Anyone else doing slimming world?

Hi all, I joined slimmig world yesterday as I finally ready and motivated to get this weight off. Anyone else? Is there a support thread for those following slimming world? As I couldn't see one on here. If not anyone interested in helping to support each other here?

I've been going to SW since April, I've lost just over a stone in total but it all stalled just before Christmas when we moved house. I do go to group because it's a tiny group - the early evening one has about 20 people but ours (at 7.30) only has eight so it's tiny and friendly and we have a right laugh.

I'm getting back on track this week, weigh-in is Wednesday and I'll be right back on it from then on.

Right after I finish this rather nice bottle of Wine... Blush

OK so I decided that despite my new year enthusiasm if I'm honest I won't do this on my own. I joined a group today, yes it was a little cringey although she didn't dwell too much on individuals and concentrated more on the new book. If I don't have that weigh target each week I think I may slip too many times to achieve any great weight loss.

Cleaned out fridge. Just had a use up lunch with DH. Beef in red wine tonight from current mag!

11 st 4, which means that ideally I'd like to lose 1 and a 1/3 pounds a week. I'd be more than happy with one though!

So, starting today: fruit and yogurt for breakfast, beans on toast with an egg and grilled tomatoes for lunch. Investigating a veggie/carb supper, maybe an experimental risotto.

Really encouraging to read all your successes. I'm hoping that by posting on here every week I'll feel a bit like I'm going to group, and remain focussed. Thanks me23 for starting the thread!

I had a very naughty plate of crumpets for breakfast, but they were my only Syns - lunch was homemade spag bol over a jacket potato, tea is gammon with mashed potatoes, cabbage and carrots.

I want to lose about 1 1/2 stone. My biggest downfall is yogurt - I love it, but the dairy-free Alpro yogurts are 2 Syns each. Why can't they make lovely Syn-free yogurts like Muller!

What's the 3 tin soup Blondes?

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/01/2013 17:40

tin of toms, tin of carrots in water and tin of beans (personally use heinz) then again blondes is a snob lol Grin

add all together with some stock and then whizz and heat and serve whever you want it

syn free and yummy, though weird taste as in beans in soup

I asked one of the blokes at work to pick up some chopped fruit for me at lunchtime and he came back with a Sainsbos pack of 400g of grapes, melon, watermelon, mango and pineapple.
It was absolutely delicious , but I ate the whole damn box!! Not sure if I might regret this later on this eve.Blush

oops can you have your yogurts as a "b" choice? Think this was recommended to a dairy free friend of mine who shares the same problem.

My typical dinners are

spag bol
chilli
carbonara
risotto - I use the mushroom Gallo one which takes 12 mins and is sin free.

Oh today was going so well. Notice I am saying 'was'.

Porridge for breakfast. (1 syn for sugar)

Banana, grapes and Satsuma for snacks.

Jacket potato and beans for lunch.

4 finger kit kat (11 syns I think)

Then it all went downhill;

Snacked on fruit and chopped pepper whilst cooking and had a very SW friendly stir fry of quorn chunks, rice, egg and onion with soy sauce.

Than made the huge mistake of making drop scones for my children. I ate about 5 of them (they are tiny though) with a few mouthfuls of Nutella thrown in for good measure. Oh dear.

Than I started scoffing nuts and even had a Lindt choc.

Evening bingeing is my downfall. I don't know why I do it. Its just a habit. As ridiculous as it sounds I find dealing with the children at that time so stressful. Cooking a meal, stopping them fighting, the bathing, the whole putting to bed thing.

So I need find answers; I was hungry at work so went straight for the kit kat but should have had fruit. I should also insist on fruit for after meals as the children barely eat any fruit and clearly cooking drop scones is not a good idea when on a diet!

Should I add up the syns for today and not eat any for until they are cancelled out or would you just start again tomorrow?

I'm really interested in trying Slimming World. Need to loose about 2 stone, my downfall is really loving calorific food and barely touching fruit and vegetables Blush.

Unfortunately though, I'm also embarking on an economy drive. Can anyone tell me if Slimming World is 'doable' on a budget?

Samnella - I started SW in November and did really well upto Christmas. Was unwell over Christmas itself but New Year we went to stay with my mum who doesn't do healthy eating! I did really week all day today but in the last hour have demolished probably a packet of biscuits Confused it is boredom/munchies in the evening. Tomorrow is my first weigh in since Christmas Eve...

BillyBollyBrandy · 08/01/2013 20:56

Add them up Samnella, then you can know how many syns you've had so can make a more informed choice next time you want to do it iykwim.

I was blithely eating Perle du Lait coconut yoghurt thinking it was about 3/4 sins. 9 BLOODY SYNS!!!! That's a mars bar virtually! I'm not wasting that on yogurt Grin

Owlfright imo yes it is as it is about fresh food and cooking. I go to Aldi and can get all my fresh fruit and veg, meat for pasta/chilli dishes etc there. I get my muller yogurts and gallo risotto from Tesco as they are sin free. You can make most dishes veggie, either without any meat or with quorn.

BadRoly · 08/01/2013 20:57

Owl fright - I think it is as you have lots of fruit/veg and on Easy, wholewheat pasta/rice and jacket pots are unlimited too. The meat probably is dearer because you are using the leanest cuts but you can have smaller amounts of meat and more veg...

Thanks billie, I can see this requiring quite a few changes from me to make it work- organisation to meal plan and ensure I have correct ingredients, motivation to cook from scratch and determination not to snack on rubbish.

In a way a 'lazier' slimfast type approach would suit me better, but I know that would be a rubbish approach.

I want and need to loose weight, but I know that the changes required will need a lot of determination. I'm Hopi g that if I go to the classes they will help me find the motivation that I need.

I know what you mean. but once you get used to it, say in a month, it is just as easy as ready meals/crap. Trust me I've been there Grin

I agree with Billy Bolly that you get into it - I was getting right back into menu planning and so on. I figure this week is a write off getting back into normality and I'll be off and running next week.

I shall also have fed all the tins of biscuits we were given to the children or binged on them each evening which will help!

SW certainly can be done on a budget. I have roughly £220 a month for all food and groceries and we manage it. Frozen veg is a lot cheaper and I get salad/fruit from Aldi.

Not too bad for me, gained 3lb. Was expecting more so I'm ok with that. Gonna success express this week, with lots of veg soup too, should see it back off by next week

Oh dear samella :( but think of it as a blip and one day

Why do you use sugar and not canderal etc? If you have every day that's 7syns wasted

Sounds like you are hungry so pick at bad foods

Have mugshots on hand - love the spicy sweet and sour

Boiled eggs

Grapes / fruit

Dairy lea triangles - can be used as a I think

Homemade veggie soup

2.5 stone to lose here, started the Couch to 5K running thing too so feeling pretty good.

P.S. everyone please note it's LOSE not LOOSE (for the sake of my sanity - thanks)

Can I join you all please? I have just started doing SW - I have the books etc. from when I joined online last year (and then completely ignored it) but I'm determined to get going this time. I don't have chance to join a group so I need some support!

I have also bought the January SW magazine so we are working our way through the recipes...

Paella, fish pie, veggie chilli - all good
Tuna pasta bake and brocolli & potato bake - ok but a bit wierd

Just waiting for Sainsbury's to call to query why I have ordered three tubs of Quark instead of my usual half a dozen bottles of wine Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/01/2013 22:34

Beanandspud - wine is so high on sw :(

I tend to have a gin and slim or diet coke - yes weird but people have vodka and coke :)

Mugshots are like cuppa soups and made with water in a cup but with pasta - think batchelors but not sure - those that are less then 1% fat are free

Bloody yummy and fill you up :)

Chicken one I thought bland - Tom one ok but fav one is sweet and sour - cheese one is syned

Blondes I think I will also be on the G&SLT! Trying to have a fairly 'dry' January but I know I will look forward to a token Friday drink...

Are you supposed to use up all of your syns? Most days I haven't been close but not sure if this is a bad thing? I have been eating loads of fruit and veg instead of snacking so haven't really needed them.
