Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

Well they are 7.6g per 100g.....

NewStartSameStory · 04/10/2012 09:32

Down to 12 stone so almost half a stone. Probably accountable due to reducing caffine intake, constantly peeing and monthly fluxations so not proper loss iyswim but I looking in the fridge and saw the veg as food. Stuff to be thought about as eating out of choice. And that is the big step that I wanted.

EwanHoozami · 04/10/2012 09:44

I used to see threads on here entitled "Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels" and sniffed judgily thinking it a rather trite and dodgy message. And had they not met my Alabama Caramel Cake?

But this morning I totally get it. I am wearing a little denim skirt that last graced my backside nearly four years ago. And I am wearing it with a tight fitting t-shirt Shock

I feel bloody marvelous. I'm six weeks in. Stick with it, people! :)

B: scrambled eggs with mushroom
L: Pub lunch. It's a Harvester-style place so I'll have a steak & salad
D: Tuna & asparagus nicoise without the spuds

caramelwaffle · 04/10/2012 09:44

Good morning everyone.

Thinking of you and your colleagues Winegless

Had a glass of wine last night. One. And have a big hangover. It's just not worth it.

Haven't had alcohol for a short while as I had changed my diet to protein, starchy carbs, low fat and no alcohol.

Also had a very small amount of the food I had served which had been made with a sugary ingredient.

Today had cold meats and chilli oil for breakfast. Lots of herbal tea. Also am feeling so very dehydrated, so will crack on with the tap water. Soda water is much easier to stomach. Will load up at Sainsbury's when I go to get the mayonnaise later.

foosty · 04/10/2012 09:46

morning all!

I've been so good all week. No booze since Saturday night (this is a record for me lately Blush), no carbs apart from in veg, exercising...I haven't weighed myself though as I think that the exercise I'm doing is making me gain muscle weight and I don't want to depress myself.

BIWI - can you look at my typical day's food and suggest what I should be doing differently?

Yesterday: (after an hour of circuits) B/fast -3 scrambled eggs, mattesons sausage, smoked cheese and mushrooms
Lunch - some sliced chicken - wasn't hungry all afternoon as I'd had breakfast late
Dinner - homemade bolognese (beef mince, can tomatoes, passata, beef stock, herbs, splash worcester sauce, mushrooms, 2 carrots in the whole pot, onion, with rocket salad, cherry tomatoes, beetroot (I know, I know - just read about that!), parmesan and homemade white wine vinegar and wholegrain mustard dressing

Should I be actively avoiding any of that, apart from the beetroot? Also had about 2 1/2 litres of water, 3 cups of tea with spash milk, and 2 cups of herbal tea.

Sorry to bug you! Off to yoga now, back in a bit Smile

caramelwaffle · 04/10/2012 09:51

Well done on your weight loss to those who have weighed in so far.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 09:58

foosty - if you've not weighed and seen how your weight has changed, then you may not be doing anything 'wrong'!

But, looking at your meals yesterday, I would make the following observations:

  • was the sliced chicken one that you had roasted or was it from a packet? If the latter, check that it doesn't have sugar added - and it is also processed, along with the sausage and smoked cheese
  • your Bolognese used both canned tomatoes and passata, which would be adding a lot of carbs. The carrots and onioins too will have added carbs
  • and beetroot is definitely to be avoided!

Everything else looks fine. Did you weigh yourself at the beginning? Exercise will make muscle, but I'm not sure it can do that in 3 days!

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 10:05

Doshusallie - a stall is not when you don't lose for 3 days! A stall is when you go for several weeks without a loss.

If you want a lower carb Bolognese, I would need to know what other ingredients you are using. If that jar of sauce is divided by 2 of you, and all you are using as well as that is mince, then it is pretty low carb.

If I were making it from scratch, it would be like this:

500g beef mince = 0 carbs
150g shallots = 4.95g carbs
carton Sainsbury's Basics chopped tomatoes = 12g carbs
125g mushrooms = 0.5g carbs
1 x Oxo cube = 1.5g carbs (from memory)

Total = 18.95g carbs

This makes enough for 4 people, so would be just under 5g carbs per person

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 10:06

NewStart - WOO HOO!

Well done. It doesn't matter what it is, it's still almost half a stone, and it has set you well on your way into ketosis, and fat-burning, which is exactly what we're trying to achieve.

You're not leaving us now, are you? Grin

Doshusallie · 04/10/2012 10:06

Thanks BIWI. Think I'll use the jar and have more veg than sauce.

I haven't lost anything for over 2 weeks.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 10:07

But you are also very close to your target weight, are you not?

If you're really concerned, list your meals over the last few days and let me see if I can help.

LittleFrieda · 04/10/2012 10:07

Is it a weigh-in day?

halfthesize · 04/10/2012 10:10

LittleFrieda no not weigh in day, I just like to keep tabs on mineSmile

noddyholder · 04/10/2012 10:18

I am at that danger stage where after a few days I feel slimmer in my clothes and on scales and get 'relaxed' about things.Am determined not to!

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 10:20

LittleFrieda - next official day is Monday. Just a few of us a tad over-excited!

Noddy - don't do it! You know that it won't help. And those clothes will become too tight in a nano-second Grin

vnmum · 04/10/2012 10:21

Dosh Hoping I've not got you confused with someone else but haven't you just been training hard for a triathlon? The Paleo guys seem to suggest that lots of cardio (i.e what you have been doing for training) can stress the body and increase cortisol, therefore stopping weight loss and sometimes if you do it for very long time can even start weight gain around your middle. Maybe your body is just sorting itself out after all the exercise.

I haven't been doing loads of cardio but for the past few months I have been doing quite alot of exercise (for me) with weights and runs and sprint intervals. This week I just seem to have lost motivation and have no real energy to get to the gym and feel achey. Because I have been low carbing since feb I know it is not carb flu and after reading around I have worked out my body could just be asking for a break (remembering that every time I do weights my body has to repair itself) so I am not going to the gym this week (although all the classes colly is doing makes me feel guilty Smile).

Maybe your body is stalling because it is trying to repair after your training?

If I got you mixed up and you didn't do the triathlon, ignore me Grin

Doshusallie · 04/10/2012 10:23

Yes - and got to 9 1 a few weeks ago so just want to get there again.

B: Greek yoghurt or boiled eggs
L: salad, eggs, cold meats, frankfurter sausages, low carb sausages, chunks of cheese, tuna mayo, roasted veggies (lunches made up of these you understand, not all of it at the same time)
Teas: salmon burgers with buttery veg, chicken curry with green beans, salmon fillets with veg, pork chops with broccolli, low carb sausages with veg etc

Have snacked on pork scratchings occasionally. Have 2 coffees with cream a day, and 2 teas with lactose free milk (a splash). Decaf tea and coffee. Did have a g&t on Tuesday night. No nuts, fruit, sugar, rice, bread, pasta etc. Am drinking 2 litres of water a day. Shall I just carry on carrying on?

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 10:24

vnmum speaks senses (as always!)

There is a nasty cold going around at the moment, vnmum, so you could be coming down with that. Always worth listening to your body and not forcing it into hard exercise.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 10:24

Sigh.

Speaks 'sense', not senses.

Maybe I should just go back to bed this morning! No danger of stressing my body there!

Doshusallie · 04/10/2012 10:25

Yes that's me vnmum. And thank you. I have only done one run this week compared to a run and a swim 3 times a week for the past 3, so that could gave a bearing, yes.
