The Little Black Dress Low Carb Bootcamp - starting in 2 week's time!

BIWI · 16/09/2012 21:43

Following on from the success of Bootcamp v1, where we lost in the region of 70 stone between us, we will be running a 10 week v2 Bootcamp, starting on Monday 1 October.

This is designed to take us up to the end of the first week in December, by which time you should have lost at least half a stone - and that's being pessimistic. There's every chance you could lose more than a stone over that period of time! Plenty of time to make sure that you can get into that Little Black Dress without the lumps and bumps showing too much.

This is how it will work:

The first two weeks will be very strict. I will shout at you a lot and will wave my big stick around with gay abandon. After this period, you can then relax into Bootcamp Light or, if it suits you, stick with Bootcamp for the remaining 8 weeks.

We have a Spreadsheet of Marvellousness, which will be upated each week, so that you can plot your progress.

There are 10 simple rules here , and it's really easy to do. No weighing or counting (unless you really want to). And above all, lots of support from all those who are doing it alongside you.

Who is up for it?

Captain - you keep your red wine in the fridge? My MIL does that.....are you my MIL? [scared]

tartiflette · 26/09/2012 11:57

Quite surprised at how much I'm looking forward to Monday...
We're away at a big family wedding over the weekend which basically involves non stop eating and drinking from Friday night onwards.. Ideal boost for the metabolism ready for bootcamp? Wink

Sadly I've been trying to be quite strict with myself over the last four days in preparation for the teeny tiny dress (narrow rather than short I hasten to add) I appear to have bought for Saturday - but have not lost anything at all so far Confused

BIWI · 26/09/2012 12:29

A list of what you can have in Bootcamp:

Any fresh/unprocessed meat and fish. (Anything processed, like crab sticks or pre-prepared burgers are likely to have carbs - always check the back of the packet)

Processed meats/fish - bacon, ham, smoked salmon, etc - in moderation (not just because they have carbs but also because they often contain artificial ingredients, which we are also trying to avoid)

Eggs - no limit on these

Veg/salad from the allowed veg list (and focusing on those that are 3g carbs per 100g or less)

Lemon/limes - you can use a little juice in marinades/dressings - just don't go mad and use a bucket load.

Frozen veg can be brilliant and is often surprisingly good - whole leaf spinach is especially good; cauliflower and broccoli are good standbys.

Tinned fish like tuna (if you're buying things like sardines/pilchards/mackerel in sauces, check the carb count first)

Tinned tomatoes - for soups/sauces; although they are quite carby, a little can go a long way. Sainsbury's Basics chopped tomatoes in a carton are lower in carbs

Olive oil for salad dressings (ideally you shouldn't cook with olive oil but should use something like coconut oil instead - but coconut oil is very expensive, so this one is up to you)

Sesame oil for stir fries and marinades

Vinegar for salad dressings - not balsamic vinegar, which is very high in carbs, compared with ordinary vinegar which is zero carbs

Soy sauce - for marinades or adding to stir fries, but beware it does contain carbs - check the labels first

Mayonnaise - again, check the labels as the carb counts vary tremendously (and always full fat)

Butter - as much as you like for either cooking or putting on veg

Cheese/cream - in moderation; dairy can stall some people so go easy on this until you know if it affects you or not

Yoghurt tends to be better tolerated - always, always, always full fat though and always plain! (Vanilla extract in yoghurt is lovely - Waitrose make one which is sugar-free)

Olives - these are very low in carbs and make a useful snack as well as an addition to salads/sauces

Water. If you find still/tap water boring, then sparkling water is fine. You should be aiming to drink at least two litres of water a day.

That's a starter for ten - no doubt others will add to this!

Re the spreadsheet BIWI - do we fill it in, or do we tell you the weigh-in results and you do it?

Shagmundfreud · 26/09/2012 12:42

Coconut oil is cheap if you can find an Indian grocers!

Shagmundfreud · 26/09/2012 12:46

The spreadsheet column 'total loss to 01.Oct' - is that our starting weight on that date? Or our starting weight when diet began (in my case I'ce been low carbing since 1st week of September and have lost 10lbs - I know weigh 158 lbs).

NigellasGuest · 26/09/2012 12:46

shagmund, can you get the cold pressed coconut oil in an indian grocers?

Themumsnot · 26/09/2012 12:48

Thanks BIWI - I've just printed that list out, really helpful.
And thanks for the spreadsheet Willie, that is amazing.
I have four stone to lose - have been putting on and losing the same two stone over and over again for the past 3/4 years - and I am really going to crack it this time. Smile

Shagmundfreud · 26/09/2012 12:51

Today so far:
smoked mackerel - small bit
Coffee with lactose free milk (3g carbs per 100 mls)
Coleslaw made with cabbage and a small bit of cheddar.

Dinner is sliced chicken breast stir fried with mushrooms, stock cube, fresh oregano, lots of black pepper and 3 tablespoons of cream. Tiny squirt of lemon juice.

NigellasGuest · 26/09/2012 12:52

Hello, welcome to all new LC-ers / Bootcampers!

willie thanks for spreadsheet.
Who else simply cannot believe that it is October on Monday??!!

Shagmundfreud · 26/09/2012 12:52

Will check when I next go to the Asian cash and carry.

NigellasGuest · 26/09/2012 12:57

shagmund basically the cold pressed kind is solid, hard until it igets warm and then it goes liquid. That's the good kind Wink

BIWI · 26/09/2012 12:57

Willowisp Grin thanks for sharing!

captainmummy - each Monday you go into the spreadsheet and enter your own weight

OP posts:
Shagmundfreud · 26/09/2012 13:05

Ok - well that's the type I use.

For some reason it's sold in narrow necked bottles, so you have to warm it up before you can pour it out. I suppose in Mumbai it rarely gets cold enough to solidify completely!

LaVitaBellissima · 26/09/2012 13:07

So weigh in on Monday Grin BIWI Please wave your stick this way!

God how am I going to cope without fruit, wine more wine and biscuits Confused

Has anyone done a menu plan for Monday that I can copy?

NigellasGuest · 26/09/2012 13:32

shagmund i think you're on to something there!

my lunch: prawns and mushrooms sauteed in butter and cream with courgettes

MsRinky · 26/09/2012 13:48

Thank you for adding me ! I have updated it today, and will amend on 1st October and update from there.

As promised, here's my six month update:

I started low carbing on 26th March, just before the original bootcamp. I have not been perfect during those 6 months. I have been on three holidays, gone to two weddings, had various sneaky glasses of wine and reckon all in all that on about 50 of the approximately 180 days I have eaten or drunk something which was not strictly permitted. But by my reckoning I've been very good about 73% if the time. Not quite 80/20, but not far off.

As of today, I have lost 15.02% of my bodyweight: 36.6 lbs (2 stone, 8.6) or 16.6kg to be precise. So I didn't quite make the target I set myself of 3kg a month. But I was bursting out of a 22, now I'm a very comfortable 18 nudging towards an 16.

I still have a long way to go. If I want a BMI of 24, I've got to lose the same again, twice over. But you know what, I reckon I can do it, even if I'm still slogging away when all of you ladies who are starting out where I'm hoping to finish are done.

BIWI · 26/09/2012 14:13

That's really brilliant, MsRinky! And I think it demonstrates perfectly that this WOE is truly sustainable over the longterm - i.e. you can fit real life in and around what you're trying to achieve.

BIWI · 26/09/2012 14:13

Have some Thanks

Netguru · 26/09/2012 14:55

Can I join in?

170lbs
Hoping to get to 147

PortiaPony · 26/09/2012 15:03

Hello all! I'd like to join in please. Lost 2stone through Atkins a few years back and kept it off through adopting low carb as normal eating without too much trouble. Then got pregnant and had a really tough Year1 with baby, so i now need to loose 2stone again :) Bracing myself for that tough first month on low carb so will be great to have the support on this thread. Can't access google docs at work, so will pop myself on the spreadsheet later xx

WillieWaggledagger · 26/09/2012 15:44

shagmund, the loss to 1st October column is for if you want to include your overall loss (not just that for the 10 weeks from monday). was your starting weight 168 on 3rd September? if you'd like me to add that then no problem.

I'll update the formulae in that column on a weekly basis to make sure it reflects the loss to date

nigella i can't believe it's october next week either. i feel like summer never really came, and while you can pretend that it could still be summer in september, you really can't do that in october!

we had a hot water bottle last night

Ilovemyteddy · 26/09/2012 16:10

Well done, MsRinky on a brilliant weight-loss Thanks

I've still got a way to go, so I'm sure I'll be here with you, particularly, as BIWI says, this is a WOE which is sustainable over the longterm.

Onwards and downwards!

Shagmundfreud · 26/09/2012 17:23

Yes please - 168lbs on 3rd September.

Jacaqueen · 26/09/2012 17:49

I am so looking forward to this.

MsRinky that is very impressive. I have a good few lbs still to lose so will be here for a long time.
