We managed to fill the thread before the end of the week, so I'm starting the next one.

Here is the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness for you to record your weight tomorrow

Morale booster of the day: I did an online BMI calculator thingy and my 4lb loss has moved me from the obese category into the merely overweight category! Next stop normal!

caramelwaffle · 08/10/2012 23:44

Well done, mumsnot.

NewStartSameStory · 09/10/2012 04:53

Lack of sleep is a killer of motivation. Morning.

cartblanche · 09/10/2012 05:20

Morning NewStartSameStory. I crashed out last night with my youngest at about 8pm. Woke at some ungodly hour, went back into my own bed and tossed and turned for an hour or so. Gave up and came down and made the kids packed lunches, came on here and am drinking a cup of decaf coffee and 1 square of 85% choc! Finding the evenings hard going but hoping normal service will resume soon. Hope you have a good day. (will try and get back to bed for an hour or so now)

LRDtheFeministDragon · 09/10/2012 06:18

Morning everyone. Smile

themumsnot - congratulations!

Mme - that pork/courgette thingy sounds delicious.

I do love a diet that lets me eat pig. Grin

I am sitting here sipping black engine oil coffee. Hmm

sybilfaulty · 09/10/2012 06:42

Wow! 306 posts already and it's the start of day2, week 2!

2lbs off for me. Slow and steady. I can feel my hip bones, not exactly jutting, thank god, but not surrounded in layers of lard as previously.

Have a good day losers.I am tossing up a swim whilst my son is at nursery, or a coffee and mooch round the shops. I wonder which will win?

butterflyexperience · 09/10/2012 06:51

BIWI I made cauliflower mash the other day with lots of butter, and it was rank :(
Shall try celric and leek mash at the weekend.
Bought cream last night so going to make cheese sauce with my chicken tonight, yum yum!

butterflyexperience · 09/10/2012 06:54

Also, anyone know what adding exercise does on a diet like this?
I'm a bit confused....

So lowcarb means eating lots of calories but if you exercise than you burn calories...

Will it stop me losing weight?
Anyone know the science behind it all?

Ta

WineGless · 09/10/2012 07:36

Butterfly
Your body is changing from using carbs to burn fuel for exercise to fat burning. If you want to read round the subject I can highly recommend dr John Briffa book escape the diet trap. You might be able to borrow from library if no other boot campers have got there first!!

BigBroomstickBIWI · 09/10/2012 07:59

butterfly - low carb doesn't mean you have to eat loads of calories! It just means that you don't have to count calories - and there is the added advantage that you can eat more calories than if you were following a low calorie diet yet still lose weight.

Exercise, as with any diet, will make only a small contribution to weight loss. Figures I have seen bandied about on various sites say that food = 80-85% of losing weight, with exercise at 15-20%.

Obviously, though, exercise is good for you anyway, and can also help you to tone up, which will enhance weight loss. If you are used to high levels of exercise, you may find it a little difficult in the short term (initial 2-3 weeks) as your body gets used to burning fat rather than carbs. Once you're ketogenically adapted, however, you should be able to exercise just as intensively as you were doing before going low carb.

TheHumancatapult · 09/10/2012 08:10

Butterfly trick is to work out what is your fat burning zone , to far over start burning muscle to low and no fat going

So for example in in the 40 group my best FBZ is 140-160 heart rate . 180 minus your age plus 20 to give the zone

To be most effective you need do at least 3 times a week

TheHumancatapult · 09/10/2012 08:11

BiWI is right first few weeks are tough but once I adjusted to it I actually now work out far more and harder and longer than did before. . Mind that would not been hard Grin

WillieWaggledagger · 09/10/2012 08:12

morning, well done on losses this last week

sorry you're not well orangekat, i have removed you from the spreadsheet

WillieWaggledagger · 09/10/2012 08:15

yes i found working out during the first couple of weeks of proper low carb almost impossible (others haven't found that to be the case though) so i eased off until about three weeks in

weirdly i had to change the time of day i was working out (previously morning, now evening)

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 09/10/2012 08:49

Hi there. 3lbs off for me. Would have been more but my beef stew on Sunday was way too full of carby veg. Lesson learnt and I'm happy with 3lb. I love love love this WOE.

I exercise 2-3 times a week, which is new for me. I love the way it feels.

Some inspiring stuff here. Thanks all.

WillieWaggledagger · 09/10/2012 08:51

shagmund what was your original starting weight and what was your weight on 1st oct?

PrincessSparkle86 · 09/10/2012 09:30

Morning ladies Smile

Breakfast today was leftovers from last night :)
Lunch and dinner undecided as yet!

Im off wedding dress shopping today with the BFF... So excited!

NigellasGhost · 09/10/2012 09:36

caramel that is good news!

Boobz · 09/10/2012 09:42

Is that really true, that exercise is only accountable for 15% of weight loss vs the food part? That's amazing if it's true. Link?

My work out today:

-- 5km warm up run (paced by my hound, Jackson)
-- 10 x press ups x 3 sets
-- 10 x kettle bell swings x 3 sets
-- walking lunges holding 3kg weights x 2 sets (killer!)
-- 20 x sits ups x 3 sets
-- 10 x box jumps x 2 sets
(20 seconds rest between each set)
Repeat above x 2 (but only doing the run once), for a total work out time of 56:38.
5 mins yoga warm down.
Sweaty!

Food:
B: 1oz grilled steak, 1 egg, 1 slice toast, 2/3 tsp butter
Snack1: Glass of milk and 6 cashew nuts
L: 2oz tuna on lettuce with dressing
Snack2: Protein smoothie
D: Beef stew (3oz beef, 1/4 cup onion, 1/2 cup green pepper, 1 cup mushrooms, 1/2 cup courgette, stock).

(P.S. I am on the Zone diet - very low carb but I do get some, in case you spot banned foods on there and shout at me!).

Is anyone taking before and after photos?

dotty2 · 09/10/2012 09:49

I don't know why but am absolutely starving this morning, after an utterly virtuous - delicious but impeccably low carb - day yesterday. So far today I have eaten two boiled eggs with butter. Still hungry. Small bowl of soya yoghurt (experimenting - low carb but not v. nice) with cinnamon. Still hungry. Back from school run, and ate a whole avocado, 3 slices of ham and some cream cheese and think I am finally not hungry any more. Am running this lunchtime and giving blood tonight so keen not to keel over at any point...

captainmummy · 09/10/2012 09:56

Butterfly - I decided I don't like celeriac mash either, I prefer it chipped or in a soup. Mashed swede with butter is better!

Princess - your wedding dress? Oooo!

Breakfast - not hungry,so a coffee with cream.
lunch will be leftovefr cauliflower cheese and DS2-made bolognaise sauce
Dinner - DS2 is doing prawns in thai spices, will have with those carb-free, cal-free, taste-free noodles.

Doshusallie · 09/10/2012 10:02

that braised cabbage dish - do you think you can make it early in the day and keep it in fridge for evening meal?

Collywibbles · 09/10/2012 10:03

Boobz - I have done pictures monthly (I have been LCing for over a year) - but won't be sharing them as I am in bra and knicks Smile

Your workout sounds great - I have got tabata and body pump tonight so will be sweaty after that!

B - scrambled egg with loads of butter & a proper sausage.

Drinking loads of water today - I am ridiculously thirsty for some reason ...

GoldenOrangeWhippoorwhill · 09/10/2012 10:25

I tried so hard to be good during our time away. I had red wine, some dark chocolate, some macadamia nuts and a few chips. Other than that I was strict low carb but huge portions. Didn't expect to lose anything but I'm another pound down making me 11 stone exactly. That's 3 stone since the end of February. Slow and steady but I'm getting there. :) I really want the scales to say 10 something now though.

I'm getting cross with myself about my lack of exercise. My neck/shoulder is still bad. If I reach up or forward I get a tingling or buzzing sensation in my arm and hand and my thumb and first finger go numb. The doctor says rest and anti-inflamatories and we don't have the money for an osteopath. MIL had offered to pay but sadly the money had to be spent on vet treatment and euthanasia for our dog instead. Since then I've rather been moping. I would normally be forced to leave the house to walk the dogs but the old dog can't walk very far and with this rain her arthritis would rather she slept by the radiator instead, so I've just been vegging. We got back Thursday and since then I have been mostly lying on the bed as that's the most comfortable position for my arm. I'm feeling weirdly unmotivated but restless. Cabin fever without any urge to solve it. :( I think I need a swift kick up the arse!

On the bright side the new puppy should be being picked up on 28th October. It's been a long time since there was a baby in the house so that will take a bit of adjusting to. Night wakings, early mornings and constant vigilance. I seem to remember the hooligan stage lasting about 3 years... I must be crazy!

Good luck with your interview vnmum. I've got my fingers crossed for you. Don't worry too much about the future though, if you get it the kids will be fine and you've got a year to work out overnights. :)

Boobz · 09/10/2012 10:26

Collywibbles - I want to see your photos! I have got my before photos (taken on 1 Oct) and will post my after photos in January when I have completed P90X and Zone diet.

LCing for over a year?! And you're quite strict? You must weigh nothing!

I loved bodypump, but don't have it here (Kenya).
