Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

good morning

a housekeeping announcement

we have 95 weigh-ins on the spreadsheet so far, which is fab. there are a few who haven't weighed for various reasons, and just to warn that if anyone hasn't entered their starting weight by Tuesday/Wednesday ish next week (i.e. when i get round to sorting out the top losers etc for week 1) i will have to move them to a new archive tab as it will mess with me averages Grin

this doesn't at all mean they've been kicked out though, so if anyone finds that their name has been moved and they would like to be reinstated please do just shout

you know, from menus posted up on here it does look as though most are on a lo calorie plan at the same time, is that right, are most o you keeping calories lo?

i am trying to stay at that required calories for your lifestyle less 10% level (1800cal or me) from the other thread, and theres no chance of me ever being anywhere near my basal met rate!!!!!

LaVitaBellissima · 05/10/2012 08:02

I have a very bad stomach, lots of trips too the loo Blush do you think that this is because of low carbing? My body getting used to it or do I have food poisoning? Sad
I have a really important meeting today, and am feeling rubbish and very scared about the long journey aarrgghh....
Doing very well so far with no alcohol Smile

WillieWaggledagger · 05/10/2012 08:09

catstail i don't think many people are actively calorie counting, and it's a little difficult to tell intake without knowing portions sizes (one person's buttered veg might have a sliver of butter, another's might have two tbsp Grin)

but certainly having low carbed for several months i do have a lower food intake overall compared to my previous diet, as i just don't need or want to eat so much, and i love the food i do eat. however, i'm not sure of my actual calorie intake nor of my bmr, and i'm enjoying the freedom of not knowing!

OP posts:
WillieWaggledagger · 05/10/2012 08:11

oh lavita you poor thing... i don't think that's a common experience with low carbing, so it might be a tummy bug? or could you be experiencing anxiety symptoms about your important meeting (that has happened to me before)?

halfthesize · 05/10/2012 08:13

Morning all, catstail I have not calorie counted since April and I think most are notSmile

Weighed in again today(as I like to weigh daily) and I've lost a further 2lbs so thats 4lb downGrin

Well I have woke up feeling rough as, sneezing, headache and ache all overSad
Had a lovely night last night at a charity pamper eve where I had 2 glasses of bubbly.

EwanHoozami · 05/10/2012 08:22

I'm larfing with you lot, this thread does cheer me up. I can't imagine watching QT sober, Jacaqueen Grin how did it go?

LaVita LC'ing usually tips my digestion slightly the other way (hence the prune and senna tabs from H&B) so maybe you have a bug? Drink loads of water - hope you feel better for your meeting.

No idea what I'm having for L&D today.

Am defrosting some chicken breasts so if anyone wants to share their most wondrous favourite LC chicken dish I'd be very grateful :)

captainmummy · 05/10/2012 08:25

Catstail - I use MFP to log my Carbs but don't really look at the cals. I have noticed tho that even using butter/cream/cheese, my intake (when i've noticed) is usually sbout 1200.

Ewan - I'm doing a turnip dauphinoise-thing with chicken-fried-in-garlic-butter mixed in with it.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 05/10/2012 08:25

cats not calorie counting at all! no way - not on this WOE.

My back is killing me today, it has totally gone, once I have had breakfast I am going to have to hit the proper painkillers, prescribed for my back.

LaVitaBellissima · 05/10/2012 08:25

Thanks, I didn't think it was the low carbing and it's not anxiety. I'm quite excited about my meeting, I'd be gutted if I missed it. It must just be a bug but I think I may fast today at least whilst I'm out.
I may start doing the Shred again on Monday if I'm feeling brave enough.

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 08:29

catstail - There is no way that we should be counting calories on this WOE. And in fact, you can consume more calories eating low carb. If there are any meals/days where it looks low calorie, it could be because some people actually eating enough at the moment. Everyone has to find their way into low carbing and - as you are finding - often people get it wrong to start with! A very common mistake is to try and cut down on food/portions as well as cutting down on carbs. It simply isn't necessary!

I don't like it when I see people on here talking about calorie counting, or entering their data into something like myfitnesspal and talking about how many calories they are eating because it simply isn't necessary

As you get nearer your target weight, or if you really have only a small amount of weight to lose, you may need to think about calories/portion sizes, but at this stage where - let's face it - most of us have a lot of weight to shift, calories do not come into it.

So the lesson for today is

IF YOU ARE COUNTING AND/OR RESTRICTING YOUR CALORIES, STOP IT RIGHT NOW!

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 08:34

LaVita - I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so rough Sad. I don't think it would be the low carbing, but any change in diet obviously can have some impact. If this is a meeting you have to go to, you could always try some Immodium - it will stop things for the moment.

Ewan - two things I do with chicken breasts - first, is to slice each breast lengthways into 2 or 3 slices, depending on how big they are, and marinate in sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, Chinese 5 spice powder, oregano and chilli. After marinading for around 30 minutes, griddle them for around 5-8 minutes until nicely browned and cooked through.

Or, wrap each breast in pancetta or parma ham; before you cover them in the meat, stuff each one with a couple of slices of mozzarella, black pepper and some jarred jalapeno peppers. Then bake in the oven for around 20 minutes.

halfthesize · 05/10/2012 08:36

Grin at BIWI

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 08:37

Down another 1.25lbs today, making it 3lbs for me so far, since Tuesday! Woo hoo .

However, this takes me back to where I started before last week's excesses. So whilst I'm very pleased to have undone all the bad behaviour, I have - in effect - pretty much lost a week of Bootcamp. Hopefully a good weekend (aka no drinking!) will see another pound shifted, so at least I can say I'm down from my previous lowest weight. I have 4lbs to go before I can say I have lost 2 stone since I started.

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 08:39

Grin halfthesize

BigStickBIWI · 05/10/2012 08:40

MrsHP - I notice you're not on the spreadsheet. Shurely shome mistake?!

MrsHerculePoirot · 05/10/2012 09:01

Yes Soz - keep forgetting to do it when on laptop. It was 16 st 11 though if you want to add me.

lavita I get that after a few days, I find t usually lasts about 3/4 days then my body adjusts. I have never had it the other way on this WOE!

EwanHoozami · 05/10/2012 09:05

at jalapeno-stuffed chicken. cheers, BIWI

dotty2 · 05/10/2012 09:10

Seems like we've got a bit of a mixed picture - some people doing well and losing lots, some people struggling a bit. Hope we all have good things to report come Monday.

I'm somewhere in the middle - was DH's birthday yesterday and I had a planned cheat with a slice of birthday cake (no booze) and woke up with a cracking headache feeling slightly hungover with a horrible carb craving. That'll larrrn me.No more cheats, planned or otherwise. Which means I have to find a polite way to refuse MIL's (inevitable) cake at on our visit for her birthday at the weekend.

MmeLindor · 05/10/2012 09:35

Morning all.

LaVita
Hope you feel better soon.

Soooo, the scales reveal that I am down (estimated) 1.4kg - not sure exactly what weight I was, using the last known. Might 'only' be one kg, but definitely down.

Off to have some sausages and egg for breakfast. How great is the WOE?

MmeLindor · 05/10/2012 09:36

Btw, what makes sausages low-carb? I am assuming absence of fillers - so real proper German Bratwurst should be ok. Will have to investigate when I get there.

PrincessSparkle86 · 05/10/2012 09:37

Morning all Smile

Looks like its a mixed bag here with the weight loss... Lets all keep going though!!

Breakfast today was a whole pack of fresh king prawns... Who cares though, only 0.2g carbs!!!
Lunch and dinner not yet decided as to be quite honest i had a dodgy tummy after last nights tea Blush

Hoping we all have productive days on the weight losing! X

MmeLindor · 05/10/2012 09:42

Right - these ones are 1g carbs per 100g, so for 1/2 packet that would be 1.5g carbs.

Is that too high?

frumpet · 05/10/2012 09:50

Right need advice ! for the last god knows how many years my diet has been made up of wine , carbs ( potatoes and bread) , coffee and diet coke . This week i have given up the wine and the carbs . I am really struggling with what to drink , other than the copious amounts of water . The issue is that i smoke , but i cannot smoke cigarettes on thier own , i have to have a drink with them , water simply wont do , coffee and diet coke have always been my chosen poison to go with my poison ! So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated .

CakeMeIAmYours · 05/10/2012 09:54

Morning all!

Sorry to hear you're not well lavita - I am finding lo-carbing is making me go 'the other way' too, so looks like you might have a bug. Poor you Sad

MmeLindor I'm pleased to see that you share my sausage obsession Smile. I seem to remember from The Apprentice when they made sausages that they are a mixture of meat and fillers (rusk etc). The better quality ones contain less fillers so are lower carb. My butcher makes his own sausages, so I'm actually quite tempted to ask him to make me some carb free ones. Nicely gets round the 'no processed food' rule as I will know that they are just minced up meat and no crap.

This morning have had 2 rashers of bacon and 2 fried eggs (forgot to take the sausages out of the freezer last night - D'oh!)

I have a lovely shoulder of lamb slow cooking which will be done in time for lunch. I'm planning to have it with some buttered leeks.

Dinner will probably involve picking at the remains of the joint (its huuuge!)

I am going to have a go at making lo-carb mint sauce (mint, white wine vinegar, tps of splenda). It is not technically a sweet foodstuff, so I am thinking (hoping) that BIWI will approve?
