Week 4 - Little Black Dress Low Carb Bootcamp - where the going gets tough ...

Morning all!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness

By now, you may be finding it tough going. The weight loss is nothing like it was in the first couple of weeks. In fact, you may even have seen the scales show a gain.

This is quite normal at this stage, as your body is shifting/has shifted into fat-burning mode, and you are now burning only fat. No more water loss. Long-term, sustainable weight loss is likely to settle at 1-2lbs per week.

By now, though, you should be more used to this WOE, and it should seem a more normal way to eat. Hopefully you've sorted out how to plan for times when you're out and about, and have a few strategies up your sleeve for the unexpected. And hopefully you are also better at knowing what does and doesn't work for you.

Here's to a good week to us all. Smile

I haven't used coconut oil - I know that others swear by it, I just think it sounds a bit wierd!!!

Just put all our fruit for the christmas cake into soak for the week. I did however accidentally on purpose eat some glace cherries... now I feel a bit sick!

Brunch - bacon, mushroom and eggs
Snacks - pepperami and babybel and pork scratchings
Dinner - roast beef, turnip gratin and green beans

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/10/2012 20:45

captainmummy turnip gratin - A-MAZE-ING thank you so much!

Doshusallie · 27/10/2012 20:54

Mrs HP I must do our Xmas cake fruit in to soak tomorrow.

WineGless · 27/10/2012 20:57

I have done my Xmas pudding vodka and limoncello but not sure where we will be for Xmas so have held back in cake/pudding

Arrived safely and off to the pub withDH. A rare treat

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/10/2012 20:58

Lavendersbluedillydilly1969 · 27/10/2012 21:01

MrsHP I agree it does sound weird but then so did low carbing till I tried it. I have eaten a spoonful tonight (and covered my hair in itSmile) and it has a really strange texture. Its not totally unpleasant but I not exactly moreish. Will try 2 spoonfuls tomorrow. Am very interested to know if I will notice any difference to weight loss or how I feel over next couple of weeks.

Doshusallie · 27/10/2012 21:39

Have a great time wine!!!! X

NewStartSameStory · 27/10/2012 21:54

Today i have been fighting the urge to want to fall into a whole heap of sugar. Dodged ds trying to get me to eat pumpkin pie he made, without hurting his feelings and feeling crap. All I want is a hot blackcurrent squash. Which is totally not allowed, but really really dislike fruit tea type stuff so have no alternative. So spent the day feeling cold and miserable.

Diet has been a bit crap too. Eaten too much yoghurt, snacked on plastic cheese and then fell into a plateful of cauliflower/broccoli in a cheesy sauce. I feel cold and crap. And hungry but don't want to eat anything veg like. Daren't eat any more dairy and has push tollerance boundaries too far as it is. Urgh. Not a good day.

SingingTunelessly · 27/10/2012 21:54

Mrs HP congratulations! Just spotted your loss. Grin

Christmas cake and pudding made a couple of weeks ago and being 'dressed', ahem, on a weekly basis. Hope I don't end up with too many drivers on the day.

I've got some coconut oil in the cupboard which I bought way back at the start of Bootcamp. Never known what to do with it though tbh. Eat a spoonful (yuck) or add it to stuff?

Made some Flaxseed, Parmesan and rosemary crackers this afternoon. Couple of attempts at getting the crispness right but have to say they are GOOD with Brie.

Viperidae · 27/10/2012 21:55

Lavender I thought you were supposed to use coconut oil in cooking or replace other oils with it rather than take it seperately. Is that not right? I sometimes use it in cooking and it does add a lovely flavour to it.

I know that one of the chemicals in coconut oil is caprylic acid which is used as a treatment for the overgrowth of candida in the gut so possibly it helps with weight by improving GI flora balance (it is often imbalanced if you have had a high sugar diet, as many of us have) but that is just a guess.

I do love the texture of it on skin and it smells wonderful too.

SingingTunelessly · 27/10/2012 22:57

Newstart do you think this woe of eating isn't for you? I only ask as am a bit peed off with DH tonight bemoaning the fact I cooked celeriac chips instead of potatoes. Well sod off with your moaning about your fat gut chummy.

Not getting at you newstart honestly but as a convert to this woe I am struggling with people (DH who has lost a stone and a half and now whining about potatoes WHICH he didn't miss before this evening).

Anyway, forget my moaning, why do you want to fall into sugar?

NewStartSameStory · 27/10/2012 23:08

TOM, dealing with ds who is aspie and is having a few issues, carer for parents with various issues that need alot of emotional input atm etc etc etc, and in particular trying to get back on track after having been away and off the woe at the beginning of the week. PLus habit. Before starting this my diet was shocking and mostly consisted of potatoe, pasta or chocolate. But mostly chocolate. Literally. I could go days and sometimes weeks without eating a meal if I could grab a chocolate bar. And reguarly did.

Mum was actually commenting on how much better I looked and seemed since I started this Woe. But I am struggling with the habit and mental side of it. Especially with rl being particulary crap atm. To the point where a good friend pointed out that had they got my life there was no way they would manage a smile ever atm and how the hell did I manage it. SImply because if you don't keep smiling you cry and sometimes that really isnt an option. Sorry a bit ranty tonight. I do try very hard to respect the not posting any cheat details. And appreciate that I have slipped up with that tonight. For that I appologise. Sorry.

NewStartSameStory · 27/10/2012 23:14

Ignore that self pity party Blush It has been a long emotionally draining weekend. Tomo is a new day. hopefully some sleep will help. Grateful for the clocks going back.

WineGless · 27/10/2012 23:19

NSSS we are here to help and not judge.

From what you have posted so far this WOE has helped you with you eating habits? Don't give up now Ffs me, dosh and others all struggle with our wine consumption!

Have you got a kindle? The idiot proof diet book is fab and has a really good chapter on emotional eating which I reread periodically

Big hugs x

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/10/2012 23:28

newstart right first of all an occasional hot (sugar free) squash is going to be fine. Maybe for you, going straight to bootcamp light is the way to go and you won't feel so restricted. My personal theory is that if you have tried other (restrictive in calories and fat) diets before, perhaps often like me, the your body tries to rebel by wanting all the things you aren't allowed. For me I love crunchy things - crisps, toast etc...so instead I stock up on pork scratchings. Some days I'll eat packet after packet, but then after a while my body gets over it and I am fine again for days. I have no idea at all how I would cope in you situation, it sounds very difficult both physically and mentally. You sound like you do want to stick with it though deep down inside, focus on the lovely comments about how well you look and think about how much 'weller' you could look in another week, or two, or three...

Buy some sugar free squash, OK it isn't bootcamp, but it isn't sugar and if it works then go for it when you need it - perhaps just have one of an evening to start with and see how you go. Maybe try to find some 'snacks' you can have to hand - cold cooked low carb sausages, pork scratchings, things you can eat on cucumber or celery (pâté, full cat cream cheese...). I have relaxed on things like tomatoes, small amounts of carrot and peppers - I feel less restricted and have been less inclined to fall into bread or chocolate. Tonight I made smoked salmon wrapped around cream cheese then sort of rolled up - it certainly looked home made, but was lovely and filled the last hour before dinner...

Remember how well you were told you look and I promise that the longer you stay on track the easier it becomes! Eating toast to me today doesnt seem appealing in the slightest, but it did a week ago...

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/10/2012 23:29

Don't apologise, we are all here and you CAN do it!

NewStartSameStory · 27/10/2012 23:32

Tbh i spent most of the last year under threat of hospitalisation for eating issues. The fact that I actually eat is a major progress. Just feels really unnatural eating meals because it has been years since that has happened regularly. I struggle with the concept of being hungry and eating. food avoidance and comfort eating are things I have perfected.

Will have a look tomo. thank you.

WineGless · 27/10/2012 23:35

Mrs Hp speaks sense.
You need to work out what works for you. Get done sleep and come back in the morning x

SingingTunelessly · 27/10/2012 23:50

Newstart, am sorry you feel so bad, it's horrible. I lost my father earlier this year and my mum is not so great now so we are struggling as a family.

Lavendersbluedillydilly1969 · 27/10/2012 23:54

Hi Viper, coconut oil is solid at room temperature do yes you can substitute it for any other oil in cooking but apparently many people eat z spoonful (or several) as is or add it to tea or coffee etc. it's supposed to help thyroid function amongst other things.

Viperidae · 28/10/2012 00:35

NewStart I think the advice about the odd sugarfree squash is good. I know that we are not supposed to have sf stuff and think, with hindsight, that is why I have failed on SW/WW/etc as I have never changed my habits but I do succumb to the odd diet drink or Atkins bar as it is a lesser evil than me getting into a spiral of feeling deprived and pigging out.

Sorry to hear that life is tough at the moment but if this WOE is making you feel healthier then it is worth sticking with if you can.

Lavender I didn't know about the thyroid thing. I must read up on it more.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 28/10/2012 00:53

Keep going NSSS, keep talking, we are all in this together and hopefully this woe will become gradually more normalised for you with time, and you will see more benefits.

D steak, cabbage with pancetta and creme fraiche, spinach.

But I had my first cheat tonight, at a friends birthday party. I didn't have any wine (yay!) but I did have 4 mini sausage rolls and a slice of the (sponge and icing) birthday cake (felt it would be to rude to refuse as it was made especially). It was weird, I definitely felt a bit funny afterwards and my tummy got a bit crampy for an hour or so, is this literally just the sugar hitting after nearly 4 weeks strict bootcamp? Anyone else get this? Or maybe it was just the manifestation of my guilt!! [hwink]

NewStartSameStory · 28/10/2012 07:24

That was how i felt last weekend with the enforced high carb diet. It is horrible.

After some sleep I think the biggest problem was meal avoidance. I didn't eat a proper breakfast and I was trying to avoid eating tea too. This really doesn't work if you don't eat proper meals. We have what is supposed to be sugar free squash but the reality is that it is actually high in carbs because of using fruit juice and being high in the naturally occurring fructose in the fruit. It just has no added sugars. Will have to have a look at some others but i suspect that this might be the case with most of them unless they are a chemical construction and never seen a fruit in its life.

otoh ds is still asleep and i am going to head back to sleep too as still feel really tired.

EwanHoozami · 28/10/2012 07:37

Just shuffling in with a quick hug for NSSS - you can do it, lass.

MrsHerculePoirot · 28/10/2012 07:47

New start I fine nearly all the no added sugar ones don't affect my blood sugar, remember, you have such a small amount in one glass and the info will be sugars per 100g possibly... I will check mine later to see. I second the atkin bars as a fall back option if it stops you eating a chocolate bar. Are there any meals that are generally easier for you to want to eat?
