Throwing new fuel on the Bootcamp Camp Fire

Here is the new, shiny thread. Only three weeks or so to go until we swing into really strict mode!

Back to bootcamp today. Had the most hideously carby weekend - it was beyond my control, so I just soaked it up. Fasted yesterday and went on a massively long 14km run - damage limitation. The scales are not looking nice, but hopefully they'll be a little kinder by the end of the week.

I would like to continue bootcamping but I don't want to do the hardcore lbd bootcamp, is everyone going hardcore or are some still sliding along with bootcamp light?

BIWI · 18/09/2012 08:36

I'm sliding along with Bootcamp Light at the moment, - or rather a sort of hybrid, I suppose. I'm mainly Bootcamp during the week, but Bootcamp Light at the weekend - i.e. alcohol and nuts feature at the weekend.

I'm trying to do a couple of days fasting, but won't be able to fit them in this week. And I'm off to my dad's on Thursday until Saturday, which will make the whole low carb thing a bit difficult. I have a long-standing problem with my SIL (who is lovely, I should say), because she thinks low carb is terribly faddy and gets very cross about it - and I have always ended up capitulating before, and eating too many carbs. I really, really don't want that to happen this weekend, but I also don't want to rock the boat!

BIWI · 18/09/2012 08:36

Sorry, that was a bit long-winded and me me me! My aim is to be mainly Bootcamp Light until we start LBD Bootcamp. I would love to get the next half stone off by Christmas if I could.

Morning all.
goddess it could well be the dairy. I have gained the next day after having a dairy heavy day or evening.

Happy birthday for yesterday sybil

Breakfast today was 3 boiled eggs chopped with 2 tsp coconut oil, butter and boursin plus about 6 olives.

I seem to be addicted to olives. Can you eat too many of them on this woe?

NigellasGuest · 18/09/2012 09:49

Sybil belated happy birthday!

Sharon I've also given in to emotional eating over the past few days. Mine could be TOM related - [that's the only thing I can think of. I need to get a grip]. Hope you're feeling better.

I need to make a bit more effort. I have been doing (sporadically) the exercises Dr Briffa lays out in his books. This takes precisely 12 minutes so not long! I have weights & stuff. But somehow this has fallen by the wayside. I see BIWI and MrsHP are doing/thinking of doing Zumba. I really envy you - I could never do such a thing - in any kind of class I'm always the one at the back doing everything in the opposite direction to everybody else a bit like Mr Bean Blush
I've been walking up all escalators on the tube which I think can't hurt.

Is it unfeasible to aim to lose a stone by Christmas? If I do the LBD pathway to success? Or am I being unrealistic and doomed to failure? I'm not on a downer oh no

BIWI · 18/09/2012 10:00

If you do LBD properly, you ought to be able to lose at least half a stone; that's less than a pound a week.

Best advice, IMO, is to go in with a very realistic expectation. Yes, you could lose 2lbs a week, so making it almost 1.5 stones, but life isn't like that - things will happen in that 10 week period that will throw you off course. And because you've been doing this for a while, unless you suddenly get really, really strict, the rate of loss isn't suddenly going to ramp up.

Don't be down though! You've done really well. LBD will be a kick up the arse and should really help you out.

And remember that exercise isn't the be all and end all in terms of weight loss. Get back into your 12 minute routine - or go out for a 20 minute walk every day.

(And there's nothing to say I won't be the one at the back of the Zumba class doing everything wrong either! Grin)

Thanks vnmum. Will see what the scales say tomorrow.

TML I'm pretty much bootcamp light all the time, ie I eat nuts and have alcohol but I don't eat any fruit at all. To be quite honest with you i 'm not quite sure why I' m not 8 stone!!! Particularly with all the exercise. I genuinely think I am just at the weight I am supposed to be. I don't think I would lose anymore weight unless I never ever drank, never ever ate a single nut. And I'm just not prepared to live like that.

Badvoc · 18/09/2012 10:11

Hello all.
Am down to 76 kgs now from nearly 80kgs 2 months ago.
Am not losing loads but in the other hand what I am losing is fat...clothes and undies already loose.
Will be naughty on sat as its my sons 4th b day and I what cake!

HumphreyCobbler · 18/09/2012 10:47

Thegoddessblossom - I SO know what you mean about not being eight stone. Apart from the odd day (like the food festival) where I do a planned cheat I stick to the rules all the time. Hardly any alcohol, no fruit, no nuts. This is why I don't weigh myself, it would be too depressing.

I am planning to cut out dairy on bookcamp, so maybe this will speed things up a bit.

TellMeLater · 18/09/2012 10:56

BIWI both my sils have go quite annoyed by dh and I low carbing, to the point where we were attacked for dinner choices when we ate out, it really winds me up that people think they have the right to comment on what you eat when they are not even cooking for you. Completely different reaction from my family, my dad was so chuffed with our weightloss- kept telling people how amazing and healthy we looked. Sil just kept going on about how antisocial we were being by not eating cake! She sounded ridiculous.

goddess I have chopped the nuts from my diet - I could not control my intake, mind you I think my total yoghurt habit is probably more destructive. I have recently obtained some Stevia extract - brand name Nunaturals - i got it from ebay, but amazon also sell it. Unlike others I have tried, this one does not have a funny after taste. Am going to attempt to make a proper custard with it this evening and if that works I may even make an ice cream.

BIWI · 18/09/2012 11:00

TML - I wouldn't mind, but my SIL is massively over-weight herself. We're talking at least size 20, I think. Oh, and she's a qualified WW leader ... Hmm

They haven't seen me since I lost all this weight, so I'm going to be interested to see if any comments are made. My dad knows, and is very pleased for me, but he is absolutely clueless re food!

Lovely morning here today is I took DS to school then went for an hours walk.

Scales are a pound down so back into the 12 stone bracket yet again.

I think in order to lose a significant amount of weight I will need to be really strict. Over the past few months I have been mostly boot camp light but that has only been good enough to maintain my 2 stone loss. I have a theory, well more a hunch really, that in order to lose weight I either have to keep my carbs really low or keep an eye on the calories.

So over the next few weeks I am going to:

DRINK MORE WATER
DRINK LESS ALCOHOL
LIMIT DAIRY, NUTS, PROCESSED FOOD
MONITOR VEG/SALAD

That should get me into the swing of things. Then I will cut out the alcohol and nuts during LBD Bootcamp.
I do not want to be too strict or set too many rules but I do want to lose at least another 2 stone.

I am feeling really positive at the moment. I started Bootcamp back in April and lost 2 stone in 11weeks. I then went on holiday for two weeks, gained a few pounds, lost them, then fluctuated up and down by a couple of pounds over the rest of the summer. Now on the one hand I have not lost any weight for 2 months and that is not good. On the other hand I have managed to maintain a 2 stone weight loss over a very busy summer and that is a small miracle. Although I do not feel that I have been off plan, it feels fantastic not to be starting at square one again. I just need to tweak things a little to get the weight loss started again.

WillieWaggledagger · 18/09/2012 11:10

the thing i've found though with this woe, is that even if you don't meet your 'goal', you still look and feel better (and slimmer) at whatever weight you are on the way down, than you did at that weight on the way up iyswim

happy belated birthday sybil!

NigellasGuest · 18/09/2012 11:54

Thanks BIWI Thanks
You're right - I will keep realistic. At the same time as giving myself a kick up the arse! half a stone by Christmas would be fantastic. I will tell myself I'm aiming for a stone - if I aim high I might surprise myself.
Good luck with sorting out a zumba class!

captainmummy · 18/09/2012 12:01

Think i'm getting obsessed - just painted my bedroom. It's now 1 wall of raspberry, and cream on the others.

Must be nearly lunchtime!

teaandthorazine · 18/09/2012 12:58

Sharon - Sad I've also given into the spectre of sad eating over the last few days. Have felt v over-emotional for some reason (not TOTM!), work has been hard, haven't seen much of ds (who is poorly) because of said work, etc etc. Work is mad (worked 20 hours at the weekend, then got called out at 3am this morning, just got home, stressful call-out, have interview tomorrow and am completely unprepared). And last night we did the first of the Big School open evenings which secretly I think we both found a bit overwhelming. Guilt, guilt and more guilt...

On the bright side I got an A in the hideous 7000-word assignment for my MSc that had me tearing my hair out a couple of months ago!

So... what I'm trying to say is that I have eaten CRAP for the last 4 days. Utter crap. But atm I feel like I'm playing catch-up with my own life...

vnmum · 18/09/2012 13:00

I read more into that whole30 thing. It does seem to be very similar to bootcamp but I'm not sure I could do it as strict as they recommend. I mean, having to clarify your butter etc and on the meal planner it also states what portion sizes of fat and protein you should have each meal. That is something I don't want to get back into, counting stuff, I just want to enjoy my food without any issues clouding or influencing my choices. I saw an advert for WW on the TV earlier and I just thought to myself that I couldn't go back to counting points and worrying if I was over my points when eating out. Life is too short for all that Smile.

Slightly off topic but, BIWI How is your cat?(saw on twitter)

vnmum · 18/09/2012 13:04

Well done Tea on the A.
Sometimes life throws us a Curve ball and we have to ride it until we can put it down Smile

halfthesize · 18/09/2012 13:33

Afternoon all and well done on some great lossesGrin

Happy birthday for yesterday SybilThanks

Sharon sorry your day was so rubbish.

Had 3 boiled eggs for brunch and still hungry so about to get some salad.

BIWI · 18/09/2012 13:39

vnmum - much better thanks! Don't know what the problem was, but he's back to his normal self now.

OP posts:
Thegoddessblossom · 18/09/2012 15:30

Well lunch ended up being a dukan meal from POD - chicken, prawns, a boiled egg and smoked salmon - all very delicious but TINY and £5.95!!!!!!

hurricanewyn · 18/09/2012 17:17

Afternoon all, & happy belated birthday sybil.
I forgot to weigh yesterday, but did this morning & updated the spreadsheet - another 2lb off, so I'm pleased with that.
Good day today - skipped breakfast as I wasn't hungry, then met a friend for lunch and had a salad with chicken skewers and piri piri sauce. For dinner I had BIWI's slowcooked ginger pork with shredded cabbage - it was delicious and there's loads left for tomorrow!
Not much fat there though, so I need to get some into me now.

queribus · 18/09/2012 17:22

Arse! Just eaten too many nuts. Must avoid from now on as I can't stop eating them.

Dinner - chicken, mushrooms and courgettes with creme fraiche

Any ideas for breakfast other than eggs or greek yoghurt?

BIWI · 18/09/2012 18:08

Ham or smoked salmon, rolled around cream cheese with black pepper
Bacon and mushrooms
(Low carb) sausages and mushrooms

or - leftovers from dinner the night before. Breakfast doesn't have to be a special meal with specific 'breakfast' foods!

OP posts:
Thegoddessblossom · 18/09/2012 18:30

well I have just had a baby bel despite professing to be off dairy today. So that is greek yog and some cheese so far - bloody starving after my puny lunch but the pork is cooking and smelling diviine so must resist the nuts! (ooer missus). Have already had 2 slices of salami with celery.

I stand at the fridge (and always at this time of night, my picky time) and the options are the above, ham, or nuts. no point boiling an egg - must hard boil some in readiness for just this issue.
