Week 4 - Little Black Dress Low Carb Bootcamp - where the going gets tough ...

Morning all!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness

By now, you may be finding it tough going. The weight loss is nothing like it was in the first couple of weeks. In fact, you may even have seen the scales show a gain.

This is quite normal at this stage, as your body is shifting/has shifted into fat-burning mode, and you are now burning only fat. No more water loss. Long-term, sustainable weight loss is likely to settle at 1-2lbs per week.

By now, though, you should be more used to this WOE, and it should seem a more normal way to eat. Hopefully you've sorted out how to plan for times when you're out and about, and have a few strategies up your sleeve for the unexpected. And hopefully you are also better at knowing what does and doesn't work for you.

Here's to a good week to us all. Smile

Just marking place.

MegTheCat · 22/10/2012 12:55

Mrs HP you are deffo not unreasonable - I remember how excited my dcs used to get about parties - theyd have been distraught if they'd got there and no party. Hope you get an explanation (and an apology).
I still feel a bit guilty that we had to cancel my 9th birthday party because I got chicken pox - and one girl didn't get the message and turned up with party dress and present (with me answering the door in my pjs). She'll be 48 now so probably over it.
Brasssection - did you mention you are still having milk in coffee? - might be something to keep an eye on and just make sure you're not having too much. It would stall me - but then I like my coffee milky and can easily drink lots of it.

motherofluvlies · 22/10/2012 13:33

thank you so much viper for the words of encouragement.
BIWI I mean just nausea .no defence but I had a tomato based curry ( it was the cobra and rice...) slithering away.
Any way new resolution and will weigh tomorrow.....
9 weeks....ouch!
Off shopping for food Blush

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 22/10/2012 13:40

shagmund cramps could be lack of salts? Ouch. Well done on resisting the goodies. I can resist chocolate ok, but walking past an apple crumble or lemon cheesecake, something tangy, would be much harder for me!!

cartblanche · 22/10/2012 13:58

Have added in my terrible 2 and a half pound gain but have no one but myself to blame. I. Just. Cannot. Get. Back. In. the. Zone. Am fasting today because I need to get a grip. Overall weight loss of 3 pounds in 3 weeks which is OK but I really should be losing a sensible steady pound or two a week (instead of losing 6 in one week and then gaining 3 the next. I am the very definition of a yo-yo dieter at the moment Sad

NigellasGhost · 22/10/2012 14:26

I'm still here, if not posting much.
down half a lb!

Doshusallie · 22/10/2012 14:26

Lunch - tuna, mayo, roasted courgette and mushrooms, 2 boiled eggs, 2 x ham slices, cucumber, olives and salad leaves.

Brasssection · 22/10/2012 15:10

meg: yes, I am still drinking coffee, usually with double cream or lactose free milk. I like it milky too so have had to cut down and am logging it. I find I can get away with less cream than milk, but the calorie count sends me in a bit of a spin.

L. More yucky mackerel as needs using up, salad, boiled egg and olive oil.

Can I ask another question to which there probably is no answer? How low is low carb? I'm pretty sure I've been under 20 most days but probably logged closer to 30 in others. Bit unsure as MFP counts seem really odd to me. This surely isn't enough to take me out of ketosis, or is it? I'm worried that I'm in the worst of all worlds by low but not quite low enough carb and high fat. Anyone else worry about this?

Doshusallie · 22/10/2012 15:12

Brass - if you are eating the low carb veg and the foods on Biwi's list you will be low enough in carbs. AND DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE CALORIES OR FAT!!

Poppy1234 · 22/10/2012 15:12

Slightly disastrous weekend, I didn't go off piste food wise but just ate mountains and mountains of it (I won't mention the gallons of wine on Saturday night at my step sister's leaving do as she is heading off to Australia).

Back on the straight and narrow today and think I will do an experiment to see if cutting back on (rather than out) dairy makes a difference to weight loss.

I'm going to my parent's house for dinner shortly and I know it is likely to be a carb fest. I'm going to try and minimise carbs as much as possible but I (a) don't want to offend and (b) don't want my diet to be the focus of conversation for the evening so will be super discreet.

B: 2 scrambled eggs and mushrooms (tablespoon of greek yoghurt)
L: David Lloyd carbless burger (I left the super sweet relish, masses of red pepper and most of the tomato
D: Chez parents

BigBroomstickBIWI · 22/10/2012 15:50

Brass - Doshusallie has it absolutely right. You don't need to worry about the calories! Honestly! Just follow Bootcamp rules and you will be fine.

The answer to how many carbs is impossible to give, as it does vary from individual to individual. Atkins induction is 20g carbs per day, but once induction has finished, you gradually add in more carbs until you find the level that you start to gain weight. Charles Clark has a daily limit (for weight loss) of around 40-60g. So by the sounds of things, you are well under that.

Personally I wouldn't bother with MFP. It sounds like it's giving you some weird counts anyway.

must do some exercise - I am only managing 1 swim and a pilates class a week at the moment.

MmeLindor · 22/10/2012 16:23

Marking place.

Back from holiday and I've not put on, in fact I've lost another 1lb. Back on track today and hoping to make up for it

How is everyone?

AuntieMaggie · 22/10/2012 16:26

Bfast: yogurt
Lunch: celery and cucumber and sour cream dip
Dinner: Thai chicken soup (recipe on recipe thread - about 6g carbs)

BigBroomstickBIWI · 22/10/2012 16:53

AuntieMaggie - you're not eating very much there. Any reason for that? You need to eat properly, otherwise you will only end up getting hungry.

MmeLindor - good for you! ignores reference to toast and marmalade I saw on Twitter

Bit disappointed at 1/2 lb up but it's a lot better than it looked a few days ago. Think I just eat too much dairy at the moment. I love my cups of tea and have at least 4 a day (that's a massive reduction on before though), and cheese features heavily in my evening meals. Tonight I am making pork medallions in a mushroom and cream sauce with lots of cauliflower and broccoli.
Can still only find shredded kale and have had a go at baking it in the oven but it just tastes burnt, not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Saw a friend yesterday who is doing weight watchers and she was horrified at my eating pork crackling and homemade cauliflower cheese but in the month we've been dieting I've lost almost a stone and she's lost 4lbs. Think it might be a wake up call for her especially as she has to count everything first.
Wanted to lose another stone to get back to my ideal weight but right now 1/2 a stone would be close enough and I could get back into mostly of my clothes so am sticking with it.
Have discovered Brussels page is yummy and really low carb (0.1g per 100g) on sainsburys deli counter. Anyone have any ideas what I can put it on other than celery?

BigBroomstickBIWI · 22/10/2012 17:05

Cucumber?

Lavendersbluedillydilly1969 · 22/10/2012 17:20

Oh yes, was racking my brains but could only think of carrot which I know is no good. I've been using little gem lettuce leaves as wraps when we have chilli so I guess I could try those too Smile.

tartiflette · 22/10/2012 17:25

I can't remember who was asking about nicer pork scratchings? I've just had a bag of the new ones Marks have just started doing and they were lovely, less pork scratching-y than Mr Porky ones

EwanHoozami · 22/10/2012 18:17

B: Yog with a couple of fresh strawberries sliced on the top
L: Lidl bresaola with roast cauli and broccoli
D: Asian shredded chicken salad (with dressing of lime, rice vinegar, tahini, tamari soy and chilli flakes)

snack: couple of slices of edam and some billtong

Tasty day :)

clare8allthepies · 22/10/2012 18:30

One pound off for me, probably would have been more but lots of yummy food happened to me at the good food show yesterday Blush

BigBroomstickBIWI · 22/10/2012 18:36

Doshusallie - I'm having a dinner party this weekend! This is my menu so far:

Starter - smoked chicken with slices of avocado and strawberry vinaigrette (if you slice the chicken thinly and alternate it with slices of avocado, fanned out on the plate, it looks really pretty, and the contrast of colours is lovely)

Main - roast leg of lamb, studded with garlic and rosemary. To go with this, I'm going to adapt a Rachel Khoo recipe Tartiflette nests I'm going to make them with celeriac rather than potato. I'll serve a salad with a garlicky dressing and possibly another green veg.

Pudding - not decided, but might make a chocolate mousse; our friends who are coming are serious wine connoisseurs, so are more interested in cheese anyway!

BIWI I wasn't hungry today so didn't eat my lunch (mozzarella salad)... normally I eat at 12/12:30 out of habit but today I had the other stuff at 11:30 and wasn't hungry so left it at that. don't worry it's not a typical day! :o

captainmummy · 22/10/2012 18:42

Lavender - if you can find Kale leaves it's better, as the shredded stuff still has the tough central rib of the leaf, which i pick out. At least with leaves you can just pull it off the rib and then cut up. Did you toss in oil first? Don't have the over toooo hot and you do need to watch it like a hawk!

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 22/10/2012 18:52

Just checking in again today to report:
B yoghurt
L 2 eggs scrambled in butter and double cream
Snack pâté and about 6 blueberries
D am making salmon with mozzarella melted on top, with green beans, a couple of baby sweetcorn and spinach

Well done to all the losers.
