To run concurrently with BIWI's Low Carb Bootcamp - the 30 Day Shred challenge! Come and chat about all things Shred here, and feel free to moan talk about other types of exercise too.

Oh God, now I actually have to do it!

Thanks. What's the dvd called? Saw one one amazon for beginners but only plays on region 1 players. Don't want to get the wrong one and kill myself! Might need to unpack the box with my trainers in as well and dust the cobwebs off!

prettybird · 11/01/2013 19:42

BunBagFreddie - I'm doing Ripped in 30 at the moment (got up to Level 3 before Christmas but I have started back on Level 1). I think it's harder than the Shred - I'm certainly stiffer when I start it again.

There are also a couple of exercises in Level 2 and Level 3 that I physically can't do (I have short arms) so I've had to work out my own alternatives.

I haven't dared look at Level 4 yet! Grin

LucyVFood · 11/01/2013 20:33

L1D5! I feel MUCH better than I did yesterday. It was okay! I didn't swear at Gillian and I did most of the stuff without stopping. Still no weight loss though :(

Toddle · 11/01/2013 20:53

Woohoo! L1d7 complete. This is the first exercise I've done in about 3 years. I had ds 6 months ago and suffered horrendously with pgp couldn't even walk to the shops. I'm very impressed with myself for doing it for a whole week. Level 2 is getting too close for comfort though.

BunFagFreddie · 11/01/2013 21:05

The 30 Day Shred DVD gives you lower impact options poohbear. You can do the more difficult ones if you want to.

prettybird I've heard people say some really good things about ripped. I'm going to try that after the shred so thanks. Smile

Keep at it Lucy and Toddle. It really does get easier. I have lost 2 pounds since Xmas, but that's more to do with not stuffing my face and drinking every day. Blush Fwiw I started the shred at the beginning of December and I only lost a couple of pounds by Christmas, but I lost inches which came back over Crimbo and then some.

prettybird · 11/01/2013 21:31

Level 2 of The Shred is my least favourite one - especially Circuit 1. I hate all the mountain climbers and plank jacks in the aerobic bits and the Chair Squats with V raises.

I found Level 3 more copable with I'm not going to say easier Wink

poohbearrules · 11/01/2013 22:21

Thanks bunfagfreddie, I'm going to order it now. No time like the present! Got four weeks till christening, hope I can still walk and maybe half a stone lighter, or is that too optimistic?! You all give me hope!

Notfootball · 11/01/2013 22:23

prettybird I'm with you on the v raises, my shoulders kill me and then she gives us some more plank moves! I'm on L2D9, cannot wait to say goodbye to level 2 after tomorrow.

BunFagFreddie · 11/01/2013 22:40

No probs poohbear. I'm sure you'll notice the difference. Smile

I'm with both of you prettybird and Notfootball. Level 2 is a killer and the V raises really hurt! Level 3 is definitely more copable with.

I'm still going to do the shred in the morning and evening, but I'm going to bring it down to alternating days. I might end up doing myself a wrongun otherwise.

When I'm feeling braver I'll try a bit of Ripped, 6 pack and killer buns and thighs.

cafecito · 12/01/2013 00:40

L1D6 done! much easier today, probably because I just did it just now when I got home (I was veeeery cold) and my windows had been left open...and I actually wanted to jump around and warm up. try it at home - subzero temperatures!

cafecito · 12/01/2013 00:41

NO to twice a day. Just NO Grin but I am trying to do other stuff as well as shred (I need a rapid result to keep me going) today I walked 3km, wednesday I did shred + zumba (and could not walk the next day)

ScarletLady02 · 12/01/2013 09:28

So....I managed to do L1D2 despite REALLY hurting still....I actually feel better after exercising. A bit wobbly but nowhere near as bad as the first day. Tomorrow will be the key, I'll see how I am then.

Mrsrobertduvall · 12/01/2013 14:01

Did day eight this morning at 8am, and had brisk walk too.

ScarletLady02 · 12/01/2013 14:27

I went for a brisk walk today as well....made my aches and pains MUCH better. I swear I was breathing better as well. There's a hill near us that normally gets me puffed out when I push the buggy up it. Seemed easier today.

LucyVFood · 12/01/2013 19:55

Oh yeah! Day 6, bring it on!

I enjoyed it today! Reckon by the end of next week I'll be able to do it all the way through without substituting some slightly pathetic moves in places to give myself a five-second breather. I'm still easy girl though, not hard as nails Natalie.

I know that sounds a bit sad compared to some of you lot (TWICE a day!?!) but it's good for me, honest.

TooImmatureMincePies · 12/01/2013 20:00

I didn't do it yesterday...I had a Friday feeling and just didn't want to. However, I have done it today, so L1D6 is down! Level 2 scares me - I've heard very bad things about it and I tried it once and it was hellish. I've blocked the details, though.

I still can't do real press-ups. I used to be able to, so why can't I now? I have a new rug and my hands seem to slide on it, but the carpet felt just as slippery. Must stop phoning it in mid-press-up! The rest of it is getting easier, but the press-ups are vile. I know Level 2 feature lots of plank-type thingies, so I need more arm strength!

KiteyDelighty · 13/01/2013 00:00

L1d8 today and it felt ok and I even managed a couple of normal press ups not just the knee ones. I definitely need to buy proper weights as the water bottles are only 600g each and they feel too easy now so I have definitely improved since L1d1. I blew the mfp calorie allowance on 5 prosecco cocktails tonight and although I did dance a little it won't have compensated for them.

Mrsrobertduvall · 13/01/2013 10:23

Despite getting in at midnight after much wine and pudding (!) I have done day nine.

Is anyone looking like Natalie yet?

WillieWaggledagger · 13/01/2013 12:24

You are all doin so well - I have been hopeless and only done it once this week. I am now at pil's house until tonight, but from tomorrow I will start again no excuses. Will start from day one again I think

LucyVFood · 13/01/2013 19:18

Shock After midnight Mrs? Wow, that's what I call dedication.

D7L1 gone. Get me exercising on a Sunday!

Lavenderhoney · 13/01/2013 20:01

I'm going to get back on team shred tomorrow! Doc said no reason why I can't continue. However due to dh having to manage the dcs alone:) which he did very well, I had 4.5 hours of housework this morning. Non stop! Everywhere was a mess, toys, clothes etc etc.

Still it's all lovely now. Looking forward to rolling my eyes at Gillian exhorting me to grunt:)

BabyLabyrinth · 13/01/2013 20:12

A bit late, but I'm in.

I've been shredding since 1 Jan, just did L2D1 tonight (after having a break Friday and Saturday), but my knees are killing me! Does anyone else have that? Do you all have proper trainers or do you do it in bare feet?

Keep going, everyone! My legs turned to jelly the first few days, then it suddenly got easier.

prettybird · 13/01/2013 20:47

You need to be careful in L2 on the lunges to think of your torso going up and down and rather forward and back. That way, you don't go over your knees and put pressure on them.

I actually prefer to do the Shred/Ripped in bare feet on a thick rug/carpet (and a sprung wooden floor) as I can then feel the "suspension"/absorption of the impact when I'm jumping as I land on my toes, through my foot and then bend my knees. I did ballet for moany years and that was what I was taught to do.

TooImmatureMincePies · 13/01/2013 21:42

BabyLabyrinth, I tried it once (I mean, it was few months ago and I did about 5 days and then gave up) without trainers and it definitely made my knees sore. Doing it in trainers this time feels better. My floor is plywood over cement, with carpet and a rug covering the stains, so perhaps on a sprung floor it wouldn't have hurt. I was reading about barefoot running, hence why I tried it barefoot, but maybe you have to adjust to the barefoot thing first before trying to Shred!

Anyway, L1D7 is down!

Toddle · 13/01/2013 23:48

Just done L1D8. I didn't do it yesterday and it was much harder after having a day off. Or I guess it could also be I've only just done it at 11pm when I usually do it at 11am Grin.

My knees don't feel too bad. The right hand side of my left shin is really hurting though. Had a quick google and shin splints came up Confused (as close to a confused looking face I could see). Ill ask dh in the morning.

I think I can see a little difference to my waist/under bra but that's about it. Dh said my bum is a bit firmer but probably wishes he didn't when I asked him if he was trying to imply it was saggy before. Is anyone seeing a difference on themselves or the scales?
