No spreadsheet to link to this week, as the LBD challenge is now over!

I don't know about anyone else, but I have definitely not had the greatest of weeks, and I'm keeping on keeping on until we get to Christmas.

Not quite sure yet what my own Christmas strategy is going to be, but I also guess it depends on where I've got to with my weight by then. I know that, having achieved my first major target of losing 2 stones, I still have more to go. So my next really major, very psychological target, will be to reach 9 stone. Something I have been trying (and failing) to do for the last 10 years! But now it seems so much more achieveable, especially with all you lot giving such brilliant support.

This week for me starts with a super strict day today. I'm out to dinner tomorrow, with a groups of ex colleagues, and venue is not yet chosen, but is likely to be a Chinese, which always brings its own problems. not to mention the wine

I'm also out to lunch on Friday, so it looks like Wednesday and Thursday will also have to be super strict!

Well here I am again folks 3am! Aargh! At least I've been useful, the washing is hung up to dry, the dishwasher is on, I've sorted the recycling and papers. I woke up with "restless legs" and I'm better to get up and move around when that happens. All accompanied by my faithful Labrador, giving me that "I don't know what you're doing, but I luuuuuuuurve you" look in the hope of an extra Bonio biccy (yes he got a half).

halfthesize · 08/01/2013 07:00

Oh no Toomuch you will be flaking by mid afternoon..

Well I've been up since 5am, just about to leave for the hospital, finger crossed it does not get cancelledHmm

Have fab days everyoneSmile

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/01/2013 07:30

Good luck half!

To be fair it is a completely different way if thinking about food - I seem to recall most if us had questions for a few weeks and then it all settles down

WillieWaggledagger · 08/01/2013 07:48

hope it goes well for you today halfthesize and you have a quick recovery

i don't think i had many questions because i had lurked for ages and everyone else asked them for me!

thanks MrsHP, halfthesize and others who are helping out with the spreadsheet - we are now up to 180! hopefully i haven't missed any requests

Jacaqueen · 08/01/2013 08:39

Good luck half.

Both boys back at school today and I have opticians followed by the dentist. Also have to go and stock up on some supplies.

captainmummy · 08/01/2013 09:04

Good luck half.
I've got the day off today - will springclean the house after 2 weeks with 3 boys in it...

The other thread is up to nearly 500 posts - and it's only the start of day2!

jan2013 · 08/01/2013 10:18

hi everyone hope you are all doing ok :)

half hope everything goes ok for you today. Jacaqueen good luck for the dentist!

its hard keeping up with thread.. thank you so much for the support the solicitor was amazing. she reassured me that i was doing the right thing re the finances (according to him i was 'foolish' among other things!) and was an excellent support. still loads to do but feel far more confident now.

low carbing going well so far :)

BigStickBIWI · 08/01/2013 11:15

180 Shock!

Goodness how many there are lurking as well!

Glad your session went well, jan.

And half - hopefully you won't be able to read this because you will be in surgery/recovery by now. But here's hoping for a good outcome and a speedy recovery.

I don't really mind all the questions, to be honest, but it just takes so much time. It's a good job my work isn't very busy at the moment. And it's really great that so many of you are joining in too!

I was 1/2 pound down this morning, which is OK. I'm hoping to shed at least half of what I gained over Christmas this week.

WillieWaggledagger · 08/01/2013 12:28

and after all we have always said how much we feel like evangelising about low carbing, so it's fantastic that so many want to try it out! I know we will lose some people as time goes on, but we always retain some converts which is really lovely

i do get a little worried though that other groups on the weightloss board might get annoyed with us! but i'm sure ww and sw etc can hold their own

i think also that there is a risk (certainly on my part since i've started reading around) that we give too much detail at first, which can confuse things especially when it's such a radical change from previous advice. the beauty of biwi's rules is that they are simple, and it's later on in low carbing that you might need some fine-tuning and tailoring of your woe to your body's responses.

having said that, i wouldn't want to patronise people by saying 'just do what you're told and don't worry your little head about it', so it is important to give background info and reasons behind the rules, and links to research etc

oh dear i have completely contradicted myself!

Good luck with today half

BigStickBIWI · 08/01/2013 14:19

Hopefully we won't piss people off - had enough of that before!!!

I know what you mean about too much versus not enough information. It's a difficult balance - and some people want/need more than others.

I'm hoping that separating the question thread from the general chat thread might make that process a bit easier.

mrsnec · 08/01/2013 14:38

I just wanted to tell you all that I am not LC-ing at the moment for various reasons. But you don't piss me off! & whilst I'm not with you 100% on the science you're a very interesting and inspirational bunch with some astonishing weight loss stories & great recipe ideas. Just wanted to share that with you.

Doshusallie · 08/01/2013 14:46

Oh that's nice MrsNEc! Grin Cheers!

WillieWaggledagger · 08/01/2013 15:23

that is good to hear, thanks mrsnec

vnmum · 08/01/2013 16:31

Good luck today half
I would love to have an oasis/retreat thread. Although it might be a bit quichey, i would like to keep up with the friends i've made on here in the past year and i just can't keep up with the speed of the other thread. I have just come off a 26 hour shift and the thought of having to trawl through 500 or so posts for the past 2 days just so i can catch up with everyone is overwhelming.

So please can we carry on meeting up on this thread or something Smile

vnmum · 08/01/2013 16:43

biwi i have worked out, wether gym or a run, in a fasted state for probably the past 6 months, possibly longer. It is fine. Once you are ketoadapted, your body just gets on with it.

I am struggling with cravings this evening. I know it is because i am knackered from my shift and not drunk enough water today but my brain is wanting choc or cakes etc. I know they won't make me feel any better, or taste as nice as my brain is trying to tell me they will. I might just have some 85% choc later if i still feel the need for something.

Doshusallie · 08/01/2013 16:55

I would also like a retreat thread. Don't feel I will want to bore every one rigid about what I am up to on the other one,but would like to chat to you lot and am really interested in how you all are/what you are up to.

Maybe a title that isn't Low Carby? Like Low Carb in disguise? ummmm.... [scratches head]

timidviper · 08/01/2013 17:08

I'm the same vnmum, just got in from work (thankfully not 26hrs!) and just want to eat something. I have eaten a slice of ham and have a beef casserole in the slow cooker so will not starve but my brain is trying to rebel.

By the way I have discovered an easy thing for the slow cooker as you don't need much liquid. I just put the stewing steak in and whack in a container of salsa. It runs out ok carb-wise against tinned tomatoes, chopped veg, etc, I just check the carbs for any nasty surprises but most are ok.

Had an interesting conversation at work today that highlights how much GPs know about diet. A rep had brought us lunch but I had brought my own salad (they always bring sandwiches, sausage rolls and general carbfest) which he commented on so I said I was trying to eat healthily. The conversation then went:
GP - .........but that's not healthy!
me - Why?
GP - It's got prawns in it
me - What's wrong with prawns?
GP - (starting to look a bit panicked)....um... they've got something in them.
me - ??????
GP - cholesterol! That's it, cholesterol! Aren't they still bad for you?
me - No, ingested cholesterol has very little effect on blood levels
medical student - (showing off!) Yes (gives us both chapter and verse on cholesterol levels)
GP - Oh good, I like prawns!
Hope he isn't advising our patients!

SingingTunelessly · 08/01/2013 17:39

Gawd Timid please don't start me off about the crap healthy eating advice I was subjected to by my GP Angry. Thankfully I found BIWI and you lovely lot. Smile

Toomuch, a fellow Lab lover here. I've got two of them a Choc and a Red. They are adorable aren't they.

Half, hope the op was ok. Get well soon. Thanks

Dosh, am impressed with your no drinking pledge. Be interesting to see what affect it has on your weight. Might give me the push to put the wine glass down. unlikely

Hope everyone else is doing well. Peaceful 'ere innit. Grin

JustasmallGless · 08/01/2013 18:07

I'd like to carry on chatting on here or similar - lots of quichey threads but just people who are friends online IMO
I'm happy to keep on the Bootcamp threads too but it's a bit overwhelming just for a chat

JustasmallGless · 08/01/2013 18:08

Happy birthday captainmummy

Have you had a nice day?

captainmummy · 08/01/2013 18:16

Thanks Gless - am out to dinner tonight but it is a Thai, no idea what i will eat. Will try to avoid sweet chilli sauce!

It is nice and calm here innit?

JustasmallGless · 08/01/2013 18:21

Ommmmm
Ommmmm

Tbh I would just enjoy it - you have been LC for long enough that you will jump back into ketosis.
Be mindful and enjoy
Think Satay sauce....Grin

SingingTunelessly · 08/01/2013 18:27

Happy Birthday Captainmummy, enjoy meal.

Vnmum, just spotted your mammoth shift. Shock. You still enjoying the job though?

MrsHerculePoirot · 08/01/2013 18:33
