. DS is nearly 10 weeks and I'm BFing, so I get 40PPs a day, plus the weeklies. I'm not sure how easily the weight will come off with that amount, but can't cut down any further yet.

I have 3 1/2 st to lose altogether. I'm currently 12st 7lb and was 10st pre-DC after previous success with WW. I'd like to go a bit further this time.

My short term goal is to be a bit slimmer for a family wedding next month. Unfortunately I'm the gat cousin and need any extra confidence I can get.

My WI is Thursday. So far, so good. I'm snacking but sticking to my PPs + weeklies. Struggling to get much exercise due to two poorly DCs, but hoping to find time for a DVD today.

Right - survived a night at the cinema with only water - NO popcorn or other such rubbish - and it wasn't that hard! (mixed views on Miserables tho).
Out tonight - idea is drinking and curry - that is going to be hard to have within my dailies, may have to do early use of winelies.
Bfast - melon and blueberries (0pp)
Lunch - thai green veg soup (1pp), apple (0pp), banana (0pp)

Am hoping that i'll be well full up (and sooooo healthy!), leaving me 27 points for later :)

Have a good day all!

SallyBear · 29/01/2013 09:55

5 weeklies. That's all I are left before tomorrow's WI. So breakfast is I think going to be porridge (no crumpets and bloody ocado delivered me dark green bananas last week when DS4 had flu), lunch will be poached eggs on nimble wholemeal, and dinner tonight will be cottage pie packed with veg and crushed potatoes on top as opposed to mash. I'm hoping that will be enough to cover the last of my weeklies on the F&H. I hope I've lost something tomorrow, and not just my marbles!

SallyBear · 29/01/2013 10:24

Watching the C4 Dispatches programme. Seriously though, if you look at the ingredients list on a lot of these things it looks like a chemists shopping list for a lab experiment. I'm going to get the Hairy Dieters book. It looks like a healthier choice.

flatmouse · 29/01/2013 10:44

Oooh we have the hairy dieters book - must do more of their recipes. Good luck for tomorrow sally

CiderwithBuda · 29/01/2013 11:53

Morning all.

DublinDoll - great loss! Well done. I'm a Dub too. North side. You?

I'm still struggling. Went well all day yesterday. Had 15 points left mid afternoon. Used 2 at 5pm on a packet of oatie bakes. Had a 10 pp WW curry for dinner. Was planning using the final three on a yoghurt. Did I? No. I had two slices of toast with butter and jam. A slice of cheese. And four biscuits. I have no idea why. As I was doing it I knew I shouldn't. I knew I would be pissed off later. It was like a compulsion. I can't even blame wine as I didn't have any. Am thankful for small mercies.

I really need to figure out why I can't stick to anything. Am toying with giving up WW and trying something else. Poss low carb. Or the 5/2 diet. Or Lighter Life even. Or stapling my mouth shut. Or getting stranded on a desert island with no food.

I have just watched the C4 programme. Watched it instead of actually going to the meeting as I can't face it. I found the bread and crisps interesting. Nothing new in anything else really. I have bought stuff at the meetings but not much. Our leader isn't really into the hard sell and quite often tells us about things she has discovered that fit in easily and are not WW products. She also advocates cooking from scratch and just using WW type meals as emergency fill ins.

Our meeting is full of people who haven't lost but there are also a few inspirations. One girl lost over 100 pounds. We were all in tears when she got to goal. A few others have lost over 60 pounds. And kept it off. The ones who keep it off are those who got to goal and keep coming to the meetings. I do think there needs to be more emphasis on how to keep it off. But most people seem to just go back to they way they were. I noticed the same with Atkins. To do Atkins properly you are supposed to gradually re-introduce carbs till you start to regain. Then you drop back to a level that you don't gain but don't lose. It's your set point. We all have a set point that we need to learn after the initial loss.

Anyway. Doing ok so far today. Granola, yoghurt, blueberries and extra nuts and seeds for breakfast. Just had a banana. Having cauliflower soup for lunch with some leftover lasagna from Sunday. Made with leeks instead of lasagna sheets. It was nice.

SallyBear · 29/01/2013 13:35

Buda, maybe you need to look hard at your eating triggers. We all have them. Today I had to run the gauntlet of the biscuit aisle, and apart from
Grappling some mini breadsticks for DS4, I survived. Or so I thought. I have come home with wholemeal bagels - the brown soda bread was calling to me, but knowing that us slather several slices in thick butter and marmalade I resisted. I have wholemeal bagels. Confused

I'm really trying to keep at it on the F&H and there are days when I would kill for something chocolatey. I just keep reminding myself that I have 86lbs to lose. I'm doing it because I'm 43, I have 4 kids with the youngest being severely autistic and will probably never lead an independent life. That's why I'm doing this. To lessen my chances of type 2 diabetes, to help my health, my heart, to dress the way I want to look not by the fact that I'm a lard arse with limited choices. So lunch today was poached egg on toast and thick leek and potato soup. Stuffed.

SallyBear · 29/01/2013 13:36

Buda - please put your lasagne recipe with the leeks in the WW 2013 recipe thread!! I'd like to try it. X

CiderwithBuda · 29/01/2013 13:57

Sally - no idea what my triggers are. Certainly not for yesterday. Just wanted crap. Actually - that's wrong. I had a sandwich for lunch. Normal white bread. Counted the points so thought would be ok. Obv triggered a craving. It's the blardy wheat. Hmmm. Interesting! Thanks.

The lasagna recipe is in the Hairy Dieters book. Will try post it later.

SallyBear · 29/01/2013 14:04

I bought the hairy blokes book this morning!
Try switching your bread to wholemeal. More filling definitely!

CiderwithBuda · 29/01/2013 15:18

I know I have a problem with wheat and I try to keep away from it. Usually have a wrap or rye bread. Normal white sliced bread is like a drug for me. I'd forgotten as I really don't have it very often.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 29/01/2013 15:21

Sally how was your weigh in or haven't you been yet@ Grin

INeedThatForkOff · 29/01/2013 15:39

Buda, assuming you have some weeklies left, just be brutally honest with yourself and add up what you overate last night. Take it from the 49. That's what it's there for! I find I lose best if I spread them over the week rather than having one big binge. I won't have any left for tomorrow but Thurs is WI so that's probably a good thing.

OP posts:
SallyBear · 29/01/2013 16:05

WI tomorrow. Hoping for a pound off. The best way is to try and find healthy, filling and tasty foods. I'm going to make the Hairy Dieters (HD) Cottage Pie tonight. Haven't had one for ages! Just not using the extra lean steak mince because of its tasteless consistency. Blush

onthemetro · 29/01/2013 17:27

Wow flatmouse, well done on surviving the cinema trip! I don't think I could've gone and just had water, it's just so hard wired in me that when you go to the cinema you get a massive box of popcorn. Bit silly really. I find the same when I'm on the train, I always feel like I have to buy loads of snacks for the journey even if I'm not hungry!

Sorry to hear that you're struggling, Buda. I know what you mean about wanting to try something else - I did Slimming World before WW and it didn't work for me because I'd eat so much and then not lose any weight, but I think WW is working for me. So maybe you just need to find what works for you :)

I watched the Dispatches show last night and was quite shocked at how one sided and biased it was. I'm an ex-journalist so I was almost shouting at the TV about all the little holes in what they were saying because it's just such poor journalism!

I've not seen any evidence of the leader pressuring us to buy products, in fact my leader recommends loads of products. Not many people go to the shop, there's only one girl that does every time - she buys one packet of crisps and that's it. And she doesn't eat it in the meeting like they showed on Dispatches! Grin

In fact there is a lovely lady who always goes to M&S before each meeting and she shows us all the M&S Count on Us goodies she's bought, and the leader always joins in.

I agree about the products being so dreadfully artificial though, but then so are many, many other 'diet' products and it's not like Weight Watchers is the first to do so. And it's definitely possible to do WW without the products.

onthemetro · 29/01/2013 17:28

Sally, did you get the HD book online? I half remember seeing a MN thread about it being quite cheap somewhere but can't for the life of me remember where!

SallyBear · 29/01/2013 17:43

Kindle was £7. Sainsburys £7.99

SallyBear · 29/01/2013 17:43

Sorry about the stupid lack of pound sterling symbol!

onthemetro · 29/01/2013 17:48

Thanks Sally, I have the Kindle app on my iPad so I might just download it later.

OhTheConfusion · 29/01/2013 18:41

Hi everyone, am I too late to join in?

I joined WW today and weighed in at 15st and 1/2 a lb!

DC3 is now 17 months, after I had her I was unwell and needed surgery... I was slowly becoming less active and bigger Sad. I was 10st and a size 12 pre DC1 and would love to get back to that. I have roughly 30weeks until I turn THIRTY so now feels like a good time to sort me weight out for once and all Smile

I am on 33pp plus weekly ones... and have bought the points calculator to try and keep me on the straight and narrow. Also signed up monthly to gain access to the ww website too.

INeedThatForkOff · 29/01/2013 18:56

HD is (was?) £4.99 on The Book People.

Hi OhTheConfusion. Tracking is really easy via the website as it counts down rather than up, including weeklies. I have tha app on Android, and though it's had horrendous reviews, I've found it generally fine.

OP posts:
Livinginorganisedchaos · 29/01/2013 20:54

Hi Confusion, welcome to the thread. I also have the Android app and I have found it really useful esp when I am out and about.

Just survived two potentially difficult diet days. Both days I had to travel quite long distances by train to attend work meetings. Normally, this is when I snack on chocolate and cake and eat fast food on the run. However, I decided to try and plan in advance my meals by taking breakfast and healthly snacks with me and using my mobile WW app to choose meals. Apart from a slight slurge when I got home last night and decided to help DH out with his bowl of crisps, I managed to stay on track. Actually, felt much better for eating better food and much more in control.

I think the mobile app is great for helping stay in track actually and I am thinking it could make a difference when I go on holiday as well.

chillyigloo · 29/01/2013 21:19

WI tonight and lost 2.5lb! I'm so pleased because it's been a rubbish week, though I have tried to be totally honest and track every mouthful, even the ones that eat well into my weeklies. I've done the same as I did last week though (had a loss then had a binge the same night) only this time it was slightly planned. Called in at the chippy on the way home and bought a portion of cod and chips to 'celebrate' my loss Blush . I actually shared it with DH and had the much smaller half, iyswim, so I've tracked it as 28pp and accepted that I've spent 10 of my weeklies on it as well as my leftover points for the day. I started fancying them this morning so I saved my points all day and told myself if I'd lost a lb, I could have them Grin

flatmouse is the thai green verg soup a homemade recipe? Is it as scrumptious as it sounds? Need some new low/no point soup recipes.

Buda please don't give up. We all have totally crap weeks days sometimes, but just draw a crunchie line under it and vow to get it back on track from this point onwards. Crunchie lines are great for damage limitation. Have your blip, draw the line, move on. And maybe stock the fridge with some pre-portioned low point snacks Wink Sugar free jelly is a staple in my fridge these days!

x

OhTheConfusion · 29/01/2013 21:56

Thanks for the tips, I will sort out my online membership stuff tomorrow night when DH is out.

I also need to sort out a weekly meal planner to try and be organised as I am a 'scoff lots as I cook the kids tea' person and that is not good!

Flatmouse, I woud love your thai green veg soup recipie too please Grin

INeedThatForkOff · 29/01/2013 22:14

Well done igloo. Was just about to say you've made me fancy fish n chips, but actually I don't really fancy eating anything. Unheard of!
