Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

All those who are/have considered giving up please remember it is only day 4. Alot of people start a low carb diet and then give up around day 3 to 4 as they feel crap, dizzy etc. This is the time when your body is actually shifting into fat burning mode and if you push through it, the next day you will probably feel great. Alot of people don't realise this, hence they give up and say low carbing doesn't work. Luckily we all have this thread to inform us and keep us on track Smile

WineGless · 04/10/2012 21:30

Cheers mrs Hp et al.
Have confession..... Drinking wine.

Sorry and awaiting BIWI And her big stick.
Back on track tomorrow re alcohol

Bloss, cauliflower rice, blast it in food processor and microwave for few mins. I then fry with some turmeric and then add beaten egg for egg fried rice

Doshusallie · 04/10/2012 21:35

Thanks winegless. Smile

caramelwaffle · 04/10/2012 21:42

Good evening.

I bought the Delouis Mayonnaise. Almost zero carbs and so, so creamy.

Am absolutely full. Had avocado plus teaspoon of mayo for appetiser. Walnut oil covered, oven roasted sweet red pepper stuffed with chopped chorizo. Oven baked lamb steaks with mixed cabbage fried in butter.

Having watched BIWIs video on fats I think I'll just keep the walnut oil for dressing, not cooking.

caramelwaffle · 04/10/2012 21:42

Winegless Thanks

2muchmess · 04/10/2012 21:45

Winegless what happens is i have a small cheat and then it seems to trigger at least 3 days worth of eating all the food that i feel like ive missed out on. Like last time , i ate a biscuit and them ended up binging on the whole packet. Then it seemed pointless to carry on low carbing andthere was a voice in my head tellig me id failed anyway so i might as well eat all tje things id been missing. I really do miss carby food you see! I did low gi diet after babies 3 and 4 and maintained a very good weight for ages but slipped a bit and thought id give this a try as it all makes so much sense to me.
The way it makes me feel better is that it makes me stop craving food all the time. When i eat normally ( high carb) i think about food all day, working out if i can have this or that treat and then just make up for it by eating less later in the day etc. it works fine but is not that healthy because id rather eat loads of choc and them skip dinner! So i prefer not being like that and just thinking of food as a fuel rather than focusing my whole day around it!
And yes i did post a couple of times before on one of the low carb threads here but felt i was being a bit too negative for this forum as people seem to be much more able to respond to positive posts and also those about recipes etc than to feeling negative about low carbing. Even though i believe in it and want to do it i just find it really hard.
Finally sorry about typos am on son's ipod touch!

Jacaqueen · 04/10/2012 21:51

You are allowed WineGless.

I am going to have to watch Question Time sober this week. That will be a new experience.

WineGless · 04/10/2012 21:54

2michmess, we are probably a bit evangelical cos it really works for those us who have stuck with it.

Can I ask what books you have read abut low carbing? I found that I connected emotionally with IPD as my eating is connected to my emotions. Once. Stopped the lows and highs of eating carbs it has made it much easier to deal with the emotional aspect iyswim.

dr John Briffa and Gary taubes books are fantastic at explaining the science behind it all.

WineGless · 04/10/2012 21:57

Bloss and caramelwaffle, thanks for Thanks but not necessary. I don't deserve them Sad

MmeLindor · 04/10/2012 22:18

Winegless
Glad that you got through it ((hugs))

Just do your thing - he will soon change his tune when he sees your weight loss!

I have had a headache all day. And a strange taste in my mouth. Anyone had this?

B: sausages with mayo (bit odd but it was portable)
L: Frittata with spinach and salmon
D: chicken with green beans and homemade sour cream dip

Snack: chicken with cheesey dip (from Tesco - it is about 6g/100g but I only had a tsp so think it will be ok)

Drunk over 2l of water. Our downstairs loo is still not fixed, so having do dash up stairs, which I suppose is using energy.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 22:25

Mme - the strange taste is a very good sign - shows you are in ketosis, which means you have switched into fat-burning mode.

Keep drinking the water and it will help.

MmeLindor · 04/10/2012 22:29

oh, fab. I got new batteries for the scales today so can weight in tomorrow. Not sure what weight I was when I started though.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 22:30

Well weigh in tomorrow and then you've still got another couple of days to see even more loss!

NewStartSameStory · 04/10/2012 22:30

I had was feeling really smug earlier. i made a bacth of cake and didn't like the spoon. Bowl and spoon went straight into the sink. Made a second batch and without thinking licked the bloody spoon. Weirdly though the dough tasted too sweet. Although I know my proportions were right. There was another minor slip up with carrots at tea, although realised quick enough that very few slices were eaten.

Food wise:
B: scrambled egg (with alpro cream and butter)
L: salad with homemade coleslaw
T: pork chops, califlower and broccoli (and a few carrots)
Snacks: 2 plastic cheese slices, alpro yoghurt and a chunk of cheese

A better day in terms of veg but have felt constantly hungry today. Am hoping this is a shift of brain from I will not eat anything because it isn't what i think I want, to this is actually food which I will eat and am going to eat because i think i should be snacking. Hopefully will settle down in a few days with working on reducing the habit of snacking.

There has been a bit too much cheese consumed today but I'd rather that then head for the carbs.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 22:33

Sounds like not too bad a day, NewStart Smile

MmeLindor · 04/10/2012 22:40

I will be in Germany before weigh in day - it is Monday, I presume.

DH has scales but not sure if his weigh same as mine. When we moved to Scotland, I got a terrible fright cause mum's scales weigh about 4lbs heavier than ours. Hadn't weighed myself for a while and panicked Grin

WineGless · 04/10/2012 22:44

New start, looks good

You are really only just starting and have to let your body change from carb burning to fat burning. Mark sissies daily apple log as great info about training on low carb

If you are hungry in between meals then snack whilst ir body is getting into ketosis.

Celery with pate or cream cheese
Cucumber with pâté or cream cheese
Rolled up ham or salami with cream cheese in

Any low carb vegetables with sour cream and chive dio

NewStartSameStory · 04/10/2012 22:46

BIWI hitting extra training tomo as penance. Did pick the fattiest pork chop tonight. And thoroughly enjoyed it too. I always used to eat the fat on chops don't know why I stopped, the fat free cuts are so dry and tasteless.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 22:50

Exactly! The fat is what gives it its lovely taste.

caramelwaffle · 04/10/2012 22:54

I've realised that portion sizes need to be a lot smaller to get the same full/satisfied feeling than for meals that are carb heavy.

Lack of sleep hinders weight loss/stabilisation.

NewStartSameStory · 04/10/2012 23:14

Duely noted Caramel. Blush Going to bed now. night.

cathyandclaire · 04/10/2012 23:38

Snuck on the scales today and am back to where I started on mon, so 2lb gained and lost and heading in the right direction Grin
B: 2 black farmer sausages and mushrooms
L: celery with tuna mayo
D: girly night out...ate well I think, chargrilled chicken with olive oil, lemon and garlic, green beans and salad..... And ... Ummm... Well..ummmm... A glass and a bit of prosecco Blush
Not quite bootcamp I know...but not the carb disaster it could easily have been, will be back on track tomorrow.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 05/10/2012 00:28

Well I DID survive the girlie night in! Just drank sparkling water all night and didn't touch any of the snacks for them at all (will send the leftovers in with DH to his work tomorrow).

I didn't even have time for tea, I grabbed a babybel about 7 just before they all came, and lasted until they left, then mainlined some egg mayo.

I do feel more "full" on this way of eating, I don't have that "hungry an hour later" feeling.

Still no poo though!!

Winegless Thanks for you and colleagues. Hope you have a peaceful nights rest.

butterfliesinmytummy · 05/10/2012 06:29

1kg down, whoop whoop! At last!

Having seared tuna with wasabi and salad for lunch but off to dh's colleague this evening for a meal. They don't know I'm low carbing so will have to be polite and careful.... Determined not to undo my good work though and have volunteered to drive so no drinking for me anyway....

I find I'm adding lots of spice, chilli, mustard and wasabi etc to meals, seems to make them more interesting as day 5/6 seemed to be getting bland. Interesting cold meats like chorizo in scrambled eggs seems to be helping too.

Also a couple of tips for constipation .... A large dose of magnesium (up to 1500mg) before bed helps (it relaxes muscles... ) or 750ml water with 2 tablespoons organic apple cider vinegar in it. Tastes a bit yuk (better with a spoonful of honey but you know what biwi will say so better not) but works well and has lots of health benefits...

Have a great day everyone

ForSaletotheHighestBidder · 05/10/2012 07:22

1.4 kg down = 3 lb! Even though last night I had book club and had 1 glass of white and literally about 4 carrot sticks. Avoided the crisps, bread sticks and hummus. Smile
I do like diets where you can stuff your face.
