Here is the new, shiny thread. Only three weeks or so to go until we swing into really strict mode!

Blush Just realised that last sentence makes us look like a cult Grin

Thegoddessblossom · 10/09/2012 14:14

Nigella I think she said to fry it in a pan to brown it off first then stick in slow cooker?

BIWI · 10/09/2012 14:26

Yep - just season the meat well, with sea salt and black pepper, and then brown in a frying pan, and then into the slow cooker. Don't add anything to it.

Right - People Of Bootcamp. I have just discovered that next weekend, I am to be attending an event where I shall see looooads of people who last saw me 5 years ago pre-kids when I was thin and glam. I am terrified

I've been pottering around easing into the low-carb thing for a week or so but I need a bit of hand-holding to do it properly for ten days.

OhGodohGodohGod.

If I can walk into that room in a pair of my pre-dc skinnies I will be amazed sorted. Or at least to look a bit less matronly.

Reckon I need to shift about 6lb. Is that do-able?

WillieWaggledagger · 10/09/2012 15:09

ewan, yes it is doable, but don't push yourself too far, and with this WOE i find i look much better on the way down than i did on the way up iyswim, so even if you manage, say, 'only' 2lb in that time, chances are you will be less bloated, with more glowy skin and feel so much better in yourself that the number on the scales won't matter

keep going with really clean low carb, focusing on fresh produce and leafy green veg, plenty of buttery fat etc, plenty of water (while keeping an eye on electrolytes) and you'll do as well as you can

Have just made a leeks-in-butter-and-cream sauce and MFP has put the portion of leeks (1 leek) as 14g Carbs!! I'll go and weigh a leek.

BIWI · 10/09/2012 18:58

Nonsense! Leeks are 2.9g carbs per 100g, raw, according to Carblife.

OP posts:
BIWI · 10/09/2012 19:05

Weightlossresources have them as 3.7g carbs per 100g

Nigella, I also have done the breast of lamb in slow cooker. I just googled and think it might have been on you tube but not sure. Easy to do. Cut up an onion, add a cup or so of water, salt and pepper etc (this will be your gravy). Put it the slow cooker for 4 or so hours. Then take the meat out and put it in the oven to brown for half an hour or so. Ooops, should I have put all this on the recipe thread?

Willie, we don't have a microwave and we just blitzed a cauli in the food processor and then chuck it all in a pan, half a cup of water (keep an eye on it), butter, put a lid on the frying pan and let it steam for 20mins or so. Add more butter. Tis easy!

Also how bad is it to be having 2 squares of lindt dark choc every night? It's my only treat. I'm so good the rest of the time. Have not cheated in 8 weeks.

MAGNERS!!!!! drools into second g&t

fufulina · 10/09/2012 19:56

Ewan, it took me about two weeks for my body to adapt to all the water, and now I am thirsty all the time, but don't pee excessively. Jeez. The things I will write on a public forum!

Busy thread today, so love this woe and haring everyone's meals.

Today was legoland with the dds and a good friend and her dd. not a lot of low carb options, in fact none, so had a good breakfast of eggs and mushrooms in anticipation, and a very late lunch/early dinner of salmon salad and leftover coleslaw with the girls when we got home about 5. Too much diet coke is creeping in.

Weekend was something of a disaster foodwise. We had friends over both days for bbqs and although the only food I had that was wrong was a meringue both days with my berries and cream pud, I did drink lots of white wine. Scales were not great today, another creep up to 75.6. I also think I overdid the dairy at the weekend. Cambozola is too delicious.

So back on it. Birthday festivities now over.

Mum arriving tomorrow and she wants me to show her the glories of this woe.

Well done all on continued losses, and excellent holiday maintenance.

hurricanewyn · 10/09/2012 20:11

Just finished dinner now - the flax seed burger buns were a hit with me & DH Grin. They weren't exactly like burger buns, more like granary bread, but very tasty. Quite posh! Sorry princess I didn't see you ask for a photo until I'd scoffed the lot, but I got the idea from the "I breathe I'm hungry" blog - there's photos there & some fab ideas.

The crackers were nice too, but half the batch burned, so could've been nicer. Was nice to get that crunch with a bit of
cheese though.

I'm on placement tomorrow, so I'm cooking today in preperation - cheese & bacon omlette for breakfast, celeriac mash, creamed leeks & roast chicken for dinner.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/09/2012 20:16

BIWI love, where's the list we had of all the veggies and their carb content?

Am excessively thirsty here Wine

Obv that's a joke.

I'm on the gin Grin

Thanks hurricane for the feedback on the flaxseed burger - I find most of her recipes to be pretty tasty and will definely give this a go soon.

NigellasGuest · 10/09/2012 21:03

Thank you everyone re. cooking that lamb!
planning to do that sometime this week.
Tomorrow it's stuffed marrow.......

FatOnTheInside · 10/09/2012 21:25

Does anyone know how long you can stay in ketosis for without harm to your body? I had a bit of a wobble when I realised ketostix were designed so people could avoid ketosis, not the other way round.

Thegoddessblossom · 10/09/2012 21:52

Ha ha deirdre in corrie has cooked her famous stuffed marrow this evening. It looked pretty gross hope ure's is better! Grin

Very lazy tea of salad, coleslaw, salami, cheese, mushrooms and cucumber, plus a coffee with cream.

Have all the makings of the IPD moussaka minus the lamb mince so if I get a chance to get some tomorrow will be trying that for tea.

Will also be making This for ds2's b'day cake and obviously not eating any.

BIWI · 10/09/2012 22:00

FatOnTheInside - ketosis isn't dangerous for your body. However, it is often mistaken for ketoacidosis, which is dangerous
