The Little Black Dress Low Carb Bootcamp - starting in 2 week's time!

BIWI · 16/09/2012 21:43

Following on from the success of Bootcamp v1, where we lost in the region of 70 stone between us, we will be running a 10 week v2 Bootcamp, starting on Monday 1 October.

This is designed to take us up to the end of the first week in December, by which time you should have lost at least half a stone - and that's being pessimistic. There's every chance you could lose more than a stone over that period of time! Plenty of time to make sure that you can get into that Little Black Dress without the lumps and bumps showing too much.

This is how it will work:

The first two weeks will be very strict. I will shout at you a lot and will wave my big stick around with gay abandon. After this period, you can then relax into Bootcamp Light or, if it suits you, stick with Bootcamp for the remaining 8 weeks.

We have a Spreadsheet of Marvellousness, which will be upated each week, so that you can plot your progress.

There are 10 simple rules here , and it's really easy to do. No weighing or counting (unless you really want to). And above all, lots of support from all those who are doing it alongside you.

Who is up for it?

Bloody hell, it starts on MONDAY! Shock

I'm a bit excited / terrified, even though I've been pretty much doing it already for a month. The norty carbs have been creeping in (a square or two of plain choc here, a slosh of gravy there..) so I need a bit of discipline back.

I may not be a font of knowledge on the nutrition front but I do know a good LBD when I see one and THIS is amazing is beautifully cut and has a super-secret smoothing lining.. I can't believe I'm singing the praises of M&S clothes but it's been a long time since I felt so fab in a dress.

Although obviously the size 14 I bought will be hanging off me by Christmas Wink

mumtoblaire · 26/09/2012 19:12

This is just what I need! I have Coeliac disease so this is ideal for me. At the moment I just fill up with Gluten free pasta and rice. I still am not eating the correct amount of protein or getting anywhere near the recommended calcium intake.

Am I allowed milk?
Yoghurts?

I need to be organised or else I will just eat anything when I am hungry. A few years ago I followed the Atkins diet and lost 1st in 2 weeks and it stayed off for ages as I was active and didn't go mad with my eating. I got fed up with eggs and tuna though so must be more pro-active and not feel sorry for myself.

Will miss the alcohol though!

BIWI I am interested to find out why we shouldn't cook with olive oil??
Also, do we need to be worried about lack of fibre?

Liveinthepresent · 26/09/2012 21:09

BIWI thanks so much for the extra info about what's allowed - am disproportionately pleased olives arent banned in Bootcamp !
MsRinky you have done so well - makes me more determined.
EwanHoozami love your name and your LBD !

Am full of trepidation ...

HavingAnOffDAy · 26/09/2012 21:17

Just checked out the spreadsheet and am strangely excited about Monday Grin

Been trying hard to follow the rules this week so will hopefully see a loss by Monday

Viperidae · 26/09/2012 23:29

Don't know if this has been mentioned already but can we do the speadsheet weight thing like last time and count down from 100, if wanted, rather than put our actual weight on?

I have a huge amount to lose and, while I don't mind admitting that, I don't think I can bring myself to put my weight on anything just in case anybody IRL ever recognises me on here Blush

Collywibbles · 26/09/2012 23:59

Please can I join you? I have been a long time lurker on BIWI's threads as she and others talk lots of sense!

I have been LCing for over a year now - lost 1 1/2 stone relatively quickly and have pretty much maintained since then which is good, but I have probably another 1/2 - 1 stone which I need to lose so I think bootcamp is in order to get me back on track. It also helps that my husband is away for the next 3 weeks so I can eat what I like with no moaning! I also need to tackle my nut and cheese addiction - I am often guilty of having just a lump of cheese or handful of nuts for a "meal" ...

WillieWaggledagger · 27/09/2012 07:52

of course viper, just put 100 in column C on monday

Why it's best not to cook with olive oil

And this, from Dr Mercola:

"While olive oil can and should be a healthy part of your diet, what most people do not appreciate is that olive oil should not be used to cook with.

Olive oil is primarily a monounsaturated fat. This means that it has one double bond in its fatty acid structure. The problem with olive oil is its overabundance of oleic acid, which creates an imbalance on the cellular level that can inhibit prostaglandin production, which can increase the risk of breast cancer and heart disease.

So if you plan on using a fat to cook with, your clear choice is coconut oil. Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid which is a proven antiviral and immune system builder."

Fatontheinside - if you make sure you are getting as many of your carbs as possible from veg/salad, then you shouldn't lack dietary fibre.

Are we (and I hope that this doesn't sound like a rude question) going to be doing just low carbing? The other LC thread seems to have got very confusing with fasting and dropping meals like breakfast before exercising etc - the reason I so liked the bootcamp and the 15 weeks or so which followed was because it seemed very sensible to eat three meals a day and increase the water we drank and just become overall more healthy.

Introducing the fasting didn't seem to fit with the original ethos?

BIWI · 27/09/2012 09:35

No - we aren't going to be fasting on Bootcamp!

I'm experimenting with it a bit at the moment, but I'm not doing the whole low calorie/calorie restriction thing as (personally) I think that way madness lies. I never, ever, ever again want to be obsessed with how many calories I've had/have left. It makes eating (and life) so dull. Food should be a pleasure and, IME, low carbing allows us to eat much better and more satisfying meals.

The reason I'm experimenting with it is that my weight loss has slowed down, and I'm seeing if this gets it going again. And I know that as I am now ketogenically adapted (i.e. my body is burning fat for fuel rather than carbs), and that my blood sugar levels are stable often I'm not hungry first thing, so rather than forcing myself to eat breakfast, I'm skipping it if I can.

Bootcamp is just going to be about low carbing, and the advice for the first two weeks remains the same - you must eat three meals a day. The reason for this is to ensure that people get into ketosis and get their blood sugar levels stable, and therefore to ensure that they are not hungry - which is a key benefit of low carbing.

Oh forgive me bootcampers for I have sinned! Was feeling horribly sluggish yesterday and didn't eat proper meals at all, then after a bad work day I ate a Twirl, some Minstrels and some Hula Hoops FFS while waiting for dd at dance... I'm so annoyed with myself...I DIDN"T EVEN ENJOY THEM!!!
Bizarrely I feel great today, DH said I smell of ketones and I lost 1.5lb, my body is weird Confused

I really need to eat regularly and well to keep on track so curly kale is in crisping and have asparagus frittata in fridge ready for lunch.
Maybe it was the blowout I needed to get me in the right frame of mind for Monday?!

PrincessSparkle86 · 27/09/2012 11:27

All signed up Grin will be good when were all doing the same thing Smile support of the last bootcamp was fantastic!! X

PrincessSparkle86 · 27/09/2012 11:28

cathy dont worry its just a slip up... Ive had plenty of those! Tomorrows another day... Just eat right and drink plenty and things will even out :/

WillieWaggledagger · 27/09/2012 12:00

cathy it ain't bootcamp yet, and the fact that you've slipped up but found out you didn't really enjoy it before bootcamp starts means you have an advantage!

cathyandclaire · 27/09/2012 12:09

Thanks Princess and WWd Thanks
Can I just say how yummy and filling the Kale crisps are, I may try them with ginger next time, it's like the deep fried seaweed you get in Chinese restaurants.

halfthesize · 27/09/2012 13:05

Afternoon all, I'm all signed up and ready to goWink

Cathy dont worry, it was just one day, drink plenty of water today x

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/09/2012 13:38

I need ideas for cabbage...

I have a red pointed one and a pak choi - what would be yummy?

WillieWaggledagger · 27/09/2012 14:36

chop cabbage and fry up with bacon and butter?

pak choi could be roasted or fried with sesame oil, soy sauce, chilli and fresh ginger?

NotAgainAndAgain · 27/09/2012 14:39

I am ready, in low start now.
I have lost a stone while doing it non-commitedly, but need to loose two more to avoid buying another dress for a family wedding. Shall I put my DH to bets?

NotAgainAndAgain · 27/09/2012 14:41

Just back from Germany, chose low carb side - cabbage fried up, with crispy bacon bits on top.

NotAgainAndAgain · 27/09/2012 14:44

in my pre-bootcamping trials it proved I am low resistant to "no puddings at all". ANd a piece of dark chocolate does not elevate the need - I need at least two rows. How to stop myself??? DH suggest going to bed straight after supper.

BIWI · 27/09/2012 15:11

Don't buy it in the first place Grin
