No spreadsheet to link to this week, as the LBD challenge is now over!

I don't know about anyone else, but I have definitely not had the greatest of weeks, and I'm keeping on keeping on until we get to Christmas.

Not quite sure yet what my own Christmas strategy is going to be, but I also guess it depends on where I've got to with my weight by then. I know that, having achieved my first major target of losing 2 stones, I still have more to go. So my next really major, very psychological target, will be to reach 9 stone. Something I have been trying (and failing) to do for the last 10 years! But now it seems so much more achieveable, especially with all you lot giving such brilliant support.

This week for me starts with a super strict day today. I'm out to dinner tomorrow, with a groups of ex colleagues, and venue is not yet chosen, but is likely to be a Chinese, which always brings its own problems. not to mention the wine

I'm also out to lunch on Friday, so it looks like Wednesday and Thursday will also have to be super strict!

[grin]@clean grass and snails.

BigStickBIWI · 12/01/2013 14:26

Ewan - if you need more fat, how about oily dressing on salads? And salads don't always have to mean lettuce. I make a green bean salad - cook the beans till just tender; drain; chop a shallot or two, and in the pan you cooked the beans, add a generous glug of olive oil and saute the shallot. When softened, add the beans back into the pan and braise for around 5 minutes or so. Just before serving splash in a bit of wine vinegar; cook it off and then put into a serving dish; serve either warm or cold.

Jacaqueen · 12/01/2013 14:35

Half you are staring to enjoy this recuperation aren't you?

I have taken to 'drinking' olive oil with a little vinegar in order to make sure my fat levels remain high. I did try eating some coconut oil but it makes me nauseous, though I do love it in a stir fry.

halfthesize · 12/01/2013 14:38

Jacqueen yes perhaps a little too much.. Things will be back to normal soon, me running round juggling everything like a nutter. Whilst DH tells me how good he was whilst I was recuperatingWink
Not sure I could drink olive oilHmm I just smother salad with it and lots of butter on veg.

vnmum · 12/01/2013 15:03

half i had a bartholins cyst removed when i was in secondary school. I have suffered from hydratinitis suprativa (?sp, it's been on embarrassing bodies) since puberty really and was told it was linked to hormones. I always get flare ups the week before my period but since starting this woe i have hardly any and those i do have are alot smaller and less painful. I was on virtually constant antibiotics for it but stopped taking them about 10 years ago and just put up with it because they would clear it up but it would just come back when i finished the 3 month course.

On a low carb note. I am definately in ketosis but not losing. I hope i get a whoosh soon.

Doshusallie · 12/01/2013 15:41

This is going to sound like a very stupid question considering how long we have been doing this but.....I have never actually noticed/checked/been bothered about whether I am in Ketostis or not but am actually quite interested now.....how would I know?

halfthesize · 12/01/2013 16:03

vnmum thats really interesting that it was all hormone linked, fingers crossed that lcarbing will help mine too. Just read up on hydratinitis suprativa that must have been horrible for you.

dosh I think its when you have no real appetite, I seem to also have strange taste in my mouth, not sure if linkedHmm

BigStickBIWI · 12/01/2013 17:41

If you're keeping your carbs low, you should be in ketosis, Dosh. The metallic/odd taste in the mouth is only a temporary thing. Otherwise, it's when your appetite is under control/you don't get ravenously hungry between meals.

If you want to check, you can buy ketostix (Boots sell them), but I think it's a waste of money actually.

Why are you suddenly concerned?! Grin

Doshusallie · 12/01/2013 18:02

Dunno really, just wondered. Appetite not in control AT ALL today as have a mild hangover and have grazed all day, all low carb though. But generally it is.

Hog bites = nicer than pork scratchings.....

BigStickBIWI · 12/01/2013 18:06

If you are eating your food in the following proportions: fat/protein/carbs, and you are keeping your carbs under around 60g per day, you should be in ketosis. If you have been doing it consistently, that is.

You're maintaining your weight around the same 3lbs, aren't you?

Doshusallie · 12/01/2013 18:32

Yep. Was 9 2 on Friday, never go above 9 4.

BigStickBIWI · 12/01/2013 18:35

Your body will be burning fat in your food for fuel then, rather than any bodily fat, I presume? (Am guessing here!)

I believe that when you 'stick' at a certain weight, as you seem to have done, that that's as far as your body is prepared to go. I'll see if I can find more out about that for you.

Doshusallie · 12/01/2013 20:07

Thanks BIWI. Thanks. I genuinely never cheat apart from maybe nuts and low carb alcohol.

Doshusallie · 12/01/2013 20:14

( and not bothered enough by it to buy Ketostix - like you, one of my fave things about this woe is not counting anything. Too much of my life has been spent in the mindset of "I'll eat that but do 10 minutes more running at the gym tomorrow to make up for it" and I am not going back there ever again. In an American sit com once "will and grace" maybe? there was a scene in a restaurant - the character has moved to LA where it was considered normal for people to chew a mouthful and then spit it out in a napkin so they could enjoy the taste of what they were eating but not risk ingesting the calories - I am mortified to admit that my twisted attitude to food when I was younger saw me doing things like that. Never again)

ToomuchWaternotWine · 12/01/2013 22:26

I remember a scene like that dosh, the one I saw it was when the Sex and the City girls had an episode in LA, and Miranda went out for steak with a male friend of hers, he was doing that spitting the food in a napkin thing. Weird.

JessicaWakefield · 13/01/2013 00:06

TooMuch you're absolutely right. It's one of the things that weirds Miranda out about being in LA and makes her yearn for NYC.

Doshusallie · 13/01/2013 08:37

Yes it was sitc well remembered.

BigStickBIWI · 13/01/2013 09:29

Dosh - I love you for this:

I genuinely never cheat apart from maybe nuts and low carb alcohol.

i remember a time also when i lived in the gym and all i thought about was burning off what i was eating.... i am years away from that now, and love the fact that if i exercise, its either for enjoyment, or because i want to get toned. i can go out for a nice walk and enjoy the scenery now! i remember the compulsion i once had! part of me liked it, but part of me knew i was under a bondage.

now i am just getting rid of those last thoughts and behaviours that aren't good. dieting (or eating healthy...whatever) is and always will be a way of life for me, and when i cheat or overeat its because im in a panic or something, not cos i actually wanted to.. something has always triggered it. im learning to identify what those triggers are and avoid them and distract myself.

ive just entered my food into fitday, and ive read that the ideal amount of protein for me to be having a day is around 60g. well i entered 2 eggs for today, and a tin of tuna and some cheese, and that brings it to 60. so does that mean if i have eggs for breakfast and tuna for lunch then i shouldn't have protein for tea? i wonder if the figure of having 60g a day takes into account a low carb eating plan, or if that is the general gov recommendation which of course, we are not following.

MrsHerculePoirot · 13/01/2013 10:13

Jan I think that is general recommendationt that we aren't following - no couting required remember! I saw a low carb/keto thing that said 150g of protein a day so definitely more than the 60g. Glad to hear that the old behavious are changing - mine too!

Yesterday some friends came over and bought us some hotel chocolat chocolates. We bought a small pack of 5 chocolate brownies for them and DD had made some hello kitty biscuits the day before. DH and I watched a film last night and despite there being a moment or considering it - we didn't eat any of them and are taking them round to my parents house later. Instead we treated ourselves to sugar free jelly. The old us would have scoffed the lot and probably gone out and gone some crisps, popcorn or god knows what.

I didn't weigh this morning to keep the surprise for tomorrow!

MrsRinky not sure if you are still following this thread? I put your frittata recipe as a breakfast frittata recipe on the recipe thread - hope that was OK! Whilst doing it I saw all the recipes that Gless transferred over - I had not seen how much you had done before - it is bloody brilliant!

jan2013 · 13/01/2013 10:27

Mrs thats good to know. the ratio is fat, protein and then carbs but there still needs more fat in my diet so will work on that.

well done for you having the sugar free jello instead! its good to have something there safe to nibble on it really helps. i have a pile of almond flour so as soon as bootcamp finishes imgoing to do something with it in terms of low carb baking (ive been saying this for yonks but actually am going to lol)

yeh, im not looking foward to the weigh in tomorrow! i don't think ive gained i really hope not!

dd is gone today. struggling not to have bad feelings against my husband.... need to forgive, but can't stand him at the minute!! wish i didn't have to see him 3 flipping times a week. hows everyone else?

vnmum · 13/01/2013 10:54

I too need to work on my ratios. I think i am eating more protein than fat but can't seem to work out how to switch it around. I generally have eggs or eggs and bacon or full fat yog for breakfast, tuna or chicken salad dressec in oil with some olives for lunch, with mayo too, and some form of meat or fish with either salad or veg for tea. I eat the fat on bacon but my other meats tend to be chicken or pork or stewing beef. I do add butter to veg and fry in butter et .

half i class myself as lucky in that i only got it in my groin, not under my arms, so although when it was at it's worst i couldn't ride a ike for instance, at least it was hidden IYKWIM.

Off for a run this morning. The sun is out but it is cold. I am either keen or stupid Grin

ToomuchWaternotWine · 13/01/2013 12:06

Well done all you old pattern resisters!! Here's my Blush coming up cos I failed spectacularly yesterday. Had my usual 2 scrambled eggs in butter and cream for B, then had mushroom soup in a cafe for lunch after taking Ds to his swim lesson.

After I had dropped Ds back home with his dad, I popped round to say hello to my lovely Italian friend that I've not seen since Xmas. Well, she had a panettone open (if you don't know, it's like a light sweet sponge cake, quite traditional round the festive season) and she was like an Italian Mrs Doyle, G'wan G'wan G'wan. So I had a piece. Then the floodgates opened, I had some of the crumble DH had left, Ds unwanted toast and a hobnob late at night. And I have NO idea why!!!!! Hmm I wasn't stressed, or upset about anything. There is a job I'm thinking of applying for, but that's exciting rather than stressful IYKWIM.

Gah. I feel bloated, tired and fed up this morning, as expected. I didn't even really enjoy them, except the panettone, probably cos it was "first" and I got more of a reaction for my taste buds from the different flavour.

So back on plan today. I feel better for writing this down. Not expecting great results tomorrow but I just need to keep going as I know the benefits. Have a good Sunday everyone!

WillieWaggledagger · 13/01/2013 12:15

I thought dp and I were keenos this morning going out for a three hour walk at 8am this morning, but with all the running and rowing and gymming I am feeling pathetic in comparison!

I am supposed to be shredding, I am on the shred boot camp thread and have only done it once this week. I will go and confess all later today, think I will restart with day one tomorrow

jan2013 · 13/01/2013 12:26

its progress, not perfection, which counts :)
