2013 Weight Watchers over here!

The previous thread title and OP wad intended for information only, but as a few people arrived wanting a bit of mutual support, I thought a more specific thread title might be in order, esp if there's anyone else wanting to join in. I think the cashback deal on online membership expires now, anyway.

Can you introduce yourselves with a quick summary of your aims, please?

I'll be doing Weight Watchers online only. DS is nearly 10 weeks and I'm BFing, so I get 40PPs a day, plus the weeklies. I'm not sure how easily the weight will come off with that amount, but can't cut down any further yet.

I have 3 1/2 st to lose altogether. I'm currently 12st 7lb and was 10st pre-DC after previous success with WW. I'd like to go a bit further this time.

My short term goal is to be a bit slimmer for a family wedding next month. Unfortunately I'm the gat cousin and need any extra confidence I can get.

My WI is Thursday. So far, so good. I'm snacking but sticking to my PPs + weeklies. Struggling to get much exercise due to two poorly DCs, but hoping to find time for a DVD today.

Celtic and Tan, well done on your losses today Smile

I just had my first week weigh in and 7lbs down so i'm happy with that. Thank God there seems to be no clapping in my meeting.

Welcome Heartbeep

Metro, what sort of exercise have you done more of? I know when I go back to the gym at first my clothes get looser but I seem to gain on the scales, then after a week or so I seem to lose?

NoWay, can you make homemade versions of some dark chocolate, a brazil nut and an apricot and point it out that way?

Cider, would a lovely new journal to track in help to encourage you? I bought a really lovely thing in Paperchase, it is silly I know but a bit of stationary goes a long way with me when I need to make a new start cos i'm shallow

CiderwithBuda · 15/01/2013 11:56

Thanks everyone.

I have a brand new WW journal Magdalen. Know just what you mean about lovely new stationery though! It is a weakness of mine.

I might try F&H for a couple of days. The thing that has put me off that is using my weeklies for normal food if you have something that is not a F&H food. I usually use my weeklies on wine!

So far so good today. Feeling a bit better. Had two crumpets with peanut butter for breakfast. About to have lunch early as need to go to Sainsburys and don't want to go hungry. Having one of those Glorious Skinny soups.

Have menu planned for next few days too.

NoWayNoHow · 15/01/2013 12:05

SOrry, cider x-posted with you before going to work.

I find that once I'm on the road to food hell, I get so despondent that I just keep on down the same path, almost as though I'm punishing myself.

The Filling & Healthy 7 day plan is a great way to get back into the swing of things - every single meal is planned out for you, so you don't have to do any thinkgin, plus there's no tracking involved to you're sort of easing your way back into things. And hopefully a loss at the end of the week will be enough inspiration to carry on down the right path.

tanfastic what a tanfastic result (see what I did there?)! Well done you.

onthemetro the golden rule of WW is don't weigh yourself in between WI! Your body fluctuates so much every day, and will give a different result every day, so weighing in between is either going to make you despondent and derail your efforts, or it will give you a false sense of security which can also lead to derailment. It's SO tricky to refrain, but it's worth it. Also, don't forget that 500g of muscle takes up only a third of the amount of space that 500g fat does, so if you're exercising you might be keeping steady weight-wise, but losing inches.

Magdalen that's a great idea! THanks!

onthemetro · 15/01/2013 12:36

Thanks for the advice guys! I know I shouldn't weigh myself in between meetings, but it's kinda awkward at the moment because I signed up for the monthly pass on Saturday but can't get to a meeting until this Saturday, so I've been in limbo really, especially because when I did it by myself last week I weighed in on a Wednesday! But I won't weigh myself again now until Saturday, and then will only weigh myself each week. I have WW scales in my bathroom that may need to be banished because it's so easy to just jump on and have a sneaky look Grin

I haven't been doing much exercise tbh, just walking, but it's more than I've done for a long time. DP and I keep going for 4 mile walks in the evening on top of the walking I do to and from work, and if I'm not used to it it's probably going to take a while to get used to it.

flatmouse · 15/01/2013 12:45

onthemetro start tracking your measurements - when i first did shred, i hardly lost any weight (a few lbs total but i wasn't exactly trying hard enough) - but i lost LOADS of inches. I know i still need to lose weight as I'm not happy with my weight, but if you see some progress (ie inches) you don't get as despondent!

Well done to some amazing losses. cider i can't advise - but try to get some motivation from us newbies who are all keen at the moment! (and wise words from those, like you, who have been doing this for much longer).

CelticPromise · 15/01/2013 14:08

Hi all, thank you for encouraging comments Smile

Sally I find it easy to slip out of the habit of exercise and it's always tough to start again. But I know from experience that I feel so much better, mentally and physically, if I do it. So I know I'm lucky because I really do enjoy it once I get the habit back. It helps to clear my head. Just got to keep it up!

I'm tracking every point at the moment as it helps motivate me, so every little walk goes on the tracker.

CelticPromise · 15/01/2013 14:14

metro I second advice to avoid the scales between meetings! Also DH often finds his loss seems to be a week 'behind'. Perhaps you are like him?

Cider the times when I have gone totally off the rails I have sometimes found it helpful to set a date for restarting, say in two days' time. I give myself permission to not track for a day or two and sometimes I just need the break with no pressure to get motivated to start again with a vengeance!

INeedThatForkOff · 15/01/2013 14:53

Really well done Celtic, tanfastic and Magdalen.

metro, one other thing I would add is that even if you haven't had a result by your official WI, keep going and you may well see a better loss the second week. That's how it used to work for me.

NoWayNoHow · 15/01/2013 18:11

Can I just ask a quick question? I've always done WW online, so Im not massively familiar with the Filling and Healthy plan. I'm using the 7 day meal plan online, but would I be right in assuming that, provided they are things on the F&H list, I can eat anything I want and as much of it as I want (unless it states a limit on the daily portion)?

CiderwithBuda · 15/01/2013 18:19

Thanks everyone.

Noway - I will have a look at the 7 day plan. Sounds good.

Celtic - that is what I have been doing for six months! I need to break that cycle.

Today has been good so far. I feel more in control. I have tracked. I haven't craved for anything. Breakfast was a bit high in points - shouldn't have had the peanut butter.

Went to Sainsburys and stocked up on fruit, yoghurt etc.

Dinner tonight is ham, cabbage and roasted veg. Might have a tiny bit of mashed potato.

Am off out to a PTA meeting so won't be tempted to have wine with dinner.

Thanks again for the support. I was SO down about it all.

Feeling much more positive now.

CiderwithBuda · 15/01/2013 18:21

Noway - you do need to be careful with the portion sizes. The leader at the meeting I go to says you need to be confident you know your portion sizes and won't overeat. I know they don't recommend it for new members till they have been on WW for a while.

NoWayNoHow · 15/01/2013 18:40

Thanks cider - it's not so much the portions, as I tend to stick with recommended WW portions anyway. More about food combinations, I guess. For example, if I don't want to have the frozen berry and yogurt smoothie as the snack they recommend for today, can I substitute that for some low fat cottage cheese? Or is the plan organised in such a way that the smoothie has been chosen because of the meal that's planned for dinner that day has an inherent value pp that's quite high, even if I'm not supposed to be tracking it (IYSWIM).

I guess I'm after an idea of how F&H works when NOT following one of the plans. I.e any food combo on any day provided it's on the F&H list?

SallyBear · 15/01/2013 18:52

Noway. I don't use the menu plans. I just follow the food list and have what I fancy off the list. Today: Breakfast was crumpets and bananas, lunch was chunky vegetable soup & a bacon sandwich. Dinner is going to be bubble & squeak cakes and gammon. So I will have used 1pp for spread on the bread, 1pp for semi skimmed milk, leaving 5pp to use for wine tonight. All my food is off the food list.

CelticPromise · 15/01/2013 19:24

Well done Cider sounds like a good start!

My running buddy has cancelled for tomorrow, pavements where we run are too icy, so I'm googling for alternatives. Zumba maybe.

We're having Nigella's red seasonal salad tonight from the Feast book, it's fantastically delicious as well as healthy. Will try to find a link tomorrow to put on the recipe thread.

Heartbeep · 15/01/2013 19:41

thanks for the warm welcome Smile & congrats on all the losses.

i wondered if anyone could advise if its possible to set a new WL goal on the WW android app?

NoWayNoHow · 15/01/2013 20:07

Thanks sally - I have a feeling that F&H is going to be the way forward for me. I REALLY like the idea of not having to track everything I eat, but I also think that, health-wise and nutrition wise, it's more in line with what I want to achieve (I am having my gallbladder out soon and really ought to be keeping to a low fat/low processed diet).

Just sounds like it's so much easier to manage!

2kidsintow · 15/01/2013 20:19

I've stuck to my points for my first week (with a little wobble here and there a I got used to it again) and I've lost 2lb. Grin

I'm going to kick off my next week with my weekly zumba class and have found a swimming session I can attend on my day off, when the kids are in school. Grin All good.

LegoAcupuncture · 15/01/2013 20:24

Definitely step away from those scales mid week. The ones at the meeting are special scales and won't reflect on your home scales.

Another good day. DH at work until 9pm so usually I'd snack on whatever, but being good and eating fruit.

Doing curry tomorrow and making cauli rice with it. Saves tons of points.

LegoAcupuncture · 15/01/2013 20:25

Well done on the loss 2kids.

jazzcat28 · 15/01/2013 21:15

Hi all!

Well done on the losses!

Can I suggest a meal? Ratatouille made with 0pt veg, tinned toms and passata, grilled chicken/steak and either a portion of rice/pasta. We are having this once a week and because we can have a huge helping of ratatouille it's v filling. Add a splash of balsamic vinegar and Harissa spices to it too... Yum

Had a rough day at work - back to back meetings from 8-4 with half hour lunch meant that my day looked like this (am not proud)

Breakfast - costa primo skinny latte (2pp) and a banana

Lunch - pre packed prawn sandwich (11pp!!!!) and a bottle of diet coke

Dinner - WW spag bol with double portion of pasta (14pp)

I was starving all day and gagging for carbs and sugar but managed to resist! Tomorrow looks like a quieter day in comparison so hopefully can have more WW friendly food

FrogsgoLaDiLaDiLa · 15/01/2013 23:39

Hello! I'd love to join you all if that's ok? I've moved to the US and have joined online but I think the system is pretty similar to the UK. I am hoping to lose around 1 1/2 stone/maybe 2 with as much of that as possible before the summer. Last year I felt so self conscious when it was really hot and I felt like I needed to keep covered up whilst so many people around me were wearing vest tops and teeny shorts. I think I'm past the teeny short stage now but feeling ok about wearing something skimpier would be amazing. We are also getting closer to TTC and being as fit and healthy as possible before that is a huge motivation. For the first time ever I'm actually being honest and logging everything and anything that I eat/drink and fingers crossed it's working. It's so easy to think if you don't log it, you never ate/drank it, especially if it's wine!

Anyway, the losses and recipes on here have been so inspiring. I'm really looking forward to staying motivated with you all. And if anyone can kick my arse into gear and make me start week 2 of Couch25K tomorrow that would be bloody brilliant!

SallyBear · 16/01/2013 00:25

Welcome Frogs. I've just started back after 18 months of denial and procrastination. Confused

flatmouse · 16/01/2013 08:47

lego what is cauli-rice?

SallyBear · 16/01/2013 08:47

3lbs off this week. Filling and Healthy must be working. GrinGrin

flatmouse · 16/01/2013 08:52

Well done SallyBear!
