Lots of people have already said they're up for this, so come and sign in on this thread, so we know who we all are! The wonderful WilleWaggleDagger has taken over the job of Spreadsheet Management, and you may find that your name is already on the Spreadsheet of Wonderfulness:

link to the spreadsheet

You will also find the rules and some important info about allowed veg on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

But to give you a brief summary of things:

We start on Monday, with two strict weeks of low carbing. It's important that you are strict about it, to get your body used to it and for maximum weight loss. We are also, in these two weeks, getting our bodies to switch from burning carbohydrates to burning fat - which means you will become ketogenically adapted.

There are only 10 rules to follow, and the idea behind these is to keep Bootcamp as simple as possible. There is no need to count carbs or weigh your food (unless you particularly want to). In summary, these are:

1. Eat three, proper meals a day

2. Avoid processed food

3. Eat lots of fat

4. Make sure you are eating vegetables and salads with your food

5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter, which is unlimited)

6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day

7. No alcohol (Sorry - I did say it was strict!)

8. No fruit

9. No nuts/seeds

10. No sugar or artificial sweeteners

Here are the rules, with the reasons/explanations as well

One of the most important things about low carbing is preparation.

This is not an easy diet to follow if you leave you food choices until you're starving, or if you are out and about. You will quickly find that the world of on-the-go food and snacks is all about the carbohydrates! Think about what you're going to cook next week, and plan your food choices and shopping accordingly. There is no need to cook anything different for you from that which your family will be eating, although carbohydrate-centred meals (e.g. lasagne or risotto) are obviously out of the question. Focus on meals that are based around meat/fish and vegetables/salad - your family can always have potatoes with theirs, or some other form of carb.

If you're out and about, buying low carb food can be difficult. However, places like M&S Food are getting better - you can buy pre-packed cheese in individual portions, or packets of ham/chicken/prawns, for example. Olives make a great snack, and they are very low in carbs.

It's really helpful to know something about the thinking/science behind low carbing

If you can, try and do some reading up about it. Good books are:

Dr Atkins "The New Diet Revolution"
Dr Charles Clark "The New High Protein Diet"
India Knight/Neris Thomas "The Idiot Proof Diet" (there is also an IPD recipe book, which has some great recipes in it)
Dr John Briffa "Escape the Diet Trap"
Gary Taubes "The Diet Delusion"/"Why We Get Fat"

There's loads of information online, and this site is really useful

.... and obviously there will the LBD threads. We will have one weigh-in thread, and I will start a week-by-week chat thread.

cathyandclaire Thu 27-Sep-12 11:43:06

I'm in smile By Xmas my body will no longer be 33% blubber!

signing in, thanks BIWI!

i will fully update the spreadsheet on sunday afternoon/evening with everyone's names

excuse the self-indulgence but i want to get this down to remind myself. i am sort of maintaining in terms of the numbers on the scales, but i still have a wobbly layer of fat and need bootcamp to keep me on the straight and narrow. i hope to run three times a week and do shred three times a week.

the most important things for me are:

- no sweeteners (hides empty diet coke bottle on desk... the cause of this is the half bottle glass of wine i had last night)

- no cream (i find it very easy to overdo it and it makes me feel sluggish)

- no chocolate (i do only eat the 90% variety, but i find it increasingly hard to limit myself to one or two squares, and feel myself slipping into dodgy eating behaviours... and the (albeit small) amount of sugar interferes with my sleeping)

all the other rules i have much less problem adhering to

Collywibbles Thu 27-Sep-12 12:10:19

EwanHoozami Thu 27-Sep-12 13:12:49

Thank you for adding me! thanks

Great intro BIWI. the Briffa book is indeed a really useful introduction and certainly provided me with my lightbulb moment.

I'm three weeks in and five kilos down and am looking forward to my fortnight of dicsipline.

Poppy1234 Thu 27-Sep-12 13:29:14

Hello! Would love to be a part of this. Thank you so much for doing this BIWI. I don't have a great deal of weight to loose more a bit of post holiday poundage but I am convinced of the health benefits and would love to attempt bootcamp to get into the frame of mind so it becomes a way of life. Totally agree with WillieWaggledaggar, I convince myself I am being super good with my 90% chocolate and then eat far too much of it. I have a bar of Hotel Chocolat 100% in my desk drawer and it's hard work!

Signing in!

I'm in & looking forward to it! Spreadsheet looks amazing. Would like to loose 7-10lbs ideally. Going to treat myself to some proper scales, instead of mine which are so tiny its a best guess what they read anyway - and can alter the result by leaning slightly!

Livelongandprosper Thu 27-Sep-12 14:21:56

I'm in! Please add me to the spreadsheet, I weighed in this morning at 129lbs. The first bootcamp was a wonder for me, I lost over a stone and broke an addiction to sweet things that had been making me ill.

My eyes still like the look of sweets and cakes and puddings though and this was my downfall as since then I've had an operation and been off work for 8 weeks. Being inactive and eating the gifts of cakes, biscuits and chocolates from kind visitors (I didn't eat everything I was given and did ask people not to bring them in the end) has put 7 lbs back on and started up the blood sugar highs and lows again.

I'm going on holiday on October 13th and I want to be at least 5 lbs lighter by then. The most important thing for me though is to stamp those sweet things back down where they belong - they give me hot flushes, headaches, irritable stomach.... the list goes on. I know from last time that if I can stabilise my blood sugar I don't crave the sweeties.

tartiflette Thu 27-Sep-12 14:30:20

Count me in. I WILL get down to 9st <inhales porky scratchings>

Sign me up please, need to take action. I'm 188 at the moment and have a milestone birthday in 9 months time. I've done low carbing before and like many, the sugar swings are my downfall so need to eliminate them completely.

Looking forward to Monday!

Doshusallie Thu 27-Sep-12 14:46:22

Signing in.

The no alcohol will be my main challenge.

jammietart Thu 27-Sep-12 14:57:33

I'm in too having lurked on LC threads before. Would like to loose 10 lbs which I think would put me firmly in a size 12. My downfalls are alcohol and fruit.

ForSaletotheHighestBidder Thu 27-Sep-12 15:24:06

I'm in, however have school reunion smack bang in the middle of the 2 week strict bootcamp. May not be able to avoid alcohol completely. blush

Just signed myself on to the spreadsheet - is that right?

Never mind the diet rules, I haven't got the spreadsheet rules yet blush

BIWI Thu 27-Sep-12 15:27:31

grin

I'm sure Willie will sort you out soon. (That sounds really weird ...)

ForSaletotheHighestBidder Thu 27-Sep-12 15:35:37

Oops- 176 lb as at today.

coldcat Thu 27-Sep-12 15:43:50

Hello everyone ....been a lurker long enough also, so count me in....hoping for a loss of 10lbs - 1 stone. The padding layer must go!

sybilfaulty Thu 27-Sep-12 16:11:27

Hello everyone

Thanks for the thread and the spreadsheet girls. I'm in and looking forward to it. I may change name in honour of the Great British Bake off, but am happy to remain Sybil on the spreadsheet. I'll weigh on Monday morning and we'll go from there.

Hurray! Much looking forward.

Cheers << clinks water >>
