No spreadsheet to link to this week, as the LBD challenge is now over!

I don't know about anyone else, but I have definitely not had the greatest of weeks, and I'm keeping on keeping on until we get to Christmas.

Not quite sure yet what my own Christmas strategy is going to be, but I also guess it depends on where I've got to with my weight by then. I know that, having achieved my first major target of losing 2 stones, I still have more to go. So my next really major, very psychological target, will be to reach 9 stone. Something I have been trying (and failing) to do for the last 10 years! But now it seems so much more achieveable, especially with all you lot giving such brilliant support.

This week for me starts with a super strict day today. I'm out to dinner tomorrow, with a groups of ex colleagues, and venue is not yet chosen, but is likely to be a Chinese, which always brings its own problems. not to mention the wine

I'm also out to lunch on Friday, so it looks like Wednesday and Thursday will also have to be super strict!

Jessica - it's one of the (many) things that Dr Briffa writes about on his blog! I did some work (market research) for a company that makes 'diabetic' chocolate recently, and it was really shocking to see the ingredients that are included as supposedly safe for diabetics. Fructose, anyone? Confused

There are a growing number of diabetic doctors coming round to low carb thinking - but still a very small number. jessica have a look a (I think) diabetes support uk forums there was a forum section on there about low carb and diabetes. Also I have just read The Diabetic Diet by dr Bernstein which has been helpful. I am having my bloods done next week and probably again in three months so will be able to report back on what occurs low carbing Wise as I have been rubbish recently.

Hi MrsHP and BIWI thanks for your replies. I'll check out that book MrsHP for DF who I think is ripe for conversion to our ways!

MulledwineGless · 04/01/2013 14:50

Prolific
The key to this really is to meal plan and work out for the week what you are going to eat especially when starting out.
I have just felt hungry so am having my leftover chicken with buttery leeks and cabbage.
If I was at work I would take either a salad, some homemade soup or leftovers from night before.
Bacon and salad? What else have you got in?

Doshusallie · 04/01/2013 14:53

I was really hungry at 4.30pm yesterday and opened a can of corned beef - had a few slices wrapped in lettuce with full fat mayo. Did the trick!!!

WillieWaggledagger · 04/01/2013 15:02

Ah thanks all

halfthesize · 04/01/2013 17:32

Afternoon All, like you BIWI I find this thread a bit of a safe havenSmile

Willie that is absolutely fantastic, well doneGrin

I have been very good today food wise but rubbish with water intake. I am hosting a dinner party tomorrow, what do you think to the menu:

Starters - Scallops and pancetta fried in lemon butter
Main- Slow roasted shoulder of pork with roasted veg and crispy garlic potatoes
Dessert- meringues with cream and berries

I may have to indulge in some bubbly/wine alsoWink

PrincessSparkle86 · 04/01/2013 17:36

Willie you are marvellous!

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 04/01/2013 17:39

MulledwineGless · 04/01/2013 18:17

Ooh half size - sounds lovely!
And yy to bubbles and wine. It's your last blowout so go for it. Although looking at your photos are you in maintenance now?
What are you wearing tomorrow too- bet you look lovely and glam

halfthesize · 04/01/2013 18:39

Thanks wine think I may wear a little red dress I have. Not sure about maintenance after my Christmas blow outBlush
Just having a little glass of red now, as PIL have taken youngest 2 for the eve, wohoo, child free timeGrin

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 04/01/2013 18:59

I'm panicking a bit at the moment. I've been asked by MNHQ to write a piece for them about low carbing. So far so good, with basic stuff (although that's involved referencing loads of books - has been like being doing my homework!), but I feel very unqualified to write anything about maintenance. Anyone here got any clues/ideas?

MrsHerculePoirot · 04/01/2013 19:05

Jins I think has given some very good tips on a previous thread, I think she was having an op though, perhaps PM her, I think she is the longest maintainer I know of!

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 04/01/2013 19:19

Ah yes - good point. And I 'know' her from a low carb forum I was on before I discovered MN!

Ilovemyteddy · 04/01/2013 19:55

BIWI - cathyandclaire was talking about maintenance on the interim thread so she may be able to help.

willie your weightloss is inspirational!

MulledwineGless · 04/01/2013 20:07

Was going to suggest Jins- although not seen her around recently

Wow that's brilliant BIWI- am really chuffed for you.

I

halfthesize · 04/01/2013 20:12

I was also going to suggest Jins, great minds think alikeSmile

Fab news BIWI I think you are more than qualified, sure it will be greatGrin

timidviper · 04/01/2013 22:18

Well done BIWI. Once you get over the initial worry you'll be fine, you write really well on the threads.

I am probably further away from maintenance than anybody else but can I just say, as this is a healthy WOE rather than a diet, I would imagine that it would be easier to relax slightly into maintaining than with diets where you are eating unnaturally.

Doshusallie · 04/01/2013 22:25

Whoop way to go BIWI. The first step in becoming the J.K. Rowling of low carb! Remember us when you are rich and famous won't you!

Half, your menu sounds lovely.

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 04/01/2013 22:34

Blush thank you!

It's bloody hard writing it though. Have to make sure it's all correct and such! It's like doing your homework. I've been sitting here today, surrounded by books.
