Week 1 Weigh-In - Little Black Dress Low Carb Boot Camp

WillieWaggledagger · 30/09/2012 16:17

i know you're all dying to get started on the low carb boot camp, and for those who haven't done this before, here is the link to the spreadsheet where you should record your starting weight for Monday 1st October in column c next to your name. Please don't touch any other columns for now

weight is recorded in lbs, so if you have problems converting from kg or stones, FiddledeFat made a handy widget which can be found in the tab at the bottom labelled 'conversion'

if your name isn't on the spreadsheet then you can add yourself by adding a new line and dragging the formulae down from an adjacent row, or just ask me to add you and I will do so as soon as i can

good luck with the first week of bootcamp!

noddy I know what you mean. I sometimes get into a mindset of seeing a good weight on the scales then eating carby crap. It almost feels subconscious, like a subconscious self sabotage. I am being determined this bootcamp to alter my mind and look at the good number on scales as a sign to keep on, not relax. I have a xmas ball coming up in december and have seen a lovely dress but I will need to order it november as it comes from china and will need to get here so I need to keep the self sabotage at bay so I can know what size to order.

On another note, very strange and maybe unrelated but I finished my period last week but my boobs still feel full and heavy and a bit tender. They hurt when I take my bra off. Usually they shrink back by the time my period has finished so not sure what my hormones are doing and if it has anything to do with this WOE.

Doshusallie · 04/10/2012 10:27

I wish I was still in my dressing gown. Got all snazzied up this morning to take ds2 to his harvest festival service only to realise that he was actually right and the service is tomorrow.

Mind you why I am taking him anywhere after the shenanigans of last night is a mystery! Which is a whole other thread.

Just checking in - thanks for the giving blood advice, BIWI. I am already starting to feel more like my old self, so think should be fine but will see on the day and cancel if needs be. I am planning to run later so that will help me see how 'normal' I really am...

DH's birthday today so we all had bacon and eggs together. But of a rush pre-school run. I had mushrooms too and passed on the melon and muffins that everyone else had. (Don't mind the muffin but really fancied a slice of melon.)

Have planned fab sounding Indian meal for tonight with spiced cauliflower and coconut soup, followed by BIWI's veggy curry, spiced lamb chops and green beans with chilli. I also plan to have a small sliver of cake but am planning one that gets its yumminess more from double cream than sugar and is made with nuts rather than flour. Still a disaster but the DCs will think it too unfriendly if I don't have any. And no more cheating for the rest of the fortnight. Am feeling pretty motivated actually as sneaked in a weigh in this am and have lost 2lbs. Yay.

Doshusallie · 04/10/2012 10:46

Have posted in food but thought you guys might know.....can I freeze mascarpone cheese?

NewStartSameStory · 04/10/2012 11:04

Tbh weight loss is an added bonus. I need a new way of thinking about food. No longer seeing veg as the work of the devil and getting off the sugar high low cycle. That is more important to me and has more baring on my decision to stay atm. I am painfully aware that 12stone is my normal weight and that I would quite possibly have dropped back to this anyway over a week or so. My lifestyle is my biggest problem and my training suffering as a result. I am fed up on being off with injury so time to kick butt and get sorted. Considering training tomo morning. It might be the way madness lies. But considering it.

NewStartSameStory · 04/10/2012 11:05

But definitely still in.

And massive congratulations to everyone - whether you have lost weight or just surviving carb flu with determination!

dotty2 · 04/10/2012 11:14

Newstartsamestory - me too. I would like to be thinner, but mostly I want to feel better and I know I feel better without the sugar highs and lows. I've been low carbing in a less strict way (eating nuts and berries, the odd oat cake) since Feb with a bit of a falling off the wagon over the summer. With the falling off the wagon, I'm nearly as heavy as when I started, but feel loads better - used to get terrible blood-sugar related headaches and they've pretty much gone, unless I do something silly like eat cake and nothing else for lunch on the day my period is due (won't be making that mistake again, but I was on holiday)

WillieWaggledagger · 04/10/2012 11:19

yes i had a rotten time with carb flu (also gave up caffeine the same week, i thought i was going to DIE) so bravo to everyone who is persevering with this. you are right dotty and newstart it is worth it

I gave up caffeine a few months ago and it was harsh but the up side is that going low carb this time has been painless I feel fine and am assuming all my other cases of carb flu were caffeine withdrawal so am hoping this can keep me going!

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 11:32

The worst withdrawal I ever had was giving up caffeine. Which is why I've struggled to do it this time around.

NewStart - how tall are you?

NewStartSameStory · 04/10/2012 11:37

Did anyone find their sleep patterns settling down by low carbing? This is something that is a Big issue for me. I am regularly doing 20hr days on 2-4hrs sleep. Needless to say I constantly feel like death, want to eat rubbish and overload with caffine. I know until I get rid of the caffine completely this isn't going to be completely sorted but did the better diet help in the first place?

NewStartSameStory · 04/10/2012 11:38

Biwi - 170cm/5ft 7.

I mean 12stone is the weight I normally see on the scales not the weight I should be. I am aiming for about 10 stone ish as my weight target.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 11:40

Ah. I wondered!

Crap about the sleep. Getting rid of the caffeine will definitely help. I sleep much better when I'm low carbing and especially when I'm not drinking alcohol.

cathyandclaire · 04/10/2012 11:41

Newstart, I definitely sleep better low carbing...just waking up to go for copious wees at the moment...but going straight back to sleep whereas before I would have tossed and turned for hours. I also suffered from reflux giving me a night cough which has totally cleared to ( obviously the decreased Wine won't have harmed that too Wink

HumphreyCobbler · 04/10/2012 11:49

hello everyone. Hope the carb flu passes quickly

I am really noticing a difference now I have given up cheese. I think the weight has started to shift. It makes me annoyed I didn't do this earlier tbh, I am managing fine without it!

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 12:11

Good news about the weight, but Sad about the cheese. Still, knowing what works/doesn't work for you is important learning.

cathy another reflux sufferer here - also disappears when low carbing! I could never understand why, when I was eating 'healthily' that the Bran Flakes with milk and a chopped banana made me feel so bad ...

NewStartSameStory · 04/10/2012 12:15

I am full of questions today, sorry.

How do you keep the fats up when you need to be completely dairy free. Am intollerant/boarderline allergy (antihistamines required) and whilst I can cheat with the dairy and do currently at stupid levels it would be far better to get rid of all dairy in my diet.

caramelwaffle · 04/10/2012 12:18

Am climbing up the walls for sugar! even if I am really full up.

It's crazy making! Just sticking to herbal tea.

Haven't felt I have lost any weight (I have however: I weighed myself - something I said I wouldn't do till the Mondays)

Makes it worth it.

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 12:18

Does dairy, for you, include butter?

Other ways:

  • buy fattier cuts of meat, e.g. belly pork, breast of lamb, beef shin, chicken thighs
  • have oily fish, e.g. mackerel
  • have oily dressings on salads
  • use mayonnaise
  • fry rather than grill
BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 12:19

If you are ok with butter, then fry with butter and add butter to your veg once cooked

caramelwaffle · 04/10/2012 12:19

I am going to have to cut out the cheese also. Have some full fat goats milk yogurt. Is this ok? (plain)

BigStickBIWI · 04/10/2012 12:19

caramel - how much have you lost?

Try the yoghurt + vanilla if you're craving sweet stuff - it does help.

caramelwaffle · 04/10/2012 12:21

Only two pounds.

I'll try the yogurt with vanilla essence - thanks.

Collywibbles · 04/10/2012 12:22

Sorry vnmum - I don't want to make you feel bad - it is only recently I have started doing this much exercise - I had to change something .... If it is any consolation I felt absolutely dreadful in classes this morning and thought I was going to die lol! She had us doing uphill interval sprints with squats / lunges / mountain climbers etc in between :-( And my poor abs lol! I am going to have to use lower weight tonight in body pump I think!

I made my chocolate peanut square things and wasn't even tempted to touch them (polishes halo!) & to be honest melted peanut butter looks pretty rank! I ended up making some pretty tags for the bags as well so hopefully SSAFA managed to get some money for them!

Right must eat .........

NewStartSameStory · 04/10/2012 12:23

Ideal it should include butter but i think as long as i can get rid of most I could be ok with the butter. Will aim for reduction down to that point. Not going to do it this week or next though. Only so much change I can put my body through in one go.

I have got the caffine down to around half of what it was. Can't cut back training though so that is a bit of a pita. In fact supposed to be increasing it over the next three weeks. Want to reduce caffine by half again next week.

Need to think about lunch. Not currently hungry though. So will consider it whilst carrying on with doing stuff for another half hour.
