Week 4 - Little Black Dress Low Carb Bootcamp - where the going gets tough ...

Morning all!

Come and confess all on the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness

By now, you may be finding it tough going. The weight loss is nothing like it was in the first couple of weeks. In fact, you may even have seen the scales show a gain.

This is quite normal at this stage, as your body is shifting/has shifted into fat-burning mode, and you are now burning only fat. No more water loss. Long-term, sustainable weight loss is likely to settle at 1-2lbs per week.

By now, though, you should be more used to this WOE, and it should seem a more normal way to eat. Hopefully you've sorted out how to plan for times when you're out and about, and have a few strategies up your sleeve for the unexpected. And hopefully you are also better at knowing what does and doesn't work for you.

Here's to a good week to us all. Smile

Just checking in - have lost another 1lb since Monday, so am now 120 down from 129.6 since I started 26 days ago. Almost 10lbs in 26 days! I'd like to lose a further 10lbs as then I would be very happy with weight for my height (5"2). Am aiming to reach this by end of December / beginning of Jan, as I know it will be a lot harder to shift the last few pounds as I get closer to my goal.

Yesterday was:

Breakfast:2 eggs, 1 slice toast, 2/3 teaspoon butter
Snack1: 2oz turkey, 1/2 apple, 4 macadamia nuts
Lunch: Chicken (2oz) salad with dressing
Snack2: Half a cup of semi skimmed milk
Dinner: 3oz beef chilli, 1 cup brocolli, 1 cup courgettes

~2l water. (Always struggle with the water).

(Disclaimer: I am on the Zone diet, which is high proteib / low carb, but not exactly bootcamp rules!)

Brasssection · 26/10/2012 07:15

Tell me ain't soBIWI! I drink 3+ litres per day, every day.

jan2013 · 26/10/2012 07:16

does anyone know (link to if poss) the best low carb muffin recipies to make? i have almond flour. thank u

bucksmum · 26/10/2012 07:20

Lovely DD came back from college yesterday and thought she was being kind by bringing us all fish and chips as she knew I'd been hospital visiting all week. I didn't eat the chips but couldn't resist the fish in batter plus didn't want to ungrateful! Oh well start again today Smile

jan2013 · 26/10/2012 07:54

aw that was very kind of her :)

captainmummy · 26/10/2012 08:33

Oooh fish and chips,mmmmmmmmmmmmm!

TurnipGratin - slice very thinly, layer with shallots, (and i add chicken breasts chopped up thinly) and cover with cream. bake until silky and soft - and they don't taste of turnips at all! I think it's even better than potato gratin.

BigBroomstickBIWI · 26/10/2012 08:34

Morning all. Have finally shifted another pound, so I'm back down to 9.8 1/2. Unless I lose a bit more over the weekend, though, I will just be back to where I was a couple of weeks ago.

Brasss - that's reassuring then!

BIWI: do we have to take a big stick to you?

BigBroomstickBIWI · 26/10/2012 09:04

Well it might help! Grin

TBH, it was why I originally set up the first Bootcamp - to get/keep me motivated! I had no idea how many people would join. I thought there would be around half a dozen of us.

I am off to my trainer this morning so have have treated myself to 2 cream cheese pancakes (1oz philly, 1 egg, pinch Splenda and pinch cinnamon) with 4 sliced strawberries a few blueberries and yoghurt.

My tastes are definitely changing, I used a pinch of Splenda this time where previously I've used a good spoonful. I've also made a real discovery! Fanfare!! Alpro plain yoghurt is gorgeous! I still find Total too sour and too thick and creamy but the Alpro is even lower carb (2.1 to Totals 3.8) and tastes much softer.

Sadly I was tempted by the scales again this morning. Last week my weight had gone down well but inexplicably jumped back up 2lb before weighing and, despite a week of being good, only 1 of those 2 has gone. That's also despite my exploding bottom after the sugarfree sweetie episode but never mind, I think my trousers may feel a bit looser so onward and upward downward.

BigBroomstickBIWI · 26/10/2012 09:24

What's the protein content of the Alpro, out of interest? Total is quite high, which is another reason I think it's good before I go training.

Never mind about the scales today. They will soon fall in line!

Morning all, well I have the hangover from hell[hblush] very sorry BIWI way too many wines! Think I have drank about 4 litres of water already this morning and just cooking bacon.

Bucks what I would do for fish and chips[hwink]

Well done on the losses ladies, I weighed in 1lb down but think that may be dehydration!!

Viperidae · 26/10/2012 09:39

Alpro is per 100g:
50kcal
Protein 4g
Carbs 2.1g
fat 2.3g
Fibre 1g

It isn't as high protein (Total is 8g), does that matter much? I had mine with cream cheese and egg pancake so I have had some protein in those. Does that mean it would not be good to have with berries as a meal as not enough protein but ok with other stuff? Please please please I really don't like taste or texture of Total

BigBroomstickBIWI · 26/10/2012 11:28

No - it's fine! I just think that, for me, Total is probably a pretty good pre-workout food, being high in protein and fat.

I bloody love Alpro too. It's such a relief to eat something, apart from vegetables, that doesn't come from an animal. I do like Total too but, unlike Alpro, I have to sweeten it.

The Alpro cream is also lower carb than any milk creams that I've found and it tastes nice for cooking, though not as good as double cream in coffee.

halfthesize · 26/10/2012 11:36

[hblush]

jan2013 · 26/10/2012 11:58

i love alpro too really good taste

well done biwi

I try not to eat dairy but I personally avoid soya at all costs too. I have been reading too many paleo sites that mention it being bad for you (can't link though as too many sites read)

I was going to go to the gym today as DH has surprisingly booked some time off work but I have a very tight and sore ITB. I am getting horrible pulling pains from my hip, down the outside of my thigh to my knee, so I am going to have a go at stretching and releasing it today on the foam roller in the hope it will be looser tomorrow so I can workout. Not looking forward to the torture that is the foam roller though Smile

Food wise I am doing ok. Somedays a little more dairy than I would like slips in (creamy sauces mainly) but other than that I am managing fine without my cheese. just got to sort out suitable packed lunches for work. I usually eat alot of olives in garlic etc but not sure the clients would appreciate my garlic breath but I use them as a good fat source

NewStartSameStory · 26/10/2012 12:45

I didn't eat enough at breakfast (scrambled eggs). currently munching my way through a salad. food ok but struggling after the catered meals of the last weekend. Next time I will put in a special diet sheet and go through the hell that is fighting the person overseeing this stuff. It is not worth it. Felt crap this week. I am in a vile mood. Shame i didn't discover this with enough time to do it for last wkend. Lack of sleep is probably not helping either.

Ds' dad has been doing baking with him and I got a whole selection of temptations home with ds yesterday. It's not helping. But I did avoid food at Ikea. I want to go back to where I was a couple of weeks ago. Focused and motivated and with will power. Need to try to catch up on sleep.

jan2013 · 26/10/2012 13:01

vnmum hope you feel better soon - hope the gum goes ok and helps you feel better

newstart i feel ya i am also sleep deprived today and it makes everything a struggle. it would be worth it for u to put a special diet sheet in as then you won't have to be stressed about it when the time comes and feel the bad effects afterwards...

ive just given dd a packet of milky buttons to keep her in her high chair another 5 mins (bad measure of desperation today!) ill probably pay for it as she isn't used to sugar and will end up even more hyper than usual!

Viperidae · 26/10/2012 13:06

What on earth is an ITB? My mind is boggling? Remember I'm an exercise newbie.

My babystep of today is that monster sports bra has stopped folding over/rolling on my back and now lies flat! Very small improvement but it's all encouraging and seeing as my weight has been a problem, creeping up, ever since I had DS (now 24) it's going to take quite a while to improve it.

vnmum · 26/10/2012 13:17

Viperidae It is the Illio,Tibial,Band. A ligament that runs from the hip to the knee. It is commonly a problem in runners but mine is from the kettle bell swing movement

Poppy1234 · 26/10/2012 13:35

Gaah 2.2lbs up, that's what happens when you have far too much wine on Saturday night, eat excessively (all low carb) the next day to alleviate hangover and then eat a carby dinner on Monday evening at my parent's house. I actually can't believe how much I have put on, I haven't seen that figure on the scales for a long time.

Anyway, onwards and upwards, we are going to a christening on Sunday and I know there will be a vast array of gorgeous cakes and treats, I did have it in my mind as a planned cheat but after today's horrendous scale experience I'm not so sure.

Please someone reassure me that you have seen a big gain and it has just been a blip.

Do you think trying vodka and soda instead if wine at weekends would make a difference?

Also going to lay of 100% dark chocolate, I thought I was being virtuous sticking to the very high cocoa but it has made a difference on the scales.

Boobz super impressed by your weight loss I think it would break my heart to be so strict and weigh everything but I'm curious as to how you maintain when you reach your ideal weight?

B: Couple of teaspoons of greek yoghurt, poached egg with chilli salt
L: Curried cauliflower and coconut soup, beef and spinach muffin
D: Chicken fajitas (served with lettuce leaves instead of wraps), sour cream, grated cheese and guacamole

Doshusallie · 26/10/2012 13:51

Poppy once I laid off the dark choc and the nuts and switched from wine to gin I dropped to my maintenance weight. I gain a pound or 2 if i drink wine at weekends. And to be honest I don't think 2.2 pounds is a big gain.

Went swimming this morning, did my Friday mile, felt great after.

i am making those savoury muffins/frittattas for my lunch! SO excited they smell divine.........Grin

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 26/10/2012 14:02

TMI alert update, oat bran definitely works!!! [hblush] [hgrin]

I am now gambolling around like a lightfooted spring lamb, even though we have snow, yes snow outside!! winegless bring yer thermals!!

B yoghurt
Snack (at meeting) small piece of cheese, 2 teaspoons egg mayo, black coffee and green tea
L 2 eggs scrambled in butter with double cream, smoked salmon

As a result of meeting, I have been given a pile of extra hours to do next week which means lunch in the canteen, hmm may need to pack some salady things to take!

Am away to make a beef stew for tonight, suits the weather, brrrrr!!
